You think low elo would be less terrible if the tutorial was revamped?

Ok sure but why··1 votes·1,063 views

Like, we all know that it's a real sad life down here. You'll just be farming in your lane, being even in CS with the enemy ADC whilst you both have no kills, because you're playing it safe!

#AN ALLY HAS BEEN SLAIN. #AN ALLY HAS BEEN SLAIN. #AN ALLY HAS BEEN SLAIN. #AN ALLY HAS BEEN SLAIN.

"Garen? Why are you 0/4/0? It's been 7 minutes." "WHY WON'T MY SPINNING KILL HIM WTF" "Why are you dying under his tower?" "MY SPINNING SHOULD KILL HIM" "gg" "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"

It happens a lot. I cry at night thinking about it, because people like that legitimately exist.

What if the tutorial was better than it currently is? What if it had specific lessons for each individual champion? What if it had you practice specific combos for certain champs? What if you had to pass a "test" in order to be allowed to play the champ in ranked? They wouldn't be hard tests. They'd be common sense, so people will actually have common sense in ranked!

For example: Gangplank can be put in 3 different scenarios (which involves specifically programmed bots to perform certain tasks) that he has to overcome in a specific way.

  1. After getting ulted by a Sion, use W and escape before Sion hits you with a fully charged Q.
  2. While being chased by a Sion (just use Sion most of the time), use his barrels to successfully slow the Sion and run away.
  3. Land some specific barrel combos on practice dummies.

If he can do those 3 things, then great! That means he isn't just first-timing him in ranked just for "fun." In ranked. I mean, none of this would affect NORMS. But if someone passes the tutorial test, you can get a little thing on your champ icon in the Collection tab that stands for "Ranked Certified." It could go below the "Chest Earned" and "Highest Rating:" things, just to look nice.

You know how everyone complains about people taking new champs into ranked for the first time? Well, this would make that scenario much less stressful! Because they would have at least learned a couple basic strategies to use with that specific champion. Until then, here's to all the people planning to first-time Pyke in ranked!

the tutorial makes no sense atm, you start with ashe at the bridge.... if only riot would give you 5 champs for each lane and a tutorial for each lane, and THE RIGHT BUILD for each champ on each lane, not like an ashe on the bridge forcing you to buy armor kek XD

but its not just the tutorial the strategy for low elo is mainly 1-2-2 or 2-1-2 or 2-2-1, since no smite -.- so not only is this game steep for new players, it also doesn't introduce jungler at all, untill new players can actually get high enough where they meet players that do know about jungle..... or a smurf, which is why so many remain unranked or bronze.

I mean yes, League should actually have a tutorial. I agree on that. But for the rest.

Not really. I say that because even when they want to know, even when they ask, if you tell people what they should do to do better, they won't do it. Because there's people who just want to play but who don't want to try and they receive the results of that decision. Because there's the people like the ones you described who just want to throw their champion at people.

The thing is, the ones who are motivated to get better already have the resources and information to do that. But the ones who aren't, aren't going to. I don't have faith that the kind of things that you are referring to are done solely out of honest ignorance and would not be done if they were simply told.

"They wouldn't be hard tests. They'd be common sense, so people will actually have common sense in ranked! "

As you are implying, these things are not hard. These are simple things that that they would already know and do if they had capability or willingness to do so. It's unfortunate, but it looks like you are also trying to find a solution to fix the issue of people who are bad at video games being bad at video games in your games.

"But it couldn't hurt..." But I doubt it would help and I think it would be more helpful if the resources were spent on other things, like fixing that bug that shouldn't have happened where killing minions draws minion aggro.

Well, this counterpoint is based on the idea that people who legitimately refuse to learn, improve, or even TRY to not make games worse for 9 other people should be entitled to play ranked at all! There are modes known as "Blind Pick," "Draft Pick," "ARAM," and "Rotating Game Mode" for people who just wanna screw around and have a jolly ol' time being pure trash. I know Bronze exists, but when Riot has the sheer audacity to put first-timers, bronzes AND golds into Silver matchmaking, then that basically defeats the purpose of there being a difference between divisions at all.

If there was even the smallest, slightest imbecile-filtration system, such as disallowing you from playing champs you don't even know how to play in Ranked, it would benefit everyone else! And it's everyone else that matters. If you're a garbage player, you shouldn't feel bad about losing LP. But if you're a good player, and you're busy farming, but you keep getting distracted by AN ALLY HAS BEEN SLAIN as your Garen fails his 7th tower dive, then something is just wrong. Something needs to be done to keep those people far, far, FAR away, back to Norms where they belong.

I didn't declare that they should be entitled to play ranked.

"Well, this counterpoint is based on the idea that people who legitimately refuse to learn, improve, or even TRY to not make games worse for 9 other people should be entitled to play ranked at all! " It sounds like you are talking about a different system than what you proposed. Something for the people who go "Hey, I got Pyke and he looks cool. I'm going to try him out in ranked, the real game mode!" and then feed trying to see how good he is at tower diving at level 3. With your sentiment and talk of an imbecile filtration system, it sounds like you would be talking about ranked bans instead. Something for those people who don't care and do whatever. Something that would address people who just autoplay ranked and just give up and stop trying if the game gets hard or they aren't carrying. Repercussions between "can only type a few lines in chat in a few games" and "perma-banned account" that address problems is something that I would be willing to listen to and even support.

I just don't think a mode that says "Gangplank W cleanses CC. Press W to cleanse the CC" is something that would help your issues. The ability already says that. I don't think it would filter imbeciles, I think it's development cost for the sake of a low delay for imbeciles who will continue to be imbeciles.

I agree with Sparkle "If there's one thing I've learned as an Experience Designer and resident person-who-cares-too-much-about-tooltips, it's that you can't make people read things. " I know from experience you can't make people understand patch notes. And I doubt anyone can make people apply good decision making.

I guess it is essentially just a moral qualm, then. My brain says, "Ban them all!" but then my heart says, "They might not all be hopelessly lost!" But as of now, all of them get away with what they do. And we can at least agree on the fact that that isn't very right for anyone.

I mean, a tutorial teaching the garen player how to spin wont stop him from spinning under an enemy tower anyway.

just like a revamped tutorial would give me general knowledge, but id still suck in practice.
