As a Plat 4 teemo main last season I received my far share of flame in champ select. However I noticed that this is much more of a problem in lower elos. I all but forgot about it until the start of the new season and after going 6/4 in placements I got Silver 1 and as I proceeded to play games the wave of "omg we have a teemo gg" came flooding back. Now I understand if you have 3 supports and no ADC how champ picks could make you mad but in Bronze Silver and low Gold champ picks mean next to nothing. With good macro play and map awareness you can play AP Tryndamere and win games.

All it takes is one bad game to scar a player in low elo that they never want to see that champion again. You're not allowed to play Teemo because someone had a bad Teemo in the last game.
