I'm sorry but I can NEVER give credit to Yasuo mains...

GreyfellD··70 votes·16,434 views

I know people are going to hate me for this but I've played him and I've seen him played and his kit is just so bloody easy.

I'm sorry if I offend Yasuo mains but it really is... he doesn't need to worry about mana, he gets a free shield just for WALKING. He has no variation in his build so you build the same thing every game and he has near infinite mobility when minions are in lane (which is constantly). He has an ability that blocks other champions ultimates.

HOW is this champion hard exactly? Can somebody please explain this to me because I just don't see it. I can't understand why people say he's "high skill" because he has NO MANA. He can spam his abilities, with minimal cooldown all day and not suffer any consequences and his Q has a deceptively long range as well.

Trashuo mains think he's hard because they miss their only skillshot

And still get the kill because reasons.

I've seen a guy who was high as fuck while playing Yasuo. And yet he still got more kills than his team. So whenever a Yasuo main tell me how hard it is to be good at Yasuo, I laugh in their face.

GayFluffyUnicorn4 votes

Depends on the state of yasuo. Right now he is batshit broken. I've played numerous times in flex and normals against yasuo the last few days even gold yasuos who miss half their Qs (in melee range btw, not the tornado) and still win every trade by pure statchecking is actually outrageous. The massive buffs he received don't help either in the later phases were he got 30% AD on crit.

Play him and I will guarantee you will feed. That high as fuck Yasuo is an objectively better player than you.

I would have inserted the "found a Yasuo main joke" but this is not the case. Dying to Brand and Annie as Yasuo in URF doesn't mean that he is hard to play because nobody can survive the apocalypse that is Brand + Annie in URF.

Nevrankroaton15 votes

People saying "I know I will get hate" about a champion that always get insulted and hated in "Circle jerk whiny baby" land XD

I don't think he is hard in term of gameplay, I feel it is more that his kit allow a freedom/creativity that many many many people don't use fully. Yasuo has so much possibility and many people just have a very limited view on what to do when they play him.

AR URF11 votes

According to your match history you don't play him at all. In fact all the champs you play can be played by bronze players effectively. How are you so biased?

Lord Malpercio9 votes

Yasuo arguably does have a very high skill cap. However, you only have to be a little aware of the basic games mechanics to use him effectively. It's like Zed, easy to get the grasp of, but with a lot of mechanical depth.

Unfortunately this does result in them coming off as easy to play, despite the higher end of their gameplay. A really good yasuo is infinitely scarier than a moderately decent one.

Do you remember 37% WR release Yasuo?

deadlychuck2 votes

And even then he was one of the most irritating champions to lane/play against. The design of the champion is the problem, not his power. You can't make a champion which never loses the fight initiative fun to play against.

Stars Shaper8 votes

The issue with Yasuo is more about ppl refusing to counterplay him because it would mean to adapt your playstyle to the enemy pick... Which is the very definition of counterplay to begin with!

I've played as and against Yasuo and if you know what he does and keep an eye on him as you would do for Fiora, Trynda, Yi or any other carry then it all comes down to mechanical skill because every1 has the tools to face Yasuo and some can litterally walk over him.

deadlychuck6 votes

The problem is that Yasuo always has the initiative. This is actually a problem that a lot of riot's champions over the past 3 years or so have, where their kit designs mechanically behave as counterplay to champions, while other champions are forced to invest in counterplay items to have a chance against the champion.

Imagine if you're in a fist fight, and you're only allowed to move sideways and backwards. That's what it feels like to play against a Yasuo, yes you can win, but even when ahead you're forced to be on the back foot. You can only play around him, while it's almost impossible for a Yasuo to lose the initiative and leading pressure in the fight. It's simply terrible design.

AirKingNeo7 votes

and we're still insulting Yasuo players.

Why?

saltran2 votes

Because reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, Boards never change

alagore5 votes

Because he's feels awful to play against and suffers from Shaco Syndrome.

I don't enjoy spending laning phase dodging his 3rd Q every 9 seconds and staying 500 units away from him and my minions at all times, because he'll dash on me, auto or Q me once and dash away, winning trade based solely on his shield, with limited options to retaliate for me.

I hate how I can spend laning phase thrashing him, smashing him into the ground, but as long as he has one person on his team with an AoE knockup, he will still be useful and the moment he hits two items he will be relevant again.

I don't like that if I play an ADC, I can be nullified by a single basic ability with an 18 second cooldown late game and a 4 second duration, which eventually covers half a lane.

I don't enjoy feeling like I need to be 12/0 before _I _ am the one who has the initiative, before I am the one who needs to be respected.

I don't ban Yasuo because he's good. I ban him because He makes me hate the game when I'm playing against him. I'm sure someone will go "ur silver get gud" but I honestly don't give a shit. I play games to have fun, and playing against Yasuo is the antithesis of me having fun.

Pika Fox6 votes

He is a melee champion heavily incentivized to build relatively squishy early, his play pattern is fairly mechanically intensive and requires you learning how to manage your Q stacks, minion waves and minion positioning for E, and how to effectively use windwall, your only real defensive ability.

