I noticed something interesting about Overcharge.

Despite being populated solely by ADCs, aka "the highest damage but lowest defense" class... it actually takes time, and many hits to kill each other. The source of the big difference? No Runes titanically amping everyone's damage to fuckfinity.

Gl trying to kill Graves, he gets a lot of armor at high levels so he’s unkillable with Death’s Dance in an ADC only gamemode.

I mean corki should be able to do something Idk tho, haven’t played the mode

Because ADCs deal sustained damage. No, really. There is no ADC that doesn't have ramping up damage in some way, shape or form, with the two exceptions of Miss Fortune (whom, with the fact that she buys Lethality nearly all the time, now, I've been calling a ranged assassin) and Quinn (who, let's admit, has been an assassin for a while).

ADCs simply lack the ability to blow things up instantly, unless fed to hell. And lifesteal tends to counteract lifesteal, and lifesteal is a powerful stat in a DPS-only game mode. The amount of sustain you have matters more than almost anything else in Overcharge.

Actually, I think the bigger thing is that nobody can get fed. I don't believe kills are worth any gold or EXP in it, so nobody can truly get "fed".

Adding on to this: except for a few specific champs (looking at you, Draven), "adc burst" doesn't happen until mid to late game, when you have 50-80% crit and a solid bit of AD to back it up. In this mode, you're spending the vast majority of the time you're at 1-3 items.

That said, I've definitely seen people get deleted by full lethality MF/Graves in this mode. Which makes sense, because lethality spikes earlier (and scales worse, but that doesn't matter in this mode).

These are all good points; although the Overcharge Bots are worth 200g each, but believe me there's a noticable difference between being 4-5 shot by Draven, and dying to the first shiv crit.

With the current state of Marksmen I've taken to calling the ADC ones "draintank assassins" instead, considering it's fairly accurate to what they do.

...

Look, unless they actually buy lethality (or get so insanely fed that a Soraka that build straight tank could be one-shotting), they're not assassinating anything. Hell, you can't even one-shot a minion without a Shiv Crit (or some other damage boost).

There's no XP, but there is gold. If your team gets dumpstered during the first 4 minutes, you will feel it for the next 4.

Yeah, I'll be honest, it was actually pretty nice to play without runes personally.

YoungFarmer5 votes

Is it actually the lack of runes, I just assumed that they had some sort of passive damage resistance built into the game.

Hyrum Graff2 votes

It's a bunch of things, most of which are mentioned in other comments.

Ahris2 votes

Thanks to these runes ahri is playable though. Without it she was just unviable in highelo.

Though, she is still weak in highelo.

Dream High10 votes

Dunno what that's got to do with this thread. Yes the runes have improved Ahri's win % but most people still don't know what to pick on their champs and go with whatever.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Most gold + people have figured what they needed since like day 3, at the latest, after the preseason hit though ._.

I myself knew ahead of times thanks to youtube, took me watching a video for 10 minutes to know what i wanted and didn't want.

Dream High1 votes

Not even close to true. Most are picking whatever they like, not what is objectively the best rune for whatever match up they're in.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

That's the charm of the new system, there are several options that have pros and cons and you can actually choose between a few that no one will objectively call outright bad.

The most clear example of this would the the domination three though......dark harvest, predator and electrolute are all great options on most champs that use such a page.

Sorcery is more limited with few taking phase rush but people still switch between aery and comet.

Precision and resolve are probably the worst tree's in terms of how good the keystones are compared to each other, precision due to how lethal tempo is so easy to punish and how strong press the attack is.

And how few the fleet fotwork users are x)

Resolve due to how subpar all the keystones except aftershock are, unless we're talking like 40-50+ lategame.

But even with at least 2 options and a lot of side choices people still know what's the best most of the time.

At least in my gold/plati lvl elo, and my "high" silver friends told me the same thing.

They all knew what to use without me telling them.

as an ahri main 500000 k masterie i think new runes are really good on ahri, lifevamp on spells + new thunderlord is amazing on her, yes u lose early game, but u are able to work as an assasin/burst mage again, instead of being a poke mage

HarrowR9 votes

Again the dude with the Ahri fetish

It Hertz When IP2 votes

I assumed it was the lack of CC. You got two ADCs shooting each other with lifesteal, no reliable CC threat, and no minions to take advantage of; it's gonna take a while for someone to die.

YuGiHo2 votes

Vayne Graves Draven all of them have some form of cc that prevents u form fighting back when they hit u

RocketRelm2 votes

I'm fairly sure that this has comparatively little to do with the runes, and comparatively more to do with the fact that you rarely get to even 3 items. Once you get up to that point, you really do start nuking people out of the game.

LordGeovanni2 votes

lowest defense my ass. Range in itself is a defense extra movemnt speed with zeal and their stats as good as any other class

You get bonus armor and mr in overcharge,+18 at the beginning of the game, not sure if it scales more though, there's certainly more resistances,i thought Graves was going to be a cheese pick and no one would be able to kill him but with other adcs having more resistances its an even playing field, well almost,Vayne,Ez,Tristana perform better than most

Vayne has the benefit of E working legit everywhere, and Ez and Trist can easily hop over to the almost-inaccessible platform on the far right. That said, I hadn't noticed the buffed resists. I did notice, though, you can't buy item 3047

I've seen a lot of really good points made so far, and thank you guys for all contributing. I do still believe the lack of runes has something to do with it. Not getting clapped with Press The Attack the instant Lucian resets his AA with E is pretty noticeable.

yeah cuz graves killing people with 1 AA is MANY hits

I haven't seen that happen once in Overcharge and I've been addicted to it.

then you are lucky, ive seen it in 90% of my games

graves rushing duskblade and IE literally one shotting every one, having 20 kills and solo winning games

Idk man Graves and Draven are pretty broken in that mode.

Draven seems pretty ass, that weird corridors make it obnoxiously hard to catch axes.

Barkley1 votes

New runes are cancer. Period.

Play with them because I have to, not because they're cool and I want to. Welcome to the League of Dota, where every champion is broken, the balance is made up, and the objectives don't matter.
