Warrior or Sated Devourer on Vi? (Numbers Included)

So I have been arguing that the staple item for Vi to get has changed from Warrior to Sated Devourer, mostly because of its interaction with her W. But instead of just opinion, let's do some math.

In a full rotation, Warrior enchant delivers (not including the 10 flat armor pen): Q: 32 - 64 physical damage W: Proccing once (with 1 additional auto attack between E's) + 40 physical damage from the additional auto attack between E's. E: 46 physical damage per charge R: 56 physical damage

In a full rotation, Sated Devourer enchant delivers: W: Proccing twice (with 1 additional auto attack between E's) + 60 magic damage from the additional auto attack between E's. E: 60 magic damage per charge (120 on the second charge)

Using Sated Devourer, you gain more than you lose, so it seems.

What you lose: 224-246 flat physical damage on full rotation (including the extra damage from the 10 armor pen) 10 flat armor pen 10% CDR

What you gain: An additional proc of your W (4-10% of target's max health in physical damage) + 240 magic damage on a full rotation 60 magic damage on-hit (120 every second hit) 50% attack speed The ability to proc your W every two hits instead of every three (thus doing approximately 1.33-3.33% extra max HP physical damage every auto in extended teamfights; which synergizes great with the extra 50% attack speed) The ability to double proc all on-hit effects a second time every other auto attack

So, not including the extra damage from the flat 10 armor pen (which would be a bit extra for the Warrior enchant), this is all of the calculations needed to be done. I could not include the armor pen into the calculations due to the amount of damage it would add being reliant on both enemy armor (because of the way it reduces damage done) and on what level the ability was at.

I argue that Sated Devourer is a better pick up on Vi, because it gives her the ability to do almost as much (or more, depending on enemy %max HP) damage on a full rotation of Vi's spells (including her ult) as Warrior, more damage on just a rotation of the basic 3 abilities, MUCH HIGHER sustained damage, and the ability to go tank/tanky while still being a massive threat (damage-wise).

My personal build on her is: {Sated Devourer > BotRK > Full Tank items} + [AD Tank Masteries] + (Attack Speed, Scaling Armor, and Flat MR runes)

Though I haven't experimented much on different builds for her, so I am almost sure that is not the most optimized build path for her.

What do you think of Sated Devourer Vi vs Warrior Vi? Have any ideas for builds? Any thoughts on the current state of the Warrior enchant/Sated Devourer enchant?

Sated should be stronger late, but you are sacrificing Warrior's early pressure while you build stacks. That's the point worth contesting, it should be generally accepted that Sated is better late game.

I'd have thought Trinity Force over BotRK on her build, btw. Haven't played her much at all though, so what do I know :P

Sated should be stronger late, but you are sacrificing Warrior's early pressure while you build stacks. That's the point worth contesting, it should be generally accepted that Sated is better late game. Vi's kit has enough early game pressure for her to get ganks off reliably even if you start with Devourer. Also, new Devourer rewards you for getting kills and killing Scuttle Crab (thus creating more mobility for faster ganking) by giving you 2 stacks instead of 1. Also, because you will likely not be able to afford Devourer (or any enchant) until around lvl 4-6 (depending on how you are doing in the jung), you still would be ganking the same amount as you would be if you were planning to get Warrior (or even Cinderhulk). Her early game power will be a little less without Warrior, but the benefits from getting your Sated Devourer (and becoming a tank who can do as much damage as an assassin to both squishies and other tanks) will be well worth the small sacrifice to pure stats you would miss out on in the early-mid game.

I'd have thought Trinity Force over BotRK on her build, btw. BotRK double stack mixed with her W melts enemies to nothing, even when she does not have any more additional damage by building tank. Trinity is kind of good on her, but the benefits between her W and BotRK mixed with Sated Devourer's double proc passive is too good to give up.

