I feel like there would be quite the correlation between the two. It always seems that Yi becomes really OP right as a new major patch comes out which changes many things with many un-tuned parts. And then when the patch is actually pretty good, Yi sinks back into the shadows.

Why? Fervor of Battle was better for him then any new keystone firstly. lethal tempo takes 1.5 seconds to charge once you have gotten to the enemy. By then he's either dead, by time by the time he gets to a carry or even if he isn't he's losing the AD by not having fervor of battle which leaves him little true damage.. so he does no damage anyway, press the attack is slightly better but still takes to long to get damage out since every one can burst or has zonyahs or to much moblity that he cant keep up.
Yi has never been op the problem is that in the past he's been given items that make you unduelable like deavour with rageblade hard hitting items he could build tank with and still outdamage everyone the days of that are long gone, he was bad/ok all last season still viable up to plat but right now he ,is struggling the worst he ever has done.

Agreed with everything you said, I played him a bit yesterday and you can't do anything, literally. You just get nuked before you can even q.
It's really a shame that in a single patch many champs have become trash.
