Why is autofill even a thing ? I don't get it.

Where's the logic in getting a new champ select then turning on autofill. I don't have a problem with autofill because this season I'm playing only support and I get the role pretty much every game. However, when I get an autofilled d4 jungle only player vs. a fucking d1 draven/vayne one trick, then there's a god damn difference in bot lane, one which I cannot save. Or when any role gets autofilled in jungle and it's an auto lose because you just can't deal with the enemy one trick lee jungler constantly ganking our jungle and every lane. This is just dumb. Yeah, props to the matchmaking too, gotta play vs. d1's to leave d5, gottem riot.

Because if it wasnt, queue times increase dramatically, then casuals who only play a match or two a day stop playing because they can't get a quick enough match, then queue times increase more, and it's a self feeding process till you end up with something like WoW dungeon finder where you can spend an hour in queue waiting for a dungeon group. Which is basically useless. Anything over a couple minutes to join a random match is fairly unacceptable for a game like LoL to me.

True, but then what's the point of implementing NCS. People complain about autofill now just like they did before on blind pick. Also, I know they're trying to make support role appealing for a while now, but still, something larger has to happen if so many people don't even wanna touch the role.

Because even with autofill we get our role more than before. It's still a net improvement over season 5.

The only reason queue times became a problem is because they have both a flex and solo Q, splitting up the ranked playerbase

Autofill is a band aid solution to push flex Q into popularity

heres a better suggestion.

lets go back to no role selection, random 5 people in a room together.

enjoy talking and communicating, trying to work with complete strangers to get a proper team going.

autofill exists because support is the least played role, if you didn't have one you wouldn't be able to play meta and you would always end up with a teemo bot lane. it indirectly reduces toxicity because now the "loser" is assigned instead of everyone arguing over who was supposed to do what, it also lowers queue times a lot.
