You should tell people if you're not ranked ready

I find this to be the case with junglers often, but the rule applies to any position. If you get a role you don't usually play, you should tell your lobby. While I believe Riot should ID in the lobby anyone who gets filled, in lieu of their responsibility we should be telling each other "Hey, I got mid and I don't really play this position."

It gives everyone the option to either A. swap or B. accept their fate. For me, failure to announce often goes like this:

I get top, their jungle is all but camping my lane, our jungler seems both unaware of the situation, and when alerted, incapable of responding through either counter-ganks, or camping another lane and telling me to hug. Most often they say nothing which I take as an admission of their own failure, but it needs to be said earlier than 3 deaths in.

Whenever I check their match history post-game, I often find no jungle role assigned in the last 20 games.

Again, this is ranked. And I again blame Riot for not incentivizing Normals appropriately so that people have a reason to play Normals, but despite their shortcomings, the community needs to have some integrity and admit when they aren't great at something. If you do care about ranked and climbing, everything should be done to mitigate risk and increase the opportunity to win. That starts in the lobby, and admitting there's a role you're just not great at.

I do agree with this. People should say if they got auto-filled because then you know to expect them not to be the best at the role and work around them. Give them advice, play safe, and hope they also play safe and do their best. Can't really speak for the people who didn't get auto-filled, but aren't that great at the position they want to play though. Like I'll admit that I'm still learning mid, but I only play normals so I'm not really hurting anyone. At the very least I play safe, don't feed, and ping enemy missing if my laner isn't in lane. I'm still trying to get better at CSing so it's hard for me to roam myself, but once I get good at CSing then I'll work on roaming. (As a support main, I didn't have to worry about CS before.)

Yeah, by all means. In Normals, I don't care if you need. I may mutter to myself, "Jesus this guys is awful" but I don't write it in game and I do what I can to both give tips ("Hey man, when you TP to a tower like that, select the minion the tower is attacking") or just play for my own skill-up.

Personally, when i go to Normals I tend to queue up as Fill just to get quicker games and (ideally) give others what they want.

Yeah. I'm trying my best to get better at mid before next season because my friend says it's hard to climb in ranked as support. If I can't seem to get it down by then, I guess I'll just have to play support and hope for the best in my random ADCs. I can't win lane with a bad ADC, but I can usually defend long enough if one of the other lanes can get a lead. Also, solid teleport advice. I rarely take teleport, but I'll keep a mental note of that when I do.

Honestly, that's what has held me back many seasons. People will tell you that you can climb as support, but you can drive with your feet, too. Things I had to learn the hard way:

  1. Support is least good for climbing
  2. Pro guides are probably the best course of action
  3. Some champs carry better than others, play them