He is one of the harder champions to actually play in the game as a result. The claim of "lol free shield for just walking" is severely underplaying even the shield, which reinforces E uses to engage, disengage, dodge skillshots etc.

I can see when people call yasuo a "high skill-ceiling" champion. because, yeah; he has the potential for some pretty fucking sick outplays when you really know this game and how its mechanics function...

...but he also has an abysmally fucking low skill floor. like, obnoxiously low. I mean for christs sake his kill pattern is spamming Q at you until he gets a free knockup and... theres the kill! I hate it. fighting the fucker gives me a brain aneurysm.

think ive figure out the core of why Yasuo is so Annoying, its his passive shield and ability to just sit on your face and just 2X Q you then knock you up leaving little room to react. Riot has stated that it can be unhealthy for melee champions to ONLY be about getting on a target and sticking to them no matter what to deal damage, thats why recent melee champions have been given ways to encourage them to his at a distance. Yasuo can and will stick as close as he can to a target to damage them, and his 3rd Q, in addition to E affords him the stickiness he needs. If his 3rd Q encouraged him to move back to get the most out of it it would offer opponents a chance to breathe against the slew of not only damage but CC and defense that he can put up.

Ive come up with some appropriate changes

Yasuo: 3rd Q only knocks up a little or not at all at close range and more at max range. R deals damage based on the amount of time the targets have spent in the air. Basically the higher they get knocked up the more damage it deals. Yay more skill!

They could also put the 3rd Q on its own CD, if it misses an enemy champ it goes on a longer CD.

Another reason Yasuo feels unfair IS the amount of defense he has for the damage he can put out. His passive shield is especially annoying for a few reasons, unlike other champions he doesn't have to cast abilities (that normally cost something) or hit enemy champion to charge it, he just has to move which can be considered uninteractive since the opponent doesn't get to do anything about it. Also it doesn't feel skillful for the Yasuo player to get the shield, all he has to do is move around, now sure you can move around alot to charge it at the last second IF there are enough units near by...but does is moving around using E or right clicking REALLY all that skillful? Not only that but if a Good Yasuo player IS moving around using E or moving they can ALSO use that to dodge skillshots/avoid enemies, and then they have a shield that they can use to tank the next ability or AA, and its passive so Yasuo ALWAYS gets to charge it, and theres NO CD. And once its up it stays. AND tower shots don't even make it go away, not saying the shield should block a tower shot, but its weird that Tower shots dont just destroy the shield. Other passive shields are just consumed based on the damage dealt to them and dont stick around once destroyed.

his passive, W, ult to refresh passive (and keep him out of tower range, this is TOO much safety for all the damage he can dish out, he gets to play like some sort of situational tank)

his passive should should just be deleted instead Rework W so it has a longer CD but it gets reduced by moving and change it so it acts more like a directional spell shield (its up for 0.75 sec and then its gone).

less annoying + a bit more skill = less skilled people playing Yasuo + less hate

The Goodest Boy2 votes

I think your thesis is solid, your statement on why Yasuo's kill pattern is so annoying is very true and well put. (In fact, when you mentioned the bit about melee positioning I thought to myself "then the solution there would be to make his Q knockup based on distance" and then you said it! haha) and you're absolutely right about him having far too many low-interactivity defensive options. I like your recommended changes to W as well.

I think another excellent change for Yasuo would be to remove the ability to piggy back off of allied CC with his R; that would allow major buffs to his kit and his R especially.

And I think it needs to be said that, in the end; because of Yasuo's massive popularity and the money they make off of fanboys buying skins, it's unlikely Riot ever gives him the nerfs he deserves :( it sucks but thats how they think.

Did u know that initially Riot wanted make Yasuo's W a short horizontal slash that would negate what it intercepted? Bascially it was a short duration directional spellshield/shield. But they didn't have the tech to make it work how they wanted so they developed the Windwall instead. Betcha u want them to try for that "Wind Cut" again now don't ya?

I think another excellent change for Yasuo would be to remove the ability to piggy back off of allied CC with his R; that would allow major buffs to his kit and his R especially.

No i think its unique and allows for some fun teamwork and plays, but the mechanic addition (R gaining or losing dmg based on knock up height/time) that I suggested would also effect allied knock ups so depending on the ally, the Yasuo player may NOT want to just ult on any allied knock up because it may not be that high. Another way increase the incentive for Yasuo players to use the own knock up is to code the 3rd Q to have the one of the highest knock ups at max range. Now it doesn't NEED to actually have a longer/higher knock up, but his R can just treat it like that's the case (so Yasuo doesn't get unnecessary additional utility). This encourages Yasuo players to use their own knock up skillfull at max range to max their dmg output. This way you won't have Yasuo players using their ult off Vel'koz E's, they could but the dmg would be MUCH lower.

And I think it needs to be said that, in the end; because of Yasuo's massive popularity and the money they make off of fanboys buying skins, it's unlikely Riot ever gives him the nerfs he deserves :( it sucks but thats how they think.

idk maybe just wait for leadership to change or for some cataclysm to happen, or for player base to start dropping.

