Ganking Illaoi...

So I'm 3-0, pantheon jungle... level 6.

There's an Illaoi mid, for whatever reason, against Katarina (guess she lane swapped so Taliyah could fight Riven, which would have gone worse with Illaoi).

I'm ahead so I decide to mandrop on the LEVEL 5, 0-1 or 1-1 Illaoi. I drop directly on her head, kat shunpos... Illaoi literally one hits us both to 10% hp after I stun, Q, E... we both flash away. She didn't even have ult yet... or it's possible she got it right at that very second.

"Yea, that's right bitches" ofc the Illaoi BMs... And why shouldn't she? You simply cannot gank her... ganking her just gives her more damage, or what? more healing? I don't understand how you're supposed to deal with her, if the laner can't do anything and she can't be ganked...

Next time I go for a gank... we're both killed, 1v2... By this point I was 5-0, Kat was like 3-1. Illaoi was still 1-1... Now she's 3-1...

Just wat...

Just what the hell is this champ? People keep saying "just don't go near her" but what kind of counterplay is that? So the lane is free, just because they selected this champ? I understand she's relatively vulnerable to ranged champs... but if she counterpicks a melee, you can't even gank her? ALONG WITH not being able to lane against her? Or even farm?

It happens... every. single. time. Every time there's an Illaoi, she wins the 1v2s and 1v3s of ganks... every time. Even if so behind it's not even funny. How are you supposed to deal with her?

Wait till she ults, run away, re-engage. All her damage and healing comes from you standing in her tentacles, which you can just walk away from.

I mean I understand this much, but there's no way to know for sure when she's going to ult... especially if you're a melee, you're kinda screwed.

Just watch her. She does a slam dunk in air. You have about a full second to notice and walk away. You'll likely take some damage, but it won't one shot you if you're paying attention and move out of the way.

All Illaoi is, is a wombo combo by herself. after that she's pretty harmless imo.

Pretty much.

You don't need to know exactly the moment she ults, she deals damage over time with the tentacles, you just need to not stand and fight her when she ult.

I mean, I 1v4'd a team as Illaoi once because of her ult. She's a team fighting monster. It might be best just to pick a ranged champion into her. It would be even better for the laner laning against her to roam and push for kills elsewhere to snowball the team.

Generally its easier to gank her early when she isn't about to drop 2 extra tentacles and a healing factor on that fine butt.

She's a juggernaut. She wins in melee range, that's what juggernauts do.

lol. yeah. honestly today. even with jax i had trinity force. some lifesteal. and armor. and i couldn't fucking 1v1 her i was like. what the hell is going on? i ran away from her ultimate the problem is that her W really hurts now for an aa reset. she always did too much damage for the kind of champion she is she just lacked reliability. so guess what. they gave her more damage

Lazypeon1001 votes

See, giving her reliability would have made her a much better champion imo. I'm pretty positive Riot didn't do that though because they want that to be an intended weakness. Her problem before was you needed at least two damage items to be useful, and that meant you'd be squishy by the time you needed to soak up damage which is a big reason to why she fell off so hard before. She still falls off due to the inherit issues in her kit, but at least she can soak some damage now and still maintain damage to remain relevant.

i have no problem in her not falling off. what i have problem with is going go get a single cs and losing 60% of my health at level 3. I mean not even darius or garen bully melee that much. shes too bursty.

Lazypeon1001 votes

She is a lane bully, like renekton she is meant to make lane phase hell for her enemy and then try to translate that to a midgame lead for her team.

She cannot bring you down by 60% of your health at level 3 unless you are playing poorly / incorrectly against her. I'm not saying that to be rude, but it's the truth. In order for her to do that, you have let her land her E, let her wail on it while not fighting over it, and you and your spirit are eating tentacle smacks to the face.

Without that, and the prior set up she has to do in order to even make that possible, it is mathematically impossible for her to do 60% of your he alth while you go for a single CS at level 3.

Try playing Illaoi for a bit. it might give you some insight on how to play against her. She does have weaknesses, you just have to get the hang of playing against her.

U have to dodge her tentacles bro. Apply healing reduction. Once she ultis, disengage , then reengage.

I love how people downvote this, because I'm asking how to play against her... lol

Nonetheless some good advice in here. As much as I hate her as a champ (not because I hate laning against her, just not my style), guess I'll have to play as her after all.

I usually can avoid her w and her ult, and see it coming even before she uses them... but as a champ like Pantheon who is an all in with no escape it's kinda difficult. Especially when you flat out expect to win the fight...

Thanks for the tips

Illaoi is unbeatable if you lag. That's just how her kit works.

I dodge if I see Illaoi in the enemy team because I have bad ping.

Illaoi goes mid because the walls her tentacles can attatch to are both closer to her in top or bot but they are also on both sides of her Illaoi can attatch 4 tentacles to each of the corner walls on both sides of the river bush in mid lane, and basically anyone that fights her while she's in the zone of these 4 tentacles face spawning a 5th ( Her E ) and then an additional 1-4 tentacles based off how many people she hits with her ult.

When you fight her, even when you commit to kill her, micro trade. Go in, hit, move, attack, move. Even on champs you'd usually all in and worry less about moving around (pantheon, q , jump in, attack Hydra, ect) Change your attack pattern, moving around while in melee range makes lining up her q's harder.

It's a combat pattern you have to develope unique to fighting Illaoi. As an ADC we know never to stand still, just pretend even if you are melee that you need to kite. Know how Melee champs can kite jungle champs moving around between hits to make the camp waste small bits of time moving in range to hit them? Do that.

Spend the time inbetween your autoattacks and your cooldowns moving.
