Warnings to new players.

I'm going to be very critical in this, down vote if you must.

  1. Certain champions are useless. So, don't play as them. So, here's what you should buy first. Get MasterYi so you can hold top lane in the AI games. You will never lose. Keep him and save up for LeeSin and Zed. You will now never need another top lane champion. Now, also get Annie for middle lane. Practice with those stuns. Get Sona next as your first support champion. Learn how to use the heal above all else first. Next, get Nunu as a support if Sona gets banned. He will also be a great jungle so remember that. Now, lastly, save up for Kalista and you now have all the champions you need for any lane until level 30.

  2. You will more than likely have a person who has a second or third account and is now playing with you. Remember, if they ever start saying that they are "experienced" "know what they're doing" or say that they have a smurf (a fake account) then be patient and if they try to take charge, there is a mute button you can click to silence them. You may want to even use it after level 30.

  3. Do not buy any Runes yet. Wait until you can get teir 3 Runes as the others are just stupid and waist you're IP you took so long to earn. Once you are able to get the teir 3, look for runes that are similar and try to buy up to 9 of each for each color. Look for certain ones that help you when playing as a specific champion (like some will help with speed, others with attack damage, etc).

  4. When going into top lane, know that you may not get much help after you reach level 30. Be careful. You can always ask for help and remember that it is not your fault if you are low in HP, stuck next to your tower, and your under leveled jungle tries to kill the enemy and loses. That was just lack on judgement on their part.

  5. When going into the jungle, remember that it is good to kill monsters, but don't let killing monsters take priority over helping teammates.

  6. When playing mid, always try to avoid the bushes. You are the easiest to be ganked (have enemies sneak up on you and kill you). Try to push your tower and constantly attack it. You will have the easiest time with that, rather than top or bottom.

  7. The ADC is a marksman. You are usually in bottom lane, by popular choice. You must try and use your range to push the lane but since you are squishy and easy to kill, you have a support with you. The support is only there to help you so try not to be too harsh on the support. It's your job to get kills and gain CS (gold). Try not to push too hard but at the same time, don't forget to fight the enemy. Retreat if needed and always stay near the support if you can.

  8. As the support, its your job to make sure the ADC is alive. You must do all you can to give them kills and CS. There are even certain items you as a support are allowed to use. Try and use the one best fit for you, as all benefit the ADC, the one that you like will help you in the future.

  9. This game is meant for fun so don't get sad if you lose. There is always another game. Cursing at teammates only makes them focus on you so try and not start anything. So, just have fun.

  10. The scalings for champions is Perfectly Imbalanced, and for some, you will never be able to win as often as others will allow. The scalings for each champion are somewhat off, as Renekton has stronger abilities than Nasus, yet Nasus has to use mana unlike Renekton; so the thing is chose carefully who you play as.

Edit:

  1. Get the champs you enjoy. You only have 3 refunds so if you buy what someone else tells you to get, and don't like the champ's kit, you're going to have to regrind all the IP.
Rew7112 votes

I wasn't the one who set it up to only give 3 refunds. They should allow refunds to IP with no limits, honestly.

RogueWill3 votes

Then I would refund champions I don'r play and get the new just release champions. Is bad for business.

Rew7111 votes

Honestly, I didn't want to even have this... That first one was suppose to be a joke/reality check on how often and easy those champions are/were played and how easy they are to use and learn. Geez. Sorry for making the community hate me for my stupidity. Because I guess that's all I will ever amount to in life.

Mathbalnase1 votes

Because there are 'products' that can be 'purchased' with either IP or RP, making IP more readily available (such as by increasing gains or by allowing unlimited IP refunds), or more valuable (such as by reducing IP costs), reduces the incentive to buy RP, and thus might negatively impact Riot's earnings.

Rew7111 votes

This is for champions, right? Like, yes people buy champions with IP, but also buy RP items as well. It does not negate someone from buying with RP. There are also risks to returning a champion, as you will have to re-buy it later. This also makes it easier and simpler to find the champions you'd like to have and play as. Sure, Free Champ Rotation has this in a sense for free, but to own the champion is something different. I don't want to waist a refund, if I can, on a champion I bought with IP. And, even if IP was more available, wouldn't that be better for the new way to buy Runes?

