There needs to be a fundamental change to Kalista's kit

Hi, I am Lake Kokytos, I am a Karma/ Kalista main with around 400k Mastery points on both champions. I am here to address an issue that exists with Kalista in her current state. I've been playing Kalista since the patch I joined, through Season 6 when she was the worst ADC in the game, and now. Currently at Worlds, Kalista has maintained a 100% banrate on red side throughout the group stage, and I am almost certain that if a team got Kalista in play-ins, they most certainly won.

As with all utility ADCs (Ashe Sivir Jhin), Kalista has been both at the top of ADC viability in Pro Play, and bottom of the barrel in Solo Q. Sivir has been at one point described as the best champion in the game by oublelit, back when Sivir + Karma comps were king. Jhin was premier for making picks and poking down from long distances, and Ashe has seen her fair share of success.

Kalista has potential, her auto attacks have counterplay! She doesn't have ridonkulous DPS (hi Twitch) and her burst is telegraphed. But there are a bunch of key issues that prevent her from being a good champion design.

Fundamental Issues: -Fate's Call Fate's Call does not belong on an ADC, period. It is an overloaded ability, it enables supports to much and protects them from making terrible plays. Fate's Call also functions as a huge AoE knock-up which disables a botlanes' ability to 2v2 or a team to 5v5 without a pick. It probably feels the worst out of the whole forced "soulbound" idea.

-Neutral Objective Power The only jungler that can outsmite Kalista is Nunu. Nunu being non-viable in the current competitive meta, and maybe a tier 2 jungler at best in Solo Q. Jhin has a similar effect with Whisper.

Secondary Issues:

  • FREEE VISIOOONN Sentinel's Active basically makes it extremely hard to sneak Baron or Dragon. Hawkshot is more windowed in terms of active vision granted, especially because Sentinel has a more persistent effect because it can hover around Dragon and Baron. It can check for common gank paths.

-The Black Spear Soulbind is a good concept, but it just doesn't belong on any champion. Especially after the Karma rework, in which Riot stated "The effectiveness of Karma’s abilities relied too heavily on your teammates knowing all their nuances. No matter how hard you were carrying with Karma, your teammates had to be just as good with her for you to be super effective." The nuances with Sentinel- W, both passive portions, and Fate's Call make her unpalatable in Solo Q, and broken in competitive.

Tertiary Issues

-Martial Poise: While it's one of the more interesting and enjoyable portions of Kalista's kit, it's probably not fun for melee champions chasing a low health Karma Kalista kiting at top speed while she vamps up any damage you did to her. Conversely, it feels awful to use Martial Poise when you are slowed. Reduce the dash range, and make a 50/50 split between her current "ermagerd I got wither'd gg" and "lol slows wat are doesss". THis allows her to kite while attacking, while not making it absolutely ridonkulous for melee champs to get on top of her squishy ass.

-Scaling: Lastly, even though Kalista destroys hyper carries in lane, she also is susceptible to lane bullies such as Caitlyn and Varus, both of which stifled her viability in early Season 7 and late Season 6. The 90% AA scaling and her low base attack speed hurts her late game significantly and probably is one of the most creatively lazy nerfs in the history of LoL. Getting smashed in lane and then getting outscaled by that same champ feels like shat. Buff the attack speed to encourage that scaling.
