If you have a 50% winrate and still manage to climb, there's clearly something wrong with the system

I have an almost dead even 50% win ratio on this account, but i still manage to climb albeit slowly.

This should never happen. A 50% win ratio should put you almost back from where you started on all accounts. However some things get around that (More LP from wins than you lose from losses) which helps, but it shouldn't make the difference of that many divisions.

I started this season in Gold IV.

Gold. IV.

With a consistent 50% win ratio I have now gone to Platinum IV.

Now this isn't a huge climb, and it doesn't say too much about me, but what it does say is multiple of the following

A) I am clearly good enough to climb, despite me defying the winrate odds, and the majority of things causing my losses are wrenches thrown into the gears completely out of my control

Which is likely. It's extremely unlikely to get carried in solo queue so much so to get pushed into an entire rank above where you started while still winning only every other game.

And from my experience, yes, the wrenches are causing the losses. As I've said before matchmaking doesn't care if you are on a win streak or a loss streak, if you are near the same number and it needs you to balance teams, it will put you there. However different the skill may be. 190 + 10 +150 + 50 +100 = 500 does not work. The only way to fix stuff like this is to increase queue timers. However, I will actually wait 10 minutes before each game if I actually get a good quality game of 190 x 5 vs 190 x 5. Because that's how it SHOULD be

B) It doesn't matter what your % is, it only matters WHEN the losses happen.

This is the dumbest thing in a long time. This theory could work in a single player game when you control what happens consistently.

But this isn't a single player game. It's a multiplayer game. You don't control everything that happens. You can do well and the other people you got put with will cause a loss. That loss might happen at an inconvenient time, like losing a promo!

Oh no, you rolled the dice and got a really bad result, thus leading to things that aren't your personal skill effecting your rank that reflects your personal skill

Why? ELO doesn't do this. It doesn't care when the losses happen. You win, you gain #. You lose, you lose#. There's no bullshit to say "Well you lost at exactly 9:13 pm on a sunday in august so this loss is 3x penalty".

C) Promotions don't work as a whole.

If anything, promotions should be keeping someone from a 50/50 winrate from climbing. You need to boast a higher percentage than that just to pass promos, let alone get to them. All this means is that promotions are nothing but a negative and feel bad experience for everyone involved.

When I win a promo, I don't think "Wow, I feel so proud of myself!" I think "Thank christ I didn't have some bullshit happen here"

And when I lose a promo I dont think "Darn, I need to reflect on my personal skill and try again next time!" I think "Are you fucking kidding me some bullshit happened that wasted the last 6 hours of my league of legends experience."

These systems dont work. You can't have a personal test be effected by other people.

Imagine a classroom. Everyone there is taking the same test, and depending on how well everyone else did your result is effected. Class average 50% cause it was a hard test and you aced it? Doesn't matter, you failed.

This is the same shit going on. You can't have a test of personal skill in a game where its collective skill.

You can't remedy systems like this. You can't have personal skill reflected in a system where the majority of the result is effected by things that are not your personal skill

A 50%b win rate can make you climb or drop based on your hidden mmr and your displayed rank.

You gain more LP then you lose?

i had a 48~49% overall winrate and i climbed from silver 2 -> g5, its because the system knows im actually a lot better than those around me and raw LP forces me up, its all about lucky streaks.

but its absolutely atrocious that it takes a large volume of games to do it in.

TBH - It's late I didnt work through this all - maybe tomorrow. =P

But I want t leave this for now:

Even with a 50% W/L people can climb due to the fact their hidden MMR =/= Shown Rank.

If the system sees you at Gold Elo and matches you against Gold people, but your shown Rank is Siver you will ultimately climb. OFC there are tons of other factors influencing your actual MMR gains/losses but the MMR is the most obvious reason for such scenarios. ^^

Are you facing players on average at a higher MMR and still going even? You will still climb but the advantage will decay over time.

Same goes for lower skilled players then you.

Going even will eventually catch up to where you currently are.