Mathbalnase1 votes

I offer to sell you 3 products: Gum, Chocolate, and Chips

But I'm a curiously particular merchant, and will only accept bus tickets in exchange for the Gum, and will only accept subway tokens in exchange for the Chips. I'll accept either in exchange for the Chocolate.

You only have enough of either 'currency' for one purchase, but want all three.

You're considering grabbing some more subway tokens when I decide to allow you to return the Ice Cream you bought yesterday (paying bus tickets) in exchange of a full refund.

You now have enough 'currency' for all of the purchases you want to make, and no longer need to buy more subway tokens.

Uh, this was nicely thought out, but... wouldn't it had been better put like this?

(We are now 5 years old)

I have 3 baseball cards that I will sell 5¢ each. You already bought 1 yesterday and want to return it for another baseball card since you don't have another 5¢ on you.

You then realize that you want 1 more, but don't have the money.

I allow you to do small tasks that give you 2¢ each time you finish. You then earn a total of 6¢ and buy another card, but want to return the one prior for the last one you've never seen.

Later, I now have a new baseball card myself, that you want. I tell you that you are now out of refunds and cannot have the baseball card unless earned and that this one will be worth 10¢ since it is new. You do not want to return your cards because you just earned them, but really want the new card as well.

That's probably a better scenario...

Its sad how people cannot pick the little bit of sarcasm out of a big pile of wisdom. Nice post, good lols, great information for newbies.

well that is kinda true

but at the same time there is a conflict riots ballance lately i enjoyed azir as fk literaly jizzing just becuase i played him , he got gutted and the fun withered since i couldnt realy play the game with him so instead of fighting my opponents i fought my range

thats why i agre with ops point but not with the suggestions

he should just say that champions below for instance 48% winrate are those who riot owerly nerfed thus you shouldnt consider them as it takes far much more skill to effectively use them

if champions are worth playing then pick what you like and you think you will enjoy

"Are you a new player? Buy Kalista!" -OP

Knight SoIaire 1 votes

yeah that kinda failed

but his point is that in the process of "ballancing" some champions get too "ballanced" and thus you shouldnt play them since you will lose

1). Only time you should take a recommendation for a champ (as a beginner) is when its a 450 champ, because they are cheap and usually easy to learn. After that, get whatever you want and only take recommendations under consideration. But I recommend trying a champ from the free-rotation before you buy, to see if you prefer melee or ranged. (beginners may find it hard to do Melee, at least I did.) ALWAYS look at the "Champion Spotlight" before you buy a champion. The champion spotlight is a good way to understand what the kit is like. You should then watch a few matches just to understand what the gameplay is like. After this, if you are still doubting whether or not you like the champ, look at others that interest you until you find a good one. 2). Someone will always try to take charge in a match, otherwise everyone is just running around like chickens with-out a head. Its when they start flaming that everyone is a noob for not following their plan that you use the mute button. 3). Runes help regardless of the tier. For lower levels, T2 runes are fine. Just don't waste all of your IP on runes until you get T3, and only buy lower tier runes when you can/want to. 4). This guy is right, don't blame yourself for a jungler's mistake. If a jungler is not ready to gank, try not pinging him/her unless you really need him/her. Otherwise, ask for the mid if he/she isn't currently pushing/holding. 5). Kill monsters until you have at least 6 lvls for your ult. Remember to get a leash for your first kill. 6). Again he is right, you are the easiest to gank. Just ward properly, or ask the jung to ward river. 7). Treat your support like a combat-partner. They are not meant to get kills (they can, but their goal is to give you kills), and will more than likely die a lot as the enemy ADC usually targets them to weaken you. 8). He is right. 9). This game IS meant to be fun, but when you play ranked matches don't be the person only in the game to have "fun", if you want to have fun, go play Normal. But either way, don't be put down if you lose. Its not that big of a deal. 10). I guess he is right? I don't know much about the balancing system.

Everybody has their own playstyles and/or champions that just click with them. I loved Azir 's aesthetic and theme when he first came out. Adored it. However, I was also very bad at Azir (and still am, even after all the bug fixes.) He didn't meet my initial gameplay expectations, and I never really got a comfortable handle on his mechanics.