The Goodest Boy2 votes

that W thing sounds super cool, and...idk... actually skillful? I'd much prefer that (or some variation of it) to be honest.

also youre right about your proposed R changes. I like the idea of actually choosing the right time to ult instead of slamming the R key every 30 seconds for a free wombo. perhaps you could give the 3rd Q some special interaction like "if an enemy is hit by a max distance Q, your ultimate deals maximum damage" in order to give him damage without stuffing him full of utility.

also here's hoping for that cataclysm you mentioned

yeah then if an ally has a really big knock up its like the perfect pass in football for Yasuo to get the touch down with, and on either side it feels more fair because some more planning had to go into it.

Uhhh, what? A champion being easy has nothing to do with how high they can take you up the ladder. Garen is undoubtedly easier than Yasuo, but you can't get to Challenger with him either.

Garen is easy to play and easy to master.

OP and a lot of people here are implying that Yasuo is a brain dead champion IS which half true for being easy to play but they don realise his hard to master, which validates my point that you actually have to give credit to the Yasuo if his outplayed you.

High damage and forgiving kit makes it harder to appreciate since you never know if it was the champ or the user. With all the dashes it's difficult to land something against him while he gets an aoe knockup , shield and wind wall and blink . Pair this with conqueror after that

I think Ekko has the spot for the most forgiving kit.

Since Yasuo has pretty hard penalties #For example

  • His AA do 10% reduced critical damage and his Steel Tempest has another 15% added on top of 10%.

  • His base MR is the second lowest in the game with the lowest scaling.

#That's the trade off for getting a shield that is gone by a ranged spit that he only get by moving around for a few seconds.

  • Wind Wall is nof affected by Cool-Down reductions.

#His kit is not forgiving at all if the player is against a player that isn't high.

  • If you mess up Wind Wall, thats it, you lost your best defence for the next 26 seconds (Almost half a minute).

  • If you got hit while dashing, you have two to no option of going back except for

  • #1 hitting the enemy player with a lost trade

#or

  • #2 just walking back for taking less damage than the previous option.

Well then by your own logic, Then take Garen to challenger, come back and rub your success in these people’s faces.

All the post is implying that he’s not hard to play. Aka his skill floor is low, and honestly he’s right. Manaless, free shield, linear build, decent range (especially for a melee champ, good mobility, an Ult that can’t miss, etc... he’s not saying Yasuo’s easy to master, just easy to play.

"Not having mana" hardly means the champion is easy. At least, not by itself.

And neither does having a shield from walking.

Yasuo is hard because his ability to survive after laning phase is entirely dependent on the player's skill. You're a squishy melee. Your shield honestly isn't enough to keep you alive by itself.

Sure, you hit stat-check status come item 5 or 6, but mid-late game, you're just a burden on the team unless you got crazily fed.

Play several games with him. Play a dozen. Or at least play him into a team that knows what they're doing. Then come back and say whether or not you truly believe he's easy.

...I will say he is fairly easier than normal right now, but that's just because nearly every diver/skirmisher is broken right now. But, regardless, one game is never enough to gauge the skill requirements of a champion.

Here's an idea that ever yasuo player is going to hate, because i raises his skill floor by about 9 miles. How about we remove his basically point and click knock up? You know. that annoying ass e> charged q combo bs that lets him knock anyone up with little to no counterplay or interaction. That and remove the armor pen from his kit and replace it with flat ad. (note, this chimp of a champ can get 85% armor pen now, before conqueror)

The shield is fine, it can be poked off. the windwall is fine, its cooldown is long af. The mobility should not be unconditional but eh whatever. The tornado is fine when its not point a click -.-. the issue comes when you can use his low cd e and low cd q together with no real drawback being resource less.

actually his kit needs lots of skill for being used at its best, but since it got balanced around people trying to dive at lvl 3 even if you don't you still win for reasons

thanks to all the greedy yasuos playing vs him is literally like peeling an onion...

unless you don't hard counter him if you want to engage him you have to :

  1. bait his windwall
  2. bait his passive shield
  3. make sure he doesn't have a stacked Q
  4. make sure there is no minion wave so he can't dash around

and THEN you can try to fight him, assuming he didn't close his defensive items so he can't facetank your damage

quite a list of things to check off JUST to even consider interacting with him, with most other champs you only have to worry about ONE defensive ability even in TANKS, but Yas has TWO, and not to mention you already talked about him facetanking which is kinda BS for the damage he can output WHILE face tanking and hes NOT supposed to be a drain tank.e

Because apparently requiring more than 3 inputs is hard.

Ryze on Roids1 votes

Yasuo is hard mostly because he doesn't have a great laning phase. He also has a lot of outplay potential, but is also vulnerable to ganks without his E. His playstyle is either to get fed or feed, since he's very squishy. In teamfights you have to weave around the millions of CC abilities enemies have because you die instantly without something like QSS. Yes, he may get 100% crit easily, but with new crit changes he also gets them later than usual. He is hard in his own ways, but easy in other aspects.

So is Yasuo hard? Yes, he is difficult in a general stance. But is he the hardest in League? No, since champions like Zed or Azir are more mechanically difficult to just learn.
