[Discussion] Yorick Builds

So I have been messing around with Yorick builds recently, you see I was doing the whole Grasp of the Undying rush TriForce that i see everyone doing and it wasn't working for me. So I tried Thunderlords, but that didn't work so well. I also tried Deathfire, but honestly I will need to do more testing on that one. Then I tried Warlord's Bloodlust. Man this mastery is so much fun, it turns Yorick into an unkillable monster mid game, like 1v5 status sustain raid boss.

What is your opinion on the best Keystone Mastery for Yorick? Mine is that Warlord's Bloodlust is the best, it turns him into sustain god Yorick and I believe his Mist Walkers also proc it.

This is my build and I have been having so much fun with it: item 3812 item 3078 item 3009 item 3742 item 3065 item 3026

item 2033 or item 1055 for starters depends on what I feel like buying tbh.

Then I try to get a item 3057 on my first back, but if I can't i will get item 1036 which i turn into a item 1053.

If i got the sheen I will start building towards item 3812 , if not I will just build item 3133.

For boots I get item 3009 normally, but if they have a lot of hard CC i will go item 3111 .

After I finish Death's Dance, I will finish item 3078 or sometimes I will get an early item 1031 or item 3211

If i finished Tri, i build item 3742 or item 3065 next depending on who I am facing or who is fed. I will build whatever I didn't build next.

Then I finish out my build with item 3026 and if it ever goes down i will temp substitute it with item 3053 .

If I can finish Death's Dance and Triforce and then one of the two tank items, I am basically unstoppable. They will need to send 4 or 5 people to stop me and even then they might lose 1 or 2 and a turret. It is absolutely ridiculous how much sustain he has with this build and Warlords. I just don't like Grasp and rushing TriForce, like getting Sheen is important, but without Death's Dance I feel totally useless in a 1v1 or 1v2. Once I get it, I can push all day and not care at all what they do.

For skill order I do R>Q>E>W but if I am against someone who I can't get close to I max E before Q, this is rare though.

If I am against a tough match-up I tend to just sit back and farm, always staying near 3-4 graves. I try to freeze wave near to my turret so that if they ever go in on me, i can W and run back to my turret. However if I am against someone who can't do anything to me, I go ham all game lol.

What builds have you tried that have been working well for you? Try to be detailed so I can understand why you are building something :)

A new strategy me and my friend came up with is to force my opponent out of lane, stack up 4 Mist Walkers, pop my ult and go 2-man Baron at 20ish minutes. We took it down in less than a minute and he lost only about 30% of his HP. He was Vi so i guess a bruiser champion that can dish out damage like Vi or Xin would work great with this strat. You just gotta make sure you remove any wards and know where the enemy jungler is.

When we did this, i immediately 1v3'd their Nasus, Leona, and Lee, killed Nasus and Leona took 2 turrets and my friend killed Lux which lead to an inhib and a Nexus Turret at 25 minutes. Our bot lane also used Baron to take 2 turrets and mid lane 1 turret. So this cost them 4 kills and 6 turrets and an inhib.

it won't work every time id imagine but when it does, it can be super strong. I wasn't even fed at this point either, was like 2/3/1 or something.

I got 3 mist walkers and took them to Rift Herald, then ult'd. Solo'd the rift herald while my team was engaged in 4v5. Everyone on the map heard the global scream and didn't believe I did it. xD

Yea Maiden is so good at taking objectives, I am going to try and see if I can solo baron at 20 minutes lol

Best of luck

Why build ER without any more Crit Chance? If I am remembering correctly it gives you CDR based on Crit Chance right? Otherwise its a standard a build but the boots lol you don't upgrade them?

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

boots are subjective per game

and the ER is to give you some cdr, some crit he isnt a crit dependent champ but when he would crit it would be a nice bonus damage

but with item 3025 item 3508 gives 30% cdr and enough mana and mana regen to be able to use abilities with out worrying to much about running out of mana

item 3053 gives 25% base ad bonus which would work on the sheen proc from item 3025 which gives +100% bonus damaeg based on base ad so it increases your base ad making the sheen proc bonus damage on next auto stronger

alternative could be item 3025 item 3748 item 3053 and item 3053 has synergy with both items

Why not substitute ER with DD? They give the same amount of CDR and Yorick actually uses the passive plus it has synergy with Visage. Black Cleaver gives 20% CDR and apparently his ghouls can use the passive as well, plus it gives him a MS boost which works well with Iceborn. I am not bashing your build, just trying to work out the best items on him, if I build an item I want to know why its better than other items.

Yup I know the sterak's + sheen interaction, I don't build steraks because I don't need it and prefer GA.

you get more HP and getting item 3065 item 3068 makes the resistances better with the added HP

and you can get item 3812 but it dont offer any mana regen item 3508 also has crit

That is true, i don't build him tanky though I build him Juggernaut/Bruiser. My goal is damage and sustain, not tank because I don't think he is a great tank. What is your playstyle? Do you push one lane or teamfight often? I generally just push all game, because I don't think he is the best teamfighter, but perhaps that is just because my playstyle is different than yours?

