Are splitt item paths a thing?

Looking at the new jungle items I was wondering wether the community does like the idea behind them. Personally, I could see this work great for support items, or even normal items.

This is an example, not a suggestion. It is meant to make this post easier to understand and is not completely thought through. If Zeyphr lost 400g (example number) of it's combination cost and therefore it's base attackspeed removed, however it could be upgraded for (these exact) 400g to either give attackspeed (like it does) or flat AD (so it could be used on AD casters) or maybe increased utility (movementspeed)?

I would consider such upgrades an interesting idea to increase item variety on certain champions. (E.g. above example #3 could be used on Hecarim relatively well, while attackspeed currently feels like a wasted stat on him)

I think the idea behind having a base combined item like the tier 1 jungle items which can change depending on the enchantment upgrades are an interesting spin off to itemization.

It genius in its own right and has merit to work. I kinda wish we can more items that worked like that.

Its even cooler because on the PBE you can switch between them even after you've upgraded them, just in case you want to change it later.
