Drop the cost of Runaan's Hurricane

item 3085

I play Varus quite a bit when I ADC, and as I was speaking to people about him early in my purchase of him, I was told "Yeah, Hurricane can work in some situations, but getting item 3046 with item 3031 & item 3035 is just a more effective combo. For the most part, I've taken that advice unless we were getting slaughtered and I needed Hurricane to hold off waves of minions from our Nexus.

Yesterday I was looking at the two items and I realized that Hurricane is far more expensive with a less beneficial build order than Dancer. I'm aware most players think that Hurricane is a noob trap 90% of the time, but I'm wondering what the rationale is behind the cost disparity with both the end result, and the build order being so one-sided. Unless the thought is "you buy this to prevent Super Minion onslaught."

Anyone know what the reasoning is? If there isn't one, shouldn't we reduce the cost of Hurricane or, at worst, change the build order?

(I have no idea if this is the right board. My apologies if it's not. Nothing jumped out at me for item discussion)

You looked somewhere wrong, Dancer costs 2800, while Runaan costs 2400, maybe you accidentlly switched the values?

You are right that as a lone item Dancer is usually better, but Runaan has an incredible synergy potential with on hit effects.

On Varus for example, you can inflict three champs with blight at once and any of your abbilities can potentially detonate all of them.

The main problem for Hurricane is that it has insane potential(vs 3 targets, it's effectivly 100% more damage, but spreat up upon 3 targets, compared to PDs 30% more damage(30%crit = 30% more dps), thats actually massive).

Just that u do not often get 3 enemy champs beeing hit by it, while PD alaways gives the 30% crit. PD also increases mobillity(like all other as-items for carrys...) and it scales well with IE, increasing dps by 45% instead of 30% if combined with IE.

SO in order to be more viable, it needs to get more reliable. curently it targets 2 random enemy in a 375 aoe around the main target. if that would get changed into an 425aoe around ur main target and ur self, so u can focus a important target while still dealing damage to a TAnk right infront of u. It also would help alot if the secondary targets would prefer champions as long as ur maintarget is a champion aswell. Currently there is a good chance on wasting the secondary damage on minions due to the random targeting.

Another important thing would be adding more on-hit items that synergies with Hurricane, especially magical on-hit like good old madrets bloodrazor. Currently WIts End is the only pure magic on-hit item. Nashors is kind off, but it needs ap to realy become impactfull and also grants ap, so it is usless for champions that don't scale well with ap.

At last, I'd like to see some ms on it to get it in line with other as-options.

What about item 3153 ?

i was speaking of magical on-hit. Ruined King works nice with Hurricane, but it doesn't synergies with other on-hits. I'D like to see magical on-hits becoming a viable option for some ranged dps. It would give another way of bypassing armorstacking without LW.

I think Hurricane could be the sustain item and grant 10(+5%AD) health on-hit and can compete with something like blade and open up more viable champions / build paths for current champions

That's a double-edged sword. The only way you could reduce the price would be either by the combination cost or by dropping the price of Recursive Bow, a key component in the Hurricane recipe. The latter solution could easily backfire since it increases the availability of the other two items Recursive Bow builds into which could adversely affect multiple champion builds.

Or change the build path as he suggested. possibly remove a dagger from it, or replace something that gives ad so the item can give ad and less attack speed.

I don't see either of those things happening.

If hurricane was revamped to provide less AS, and a bit of AD, it would seem a lot better imo.

No, it wouldn't.

The entire point of hurricane is spreading on-hit effects, which are almost always reliant on %AS. A solid number of champions perfer the AP + AS path to AD as well, so you'd be making it worse on the few champions that do currently enjoy it (AP Varus, Kog, Teemo, Kayle, Lulu).

Problem with Hurricane on marksman is the side bolts can't critically strike, and Hurricane is a %AS item with no movement speed. Once you add the mandatory Infinity Edge and Last Whisper, you're looking at more an overload of AD than not enough, AD would likely devalue Hurricane even for AD champions.

Runaan's main problem is that there's no decent pure crit item other than IE. Everybody is going to want IE to scale on crit +dam, which means you're going to want another +crit item, and the existing ones all have enough +AS on them that Runaan's on top of it starts getting inefficient.

item 3046 is 2800 gold and item 3085 is 2400 gold, so not sure what you mean by more expensive.

As for Hurricane being fairly pricy - offering 70% AS increases the AA DPS of most champions by 70%~50% off of base AS (per-level AS gets added to item bonuses) - and the 2 50%+10 damage side bolts more than double the AA DPS as long as you can strike

Even with only the 50% DPS increase from AS - the additional 100% DPS increase from the side bolts will actually take your %DPS from 100% to 150%, then 150% to 300% - seeing an effective 200% %DPS increase from a single item, which is pretty massive. Outside of Tiamat/Hydra in the right place, Hurricane's %DPS increase is likely the single highest in the game.

Also, it's important to consider there's no 50% drop-off in the potency of on-hit effects on Hurricane, so the %HP shred from Kingblade, the on-hit magic damage from Wit's End or Feral Flare, or the in-build damage of things like Blight, Switcheroo Rockets, Deadly Venom, Bip-Arcane - so you're DPS has some potential to actually more than triple with Hurricane.

It clearly has it's drawbacks, but it's level of power isn't something that should really be offered for free.

Rather raise the cost of all crit items by like 12 % or more