The polar opposite of that was Nami . I ignored the Tide Caller for a long while. Just wasn't sold on the fishy support. But when I picked her up on a free week, she just clicked. Her kit made sense to me. I intuitively understood how I should be using her, and in turn I enjoyed her a lot more than I thought I would!

And finally, some champions require you to have more experience with the game before you can make them work. For example, Just starting out I wasn't a huge fan of Evelynn . She was squishy, hard to use, and never seemed to do enough damage. I also wasn't a big fan of her theme. But I kept my eye on her. Come Season 5, I picked her up again. People always told me you should max Q for maximum wave clear and build pure AP or AD Bruiser. I wasn't sold on that idea.

My experience with the game told me that her E--which has a massive AS boost on it--would be excellent for an on-hit build. Her AD scalings hinted that pure AD would be beneficial. But as an assassin, she needs some type of "force multiplier." Crit only works too well. So I formulated an AD Crit build with item 3718 at its core, and it has worked for me ever since.

TL;DR: Just because it works for you, doesn't mean it works for others. Let people find out what works for them the best!

As a relatively new player I disagree with about half of what you posted, especially your first comment about what champs to get. Everyone should look to get champs they find interesting and think would be fun to play rather than just a champ because someone says that champ is "OP" or even just "good."

Your argument that someone should just "mute a smurf" is not all that good advice either. Sure some smurfs can be complete jerks, but others are willing to help teach and show a player how they can improve. One thing that no player should ignore is honest advice/criticism. Little things can turn a game, so having someone point out that you had a bit of tunnel vision during a fight and nearly got yourself killed is good and it would be unwise to ignore just because that person was trying to take charge in a game. They knew more and could help.

The only 2 pieces of advice that were good overall were #3 about runes (although I think you needed to give a lot more detail) and #9 about it being a game. The rest is not going to help most new players.

ActuallyArrow1 votes

I just bought Heimerdinger because I thought he would be fun to play, and he was, so I agree. Get a champ you think you will get the most enjoyment out of.

Rew7111 votes

Sigh;

You misunderstood #2. It was if you wanted to, not you have to; most experienced players forget that certain new players are now use to how to buy items. And at the same time, should show patience. One of my friends had to do this during a solo AI match.

I also want to know why you took #1 so offensively. I put Zed and LeeSin there as a joke. But, the best to start out with is MasterYi because of his easy to use abilities. I also know that no new player would honestly listen to #1, so why not instead make jokes about it to have some fun. My first champion was Warwick and he wasn't too fun at first so I saved up for Udyr and he became my main. So, I'm being honest about #1 being stupid. Yet, I must apologize for not adding a disclaimer at the end. So... down vote away.

I'm sorry that my advice for middle, top, bottom, support, and jungle was not to your liking. I just had some insight on what would be good to look out for when in those positions. And honestly, you shouldn't take them lightly.

Now, about #3, it was my friend who is more experienced than I am who told me that advice. He is always in a high teir in ranked (Gold last season and Diamond before that).

mvargus1 votes

Ah, thought it might partly be in fun, but you presented it as serious.

My big issue with #1 was that it came out as "play freelo champs only" which is something I despise. I have the misfortune to have played with a few people who do that and they tend to be terrible teammates. People need to find champs they are comfortable with and play them.

As for the ones you named. I do think that Lee Sin and Zed are bad champions overall, not because they aren't powerful, but because the way the game has changed with buffs/nerfs has made them "toxic" to the health of the game overall. I'm not a fan of Master Yi mostly because he's so easily countered by people who know what he does and he can be a liability in many team comps. Honestly, since I reached level 30 I haven't seen many and the ones I do see often don't do very well. He's a good beginner champ, but unless you want to main him and really learn his combos, you'll be replacing him at level 30 if not before.

Rew7111 votes

Right! That's what I hate as well. Sorry if it sounded too serious.

You forgot an important tip:

In the early game, cs is more important than kills. One kill is almost never worth the risk if you must take one. This is especially true for the adc. If you can towerdive or catch them out relatively safely, then fine. But you die killing the enemy support and the enemy adc kills you, you didn't gain anything and now the enemy adc can recall, buy items, and farm.