I agree on the first point. I was just mentioning what the possible reason to go Warrior may be. While you don't have the full enchant, you do have damage from the Longswords during the build process, which may end up changing a failed gank in to a successful one. Overall though, I think it would be worth the slightly worse early game to have a significantly better late game.

For BotRK vs. TF: I guess it depends what you're looking to do. Have 3 tanks on the enemy team and an ally that can burst squishes already? Definitely go BotRK. Have one bruiser on the enemy team (and no tanks) and a tanky team yourself? Trinity Force will give you better burst. Anywhere in between? Depends on each game, but I think Vi is made better for the burst. Then again, I'm yet to test her yet, so BotRK might just be that much better with Sated's passive.

With Sated Devourer, BotRK would do similar damage as a TF.

This is because each auto would go like this, using the Sated Devourer's double on-hit passive: Auto 1: 8% current health Auto 2: 8% current health, then 8% current health again Auto 3: 8% current health Auto 4: 8% current health, then 8% current health again

And, unlike Trinity force, you could use it over and over in a sustained teamfight, while Trinity Force would only allow you to do 200% of your base damage once every 2 seconds (which you would be doing A LOT MORE damage than that proc is giving you just from your autos, with BotRK hitting about three times for each Trinity Force passive proc). Also, the active damage on it allows for more of a sudden nuke (10% of their max HP) which also heals you. Also, this becomes your main form of sustain.

Literally, unless you crit with the Zeal's crit chance, you are going to be doing less burst damage with it. Though, maybe it is better. This is just me doing the basic math in my head. I say try it out, if you really want. If you can prove me wrong, I would love it. It would mean there is a way to make this build that I am theorycrafting even better.

On a warrior build Triforce would be the way to go, but with devourer you want the bonus on-hit effect from Bork, so youre doing something like 12%maxhp+8%currenthp on the second hit.

I don't really play Vi. But I would imagine you would want to Lock down a prime target and burst them down as fast as possible. To Do that, You would want Warrior. Devourer is better for dueling, But I'm assuming you didn't pick Vi to duel the enemy.

As shown, by the numbers above; Vi's burst is barely affected by switching from Warrior to Sated Devourer. In some cases, it is increased.

This means you have higher kill potential with a Sated Devourer (while still having the option to build tank).

Trinity Force is probably better with Warrior to emphasis on bursting your enemies.

Blade of the Ruined King is probably better with Devourer to properly benefit from the Sated Devourer's passive and focus on sustained damage.

Black Cleaver is probably better with Cinderhulk to emphasis on durability, while providing utility (CDR, Armor Pen) and damage.

But yeah, Vi building Warrior or Devourer or Cinderhulk is dependent on her role on her team and whether or not she wants to focus on early pressure, late-game durability, or late-game sustained damage.

Warrior is in a bad spot right now because it's the only stat stick jungle item left. It's not even a very slot efficient stat stick, just a brutalizer with 15 extra AD. Cinderhulk + an actual slot efficient damage item is almost always better. Back before the black cleaver rework, I used to build warrior on Vi and replace it with cleaver later, as it was pretty much a perfect upgrade in all aspects, had all the same stats or more. I would have triforce and cleaver + full tank. It was nice to not have a conflicting phage passive. The new black cleaver, though arguably a better item, still made my vi build awkward and clunky. So before this sated thing came out, I was just doing the basic bitch machete upgrade and then going straight for an actual non shit item. I still build cleaver and triforce, because the synergy is just too good. Denting blow debuff + 6 cleaver stacks takes away almost half a champion's armor. But anyway, iv'e had a lot of success lately with this new sated thing, proccing your percent max hp chunking every other auto makes you hella bursty against squishies and makes you melt tanks with ease. I don't even build botrk, just devourer and black cleaver then full tank or frozen mallet for maximum stick. if you build botrk you would be a bit too squishy for my taste but i havent actually tried it in a real game yet. But yeah devoruer vi has definitely been the most effective since like season 4 before any nerfs.
