They are useless gimmicks that guarantee their team a loss late game
1- Calling them useless while everytime melees are too weak/rangeds are too strong they boast an insane winrate in both soloQ and competitive is quite the understatement
2- Out of the 15 best winrates in top atm, 6 are ranged, so about 40% of the best toplaners are ranged (if it wasn't for the fact that several ranged tops got nerfed recently, this number would exceed the 50% mark). I don't really think this qualifies them to guarantee loses at any point of the game, since they boast pretty impressive winrates nonetheless
3- Why is late game even mentioned since two of the most prominent ranged toplaners at the moment
are reputed to have amongst some of the biggest late games in the game?
and force their junglers to play tanks in order for their team to have a semblance of a frontline to protect their ADC.
-Maybe you've noticed, but apart from
, there's no real "tanks" getting picked either top or jungle at the moment. In fact, the other 60% concerning the best toplaners at the moment are almost exclusively assassins or bruisers building 100% damage, same for jungle. Picking a melee top laner or a ranged one who does the same thing doesn't have any impact into what is or should be picked jungle right now.
Ranged top laners also tend to push in lanes so they make for really easy ganks as well and die much quicker in a 2v1.
They tend to die much quicker in a 2v1, true. But since they push lanes so hard (most of the time under turret) they put themselves into a way better position than a melee champion. A melee champion needs to stay close to the upcoming wave to have any impact or cs. A ranged one, on the other hand, can almost be in the middle of the lane while still being able to push under tower. This forces laners and junglers who doesn't have godly mobility to be incredibly quick, since the jungler needs to reach the middle of the lane and catch the fleeing ranged enemy, while the laner must go through his entire pushed enemy wave and reach the opponent at the same time. Spoiler alert: ranged laners are in a much safer position, allowing them to prevent most 2v1 if they know what they are doing.
