Is ranked shit atm, or is it just me?

Long story short, I've gone from ~1800 mmr on op.gg to 1538 in a matter of a few weeks. I maintained that 1800 for nearly 3 or 4 months (I hit plat in July and bounced between plat 4 and 5 for the duration of the summer and up until about 2 or 3 weeks ago). And it's not like I'm just having bad games. In fact, I do well in a majority of them. But it seems like the skill level is waaaay down from this summer. People are feeding relentlessly, and it happens on both teams (it just seems that RNJesus hates me atm). There just wasn't anything I could've done to change the outcome of the vast majority of these games.

My question is this: is this simply due to end-of-season bullshit? Are the unranked casuals and the boosted animals that have all but stopped playing ranked since they hit their goals coming out to try for one last push for season rewards? I know that end-of-season ranked gets chaotic and pretty stressful, but this is so much worse than anything I've experienced in my past 5 years playing this game. Is anyone else seeing this, or is it just me?

If atm refers to season 6 as a whole then yes. While dynamic eligibility has been toned down a lot of players are still "securing" their boosted elo by playing when necessary but I too have experienced a lot of garbage roaming ranked lately. Maybe players want to play before it draws to is end forgetting that they are actually a lot worse than their profile depicts.

Yes, season 6 was a fkin clown fiesta, but it's especially bad this month.

Players want to reach as high as possible before the season ends and are often flustrated that they cant climb so they try some wierd things or rage and flame thier teams. Others are fine with thier spot so they dont even try to play at decent level.

Its the same at the end of every season, get used to this.

i regularly play against smurfs that have 80-90% winrate nowdays. end season boosting.

Maybe break higher than 50% on junglers, instead of blaming your team. You play jungle mainly, but complain that your team is the reason you're losing. Maybe learn how to do your job instead of investing time blaming everyone else. item 3070 item 2050

Interesting. Other than zac (which I rather recently picked up, and who suffered worst from the phenomenon I'm describing) please show me which of my junglers has a lower than 50% win ratio. Kindly show yourself out, and please delete your overtly incorrect comment when you leave.

Also, if you read my post, I already said that this is not something I can fix. When a player goes 1/10 or worse in a plat level game, there really is no way that you can win, regardless of how I "do my job". There just isn't. Perhaps if you had any experience with higher level games you might be qualified to comment on these matters.

It's crap right now, at least down here in silver. I mean, it's usually pretty bad in silver, but lately it's been nigh unplayable.

It's just you. My ranked games have not changed at the end of the season. If you're doing well in the majority of them, you would be winning more than losing.

You're basically saying what has been debunked over and over again: "I deserve a higher rank but I get unlucky with teams!"

MonkeyMadness1 votes

Read my post kid. Not once did I even imply that I deserve a higher rank. In fact, I went great length to show empirical proof that I belong exactly where I am (that would be fluctuating between plat 4 and 5 for the past 3 or 4 months). There was a sudden shift in ranked game quality at about the start of the month (which coincided with the teaser for victorious maokai) and it has seen me losing a great deal of games in a very uncharacteristic manner. Please read before you spew your overtly incorrect bullshit all over someone else's post.

Edit: Let me also point out that I am very much aware of the fact that "the trolls, etc are more likely to be on the enemy team". However, as I said in the OP, it seems that I'm just getting unlucky atm, and most of my games place me with these players rather than against them. My sample size is not large enough to constitute a statistically significant grouping, so this is entirely feasible. If you do not understand this concept, kindly do not respond, as your uninformed opinion does not contribute in any way to this discussion. Thank you.

Ranked integrity is ass right now + people tryna get their end of s rewards/highest rank they can achieve.

It's got really bad this month.

I guess it's that end of season rush?

I've seen tons of unbalanced games, flaming in nearly every game, and an insane number of trolls (I've seen three just on my team on the last week.)

Many games feel completely one-sided, either where you can't win no matter how hard you try, or you just coast to victory without having to try too hard - depending on which team happens to be well-coordinated in that particular game.

The fact that everyone brings out the least fun-to-play-against champions to try to make that final push makes it even less fun (for me, at least.)

Ranked has been terrible the entire season thanks to Dynamic que.

Agreed, but it has been especially bad for the past few weeks.

Its the end of the season. Ends of season are very, very bad for ranked play. The quality of matches will degrade considerably. The talented players have already achieved what they wanted to, they won't even be playing. The scrubs are desperate to rank up for the rewards, and they are trying any and every random thing. The kids who played during the summer all day, every day, are in school now and play much much worse when they play because they no longer have the same amount of practice time, boosters are doing last minute boostings, the "gatekeepers" come out in force at the end of seasons, trolls are far more prevalent.

Basically you don't want to play ranked the first month of the season for a huge number of reasons that decreased the quality of matches. The same is true for the last month of seasons as well. You play ranked from basically March through September realistically. The best time to play ranked is preaseason. You will have the highest quality matches and most consistent teammate performance in the preseason excluding the two weeks around Christmas. Pretty much the only people who bother trying to play ranked in the preseason are the dedicated ranked players as they inflate their MMR before the reset to make the reset hurt them less.

Yes, ik, but I've never seen it get this bad and I've been in the mad rush to gold at this time in previous seasons.

Meh, its mostly seeming the same for me. Just really poor quality play in general across the board. About the only portion of the ladder that plays better in this time frame are those in diamond 1 looking to get into master at the very end of the season. Every other point on the ladder becomes even more of a clown fiesta than usual.

Ya and that makes sense, but it's gotten to the point where my games are so bad that I simply cannot carry, regardless of what I'm playing or how well I'm doing. Even when DQ was at the peak of ruining solo player agency, I never felt such a loss of control of my own ranking.

Well what are you doing to combat the RNG factor of the ladder? If you aren't proactive about avoiding trolls, tilted players, premades with terrible win rates, first time champs in ranked, bad team compositions or any number of other things that are typically outside your ability to control when in game then you aren't really trying to climb, you're just playing games willy nilly.

Are you dodging when you should be dodging?

Are you using a duo partner to eliminate one roster spot a troll can take?

Are you using your duo's dodges when you are in promos?

Part of climbing is using proper climbing technique and applying all these little tricks. Its not just about playing consistently, its about the positions you consistently put yourself in. If you allow RNG to be a bigger factor than it could be its going to hurt you in the short term. Its particularly important to apply proper climbing technique at the ends of season when the ladder becomes this chaotic.

I don't use duo because I don't have friends at this level, also I believe that duoing kinda dilutes the integrity of the ladder. Also, I refuse to have that boosted animal logo on my profile. I don't dodge because that's fucked up, and most of the time, these problem players are not admitting to trolling/feeding in chat. The point of RNG is that it is random, and if you feel the need to manipulate it, then that points to a much deeper problem.

Well, the fact of the matter is that there IS a much deeper problem with the ranked ladder. It uses a system that actually doesn't, can't. and never will perform its intended function. Its mostly just a headache and you can cut out about 75% of the total games you would have to play by applying those little tricks to manipulate the system. If you don't its a grindfest and it will take about 500-1000 games to reach an accurate ranking. Which is just way to much of a time investment for me when I can mange it in 15-20% of that total number just by eliminating as much of the RNG as is possible by using op.gg to check on my teammates, dodging when I need to, and always using a duo for the extra dodge and troll spot elimination in promos.

No point spending a whole season doing something I can manage in about 2 weeks if I do it the right way.