I see your point honestly, but I personally don't think the 20% Crit Chance and miniscule mana regen is worth an item slot over something like DD or Bloodthirster or BC. However whatever works for you is great, I love that we are playing the same champ but have 2 different builds :)

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

black clever isnt ideal on him due to not applying alot of autos

unless his creeps apply the passive armor pen stacks

Stephenizgod1 votes

Apparently they do, but I want to test that one out for myself before I make a definitive opinion on it

This is mine: item 3071 item 3047 item 3072 item 3022 item 3742 item 3512

BC because ghouls shred armor. Bloodthirster: ghouls proc lifesteal. Yes they do, I builded DD before too. They are core for me, the rest depends on match

Stephenizgod1 votes

You think Bloodthirster works better than Death's Dance? I like DD because of the CDR and i don't build a lot of AD so pure lifesteal doesn't seem like it works too well.

I was not aware that his Mist Walkers applied BC's passive! Oh my that seems like an item I should be buying now >:D Although it would mean wasting the passive if i also got Triforce which i think is amazing on him.

His ghouls don't apply Frozen Mallet so I don't personally like that item on him. Its got good stats for him, but I like to focus on my ghouls.

I don't know about that. I played against somebody who ran that sort of build against me and even though I got rekt in lane he couldn't do anything in teamfights.

Stephenizgod1 votes

It is not a great teamfighting build to be honest, its meant for smaller skirmishes like 1v3's or 2v3's. Your goal with this build is to create a ton of pressure in another lane, you want 2 or 3 people to come after you because that leaves the other 2 lanes or Baron/Dragon open. It struggles when your team is not proactive, if they are just sitting around doing nothing you will probably end up feeding pretty bad.

Yorick in general is not the best at teamfighting, in my opinion, because he is so reliant on his Mist Walkers and his E. If you throw out your E and it hits 3 people, they go after the closest person I believe, which makes it hard to control his MWs and Maiden. He can do it, specially since his W is so good at separating teams and forces their focus on it instead of your team. Still no reason to pick him over a better teamfighting champion, if that is your goal.

EDIT: It also appears that guy was not familiar with Yorick and was trying out various builds. Its also worth noting that Yorick bullies Nasus pretty hard with Mist Walkers until Nasus has about 250 stacks and can basically 1-shot them. So you losing in lane is not a surprise during laning phase, specially if your Jungler never ganked.

CotC proc's with a well landed W. Few people seem to understand it or know it works. Helps for going in as the juggernaut Yorick was meant to be.

I go the route of item 3078 item 3111 item 3512 item 3053 item 3065 then item 3143 or item 3026

Stephenizgod1 votes

You are talking about spawning the W under them so it displaces them right? Because I have thought of that, but wasn't sure if it would actually proc it.

Yea that is a standard Yorick build although it is light on armor, do you not go item 3742 ? Its pretty good at chasing or escaping. Have you tried going Sustain God Yorick? I recommend at least trying it a couple times, it is really fun when you can 1v3 under their turret :D

Yes and no. It proc's either way, unless I'm horribly mistaken. Either way, with his weird/short-ranged cast I end up displacing anyways. With regards to deadmans, I have used it. I forgot to put it in the comment. It's situational to me. I don't think I've used it my last few games, but it's definitely a great item for him. Landing your E on people is another mini-gap closer, don't forget. :D

Is Sustain God Yorick the whole death's dance hype? I never understood it seeing as I guess I'm "traditional" in sticking to triforce. Honestly, split push yorick is perfect for me in low elo. All I have to do it split and take towers asap.

Stephenizgod1 votes

If it procs on just landing the W I would think that is a bug because it is not hard CC. The only way I can see it actually activating is if you actually displace them with the wall itself.

Well his E isn't that great of a gap closer, because it is a 30% slow for 2 seconds. He has no MS boost and no quick mobility so its more for his Mist Walkers to stick to their target. With Deadman's though there is no way they can escape him, it also allows him to get close enough to place his W wherever he wants without risking them breaking out before he gets there. Its a core item for the way I play him along with Triforce and Death's Dance ( although I am considering changing it to Bloodthirster and Black Cleaver).

Sustain God Yorick still builds Triforce and you still split push for the most part. Your Mist Walkers and Maiden both apply Lifesteal so with 4 Mist Walkers, Maiden, and yourself you get a ton of Lifesteal. With Triforce your Q's will hit like a ton of bricks and heal you for a crap ton, it makes fighting him in a 1v1 damn near impossible (unless you are way more fed than him). Sustain God Yorick is capable of dueling 2 or 3 people easily, I do it quite often and most of the time I kill at least 2 of them before I back off or they retreat. You still split push because I think generally Yorick is just not a great teamfight champion, he is just too reliant on his E to direct his Maiden and ghouls and that is hard to do when you hit 2 or 3 people with Morning Mist. Your goal is to force several enemy champions to come stop you, you can either dick around with them and keep them there or just straight kill them, depends on how fed you are and if you have your Maiden.

Could you go into detail on the buying of DD? I'd like to continue rushing Triforce and ZZrot, but would love to fit DD in there somewhere. Also, I was reading through yorick mains and have read a lot that BC isn't the best or reliable on Yorick since his damage isn't all AA/AS based.

Stephenizgod1 votes

I go sheen then into Death's Dance, I tend to rely almost entirely on my Ghouls at first so i don't really need Triforce immediately. If I am not getting poked or attacked alot I will get item 3133 for the CDR, but if I am trading a lot I get item 1053. I pretty much never buy the pickaxe because i don't need the AD, or at least in my opinion. You want to get it early on so you can duel your lane opponent before they are capable of 1-shotting your ghouls. Later on you need to buy tank to compliment the DD so you can actually survive long enough to sustain. Visage is a must buy if you go sustain, it boosts his sustain and also gives HP.

I need to test BC out for myself before i make a judgement on it.
