Ranged carries have 80 on average.
Hell, Jax, a champion who's base armor was nerfed to really low levels for a melee champ has 78, AND he gets way better defensive steroids than trundle
Droogzy1 votesGoing to assume that is a result of compensation for his ultimate, which can make him insane tanky if he uses it on an opposing tank. Jax's defensive steroid is consistent no matter when he uses it, but Trundle's scales with his choice of target he uses it on, not really a solid comparison.

Jax's bonus armor also scales with 50% of his bonus AD, meaning its very easy to get 120 armor on jax's ultimate.
Trundle won't get that much unless he ults a tank with 300+ armor, and Jax gets the armor for the whole duration, trundle's has to ramp up

Variks the Loyal1 votesI think it's because, with his passive, his amount of jungle sustain would be so high, that clearing the jungle would actually heal him up. So he could gank, tank a few tower shots, get a Flash, go clear some camps to heal, and come right back. With his already pretty good clear speed, he would never have to recall except to buy.
EDIT: Not that I don't think Trundle doesn't need buffs. He does. But more armor might not be the way to buff him.
