Why do silver players give up so easily?

Seriously, i'll have people start spamming the FF vote and GG in chat because of one bad teamfight.

This is an easy question to answer.

  • Silver players have a hard time playing from behind - hence they die a lot when they are losing.
  • Silver players do not understand when champions scale or how they scale - they don't understand when champions drop off or or when they become strong
  • Silver players only know how to win through teamfighting - they don't really understand a pick comp, poke comp, split push comp. They really only understand teamfighting as a thing you are suppose to eventually do.
  • They all have a poor understand of who is winning or losing because they can only assess the scoreboard through kills - Most silver players do not consider towers, dragons, barons, inhibs etc. down when trying to figure out "who is winning and who is losing" they mostly look at kills. So a team with 15 kills to 10 will appear to be winning even though they have no towers and your team has two.

That's about it. I really think them not understanding champion scaling (or maybe their skills) is a big problem with their moral.

Say there is a Fizz with 6 kills an the kill score is 7 to 2. They may want to give up because of that, but they don't understand that fizz is a champion that can only take out 1 target at a time so if you group and team fight one person may die but your team can clean up the fizz's teammates if everyone has about equal CS. People see a fed Lucian and want to give up but if they pay attention to his build they will realize that the armor pen build he does is strong early and very weak later. Lucian is also a champion with a strong early game and an OK mid and late game. The armor pen build makes him MUCH stronger early and weaker later. So if they don't close out a game your Jinx will simply outscale him through farming after 2 or 3 items.

I have climbed 3 accounts through silver this season and this was consistently what I saw. They see a Shaco with 10 kills and want to quit but he has all the kills it doesn't bode well for his team. There is almost no difference in him having 4 kills or 10 kills. The champion scales like crap even with items and can typically only be a distraction on the map as he kills one person.

I mean after playing 3 accounts through silver this season, I have typed to my teammates "we are fine" pretty frequently. I usually don't have to say or do that among mid to upper gold players.

There is definitely a consistent pattern in the silver elo and it mostly has to do with lack of game knowledge and specific play patterns. I do think mechanically a lot of silver players are just as good as most gold players.

Good luck in your climb!

I would add to this that they never let lanes push to farm up the difference. If you're losing, the lanes will push to you. You can then semi-safely farm up the gold difference.

Also, they don't tend to see when the winning team is throwing their lead. I've been in so many games where the winning team runs around dicking off instead of pushing objectives. The longer that goes on, the narrower the gap becomes.

The most common is the early kill count. But if you can push bot turret first, you can eliminate that lead. It's basically not understanding how the game works.

Wave management is definitely something they do not understand. Hell though, a lot of Gold players don't even understand that. I main Nasus and I play support as a secondary. I didn't even think about wave management when I was not that good at the game and in silver.

Now, I completely understand that it is incredibly important to play Nasus. In fact, when my jungler ganks my lane early, I don't think "I can get a kill" or "I need to avoid dying if this goes bad" or "can he kill the laner without too much help" the first thing I think of is "Is this going to screw up the wave and how it shifts?" or "how many minions will I miss?" and/or "is the jungler going to tax me X number of minions and then NOT help me shove it to tower?"

As a support I frequently have to tell my ADC to let the wave push to us and to stop autoing minions. It just makes me wonder if they are an ADC main and how they got to mid gold not thinking about the wave.

Your point about team fighting is so true that it hurts. It's like these players think that the only way to play the game is to lane for 15 minutes, take outer turrets, and then play aram for the rest of the game.

I see the opposite problem in the high end of Silver 1/Gold 5. People split push and roam constantly and nobody wants to group up and teamfight.

I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing this. I see so many games where players just refuse to group.

The reason I never gave up when I was going through Silver is because of how many people will split push and AFK farm forever when their team is winning. You force a team fight and either take out most of the team or take towers.

People in Silver throw matches like crazy, and that's the real issue I've seen.

I can't say Gold is any better. I know a lot of people on the boards pretend like it's wildly different from Silver, but we're talking like Silver 4/5 maybe 3. After that the lines blur for a while. I'm seeing a lot of the problems I saw at Silver 2 well into Gold.

I agree, least favourite part about silver elo. People are stubborn as hell, and would rather look "cool" by not caring than to work together and actually win.

Angry Monster2 votes

You assume silver elo knows how to do something outside of team fighting. If all the team is going to do is attempt to team fight after team fight and the results are loses every time, what is magically going to change? You are thinking to highly of silver players. The fact you think you can no matter what is not healthy.

In my experience at least in gold; when a surrender happens it usually agreed apron the first time, or on the secound. There seems to be a general agreement and or understanding in gold. Sure we can stall out for 15 minutes but in that time we are going to just get further behind and be slaughtered again.

You have to have a win condition. If you lose them all you should just end the game gracefully.

I think your mentality is a byproduct of the competitive mind set (LCS teams). Its been a few years since any team has tapped out and this mentality has spread into rank as the serious mind set (at the lower elos). There is nothing wrong with admitting you loss and bowing out/ff 15 minutes in advance of the technical defeat.

Silver players aren't great at the game to begin with, put them at a gold disadvantage and the tilt that comes with it and they WILL lose 9/10 times. Most have just come to terms with that.

Divewing2 votes

Gold is not much better. When golds fall behind they go uber try-hard to make up for their first mistake, which usually makes it worse. As much as I'd rather play Azir, I've had several games recently where this has happened and I'm simply not ahead enough to have my items in time. Normally I'm a Void Staff short.

I feel like the issue with playing from behind is for some reason people overthink it and frantically try to get out of the situation as soon as possible, and I suppose part of that is acknowledging champion/composition strengths, weaknesses, limitations, and win conditions. Also I feel players don't respect their opponents enough

Danny DeVito1 votes

You can remedy that by keeping team spirit up and trying to be a good shot caller. Trust me, if you make a call and it works out for your team they'll listen to you for the rest of the game.

Oh yeah. I remember saying something like "don't worry dude, we have a tristana. As long as we protect her we should be able to win late game" he stopped spamming after that. We did end up winning

silver is rito's dirty default mmr dumping ground for fresh ranked noob players

they simply float around to be carried while doing absolutely nothing to win the game, just accept it and move on.

IKR.

We were doing pretty poorly in my last game becuase we had a Riven jungle who got counterjungled so she got put behind. So we got bo gabks while their Nidalee could run around and gank people.

After their jinx took first blood then a double Maokai wanted to ff at 20.

By the time 20 mins rolled around we beat them so badly in a teamfight once Riven caught back up and he still started the vote.

Fortunately nobody said yes, becuase we won that game soundly.

In my experience (silver/gold) people refuse to ff when the team is down by 10+ kills, 150+ cs, 2-3 towers and 2 dragons at 20mins. Sorry, but that is gg and it's just plain toxic to force teammates to try and win when one of them wants to ff.
