Should champion mastery points get reset if they get a major rework?

My reasoning

It's no longer the same champion you learned

It's border line a complete brand new champion

Not really, it's the same champion

so if yasuo got a complete rework and a name change do you think people should keep the mastery?

nope, this is coming from a mastery 7 yasuo btw, I would feel no salt.

That wouldn't be a rework then.

MatthewRT22 votes

it's them reworking him into a different champ

LostFr0st1 votes

No, that would be deleting him and releasing a new champ at the same time D: =/= rework

MatthewRT22 votes

look at yorick, he was completely reworked they even changed his lore making him a total different champion that just happened to have the same name

LostFr0st1 votes

His core didn't change though, he's still Yorick and is a monster at pushing and sustain.

MatthewRT22 votes

I never said he wouldn't keep his core (NERF IT TO OBLIVION) aspects, just a guy that uses wind and swings a sword but a new name

LostFr0st1 votes

Why bother renaming at all then?

MatthewRT22 votes

so there will be a new name on all the hate threads

Then it wouldn't be "yasuo" anymore

I disagree. If Sion's old iteration had been around when Mastery was introduced, and a Sion main earned 100k mastery on old sion, when the rework happened for Sion he is no longer the same champion. Not even close. I believe the old mastery score should be set aside, but still visible for posterity, but for the new version, yes it should be reset

I don't even want my mastery points because then people will start thinking im some sort of god at my champ even though all i do is play them frequently

It's too subjective unfortunately. For example, Zyra's mage rework required very little adaptation in continuing to play the champion well. On the other hand, Graves is completely different. Those reworks are of the same scale officially but in terms of how they affect old players they're worlds apart.

On top of that, some players will adjust a lot easier to reworks than others. A champion gets reworked and one of their old mains finds they can barely play them anymore and their old mastery is meaningless. Another player finds that they adapt really quickly and continue to find success. Should both of them lose all of their previous mastery? I doubt the second player would be happy.

It's awkward to keep mastery after reworks sometimes but the other choice is too easy to be a bad decision.

Maybe it could be like an offer?

If you first log in after a major rework was released, there is a prompt giving you your current mastery with the champion and asking whether you want to reset your mastery. If you reset, mousing over the champion in your profile informs you with an additional line: "Pre-Patch X.X: YYYYY Mastery points (rank Z)"

Unlocked Mastery 6 and 7 would be saved and automatically unlocked with the next S game after reaching Mastery 5...

In theory? Yes. (looking at reworks like SIon) In Practice? Why? You dont get anything special while having spend resources on it. (Chests, IP... maybe even RP)

Maybe a system to hide your mastery until you get your first S?... But that's BS... It would need some wasted time of coding and bugfixing... just totaly not worth!
