couldn't you have tried more subtle nerfs to veigar's stun first?

most of the time when champions have really powerful abilities, it seems like riot tries subtle nerfs to rein in the power. a slight reduction in the hitbox width, a more obvious graphic to indicate to other players that they need to move, a slight duration increase or changing the effect to be a slightly weaker form of crowd control.

i just saw veigar's new stun and JESUS CHRIST THAT IS SLOW. riot isn't even trying to hide that they want veigar in the dumpster while many champions with crazy abilities only get a tiny slap on the wrist because riot doesn't want to ruin them.

I've seen a bunch of people complain about Veigar, but seriously he needed it. His old Event Horizon was grossly overpowered. It was an ultimate ability on a 15 second cooldown or whatever. It absolutely ruined teamfights and it made Veigar horribly binary. Did you land your stun? Blow up target. Did you miss? Run away or die. He was boring and couldn't be buffed because he'd become way too overbearing. Now that it's actually possible to dodge his stun, he can start being buffed again.

Not to mention people are QQing about one of the best teamfight abilities in the game. It's gross at separating and just causing general havoc for the other team. If your teams are even close to equal, a well-placed Event Horizon should seal the fight every time.

1 or 2 MR items, QSS, banshees veil, merc scim, any long range poke(veigar has zero sustain whatsoever, he has one of the lowest health pools in the game, 2 spears or jayce shots and veigar is completely out of the fight) any sort of long range landed CC, leona ult, nautalis ult, blitz hook, thresh hook. MERC TREDS zed/talon/leblanc/ryze/fizz (no sorry these champions didnt exist and totaly didn't ruin his day"

veigar stun had numerous counters and checks, people refused to play and use them. getting veigar big is no different than a 40min + nasus, yet you people dont get nasus is extremely more reliable and useful in competitive play.

People only refused to use the counters because Riot trained them that the only valid counterplay is dodging shit.

I don' think that's the case, even Morello came out and said the changes weren't suppose to be a nerf.

The big problem over all, as much I hate to say it, Veigar needs an entire re-work.

You can't just make his stun have a delay without changing his W. Those are basically the same skills. That's why alot of people got mad too, the fact that his Dark Matter(W) was left untouched. The stun was a big thing, his Q got changed to a skill shot didn't help, but W staying the same was the final nail in his coffin.
