Its about time Riot, We have to know if You're serious about the Solo queue system! [In Game Voice]

Every competitive game has voice chat within their ranked games... I don't see why League doesn't have it?

  • Counterstrike
  • DOTA 2
  • HoTS
  • WoW

Is league of legends not serious enough about their competitive scene that they can neglect voice chat?

I hate to sound like an asshole when I make fun of "people on boards" but seriously, If someone is toxic on chat they're gonna be toxic on mic aswell. Just mute / ignore them like you would to anyone. but at least you'll have 3 other people minus that one toxic guy to TALK to.

And to the objection where you think it would just be distracting / hard to concentrate... I dont know what to tell you but people in pro scene need a way to talk anyways so they do it on Teamspeak / vent / skype / raidcall / whatever! It doesn't matter but the thing people are neglecting is that Communication in competitive ranked games shouldn't be judged as harshly as the LP system we have in place without there being a commuication method such as Push to Talk.

Remember - Push to talk, not voice capture. Not everyone will hear your mom / wife / brother / sister in the background... you just push to say "mid mia" / "jungle @ red" whatever it needs to be then its done.

ANYONE who doesn't think Voice chat is a necessity has me dumbfounded.

TL:DR - Talking through voice chat would be OPTIONAL, and hearing people would be defaulted with the option to mute people.

To be honest, having to type at times when I also need to be casting spells, which requires the keyboard to cast fast enough, can be very problematic when trying to coordinate something instead of just pinging and hoping everyone understood you. The ability for an opt-in voice chat system would be very helpful.

The only requirement is that is VoIP system needs to be very efficient having low data use, high speed, and good quality. If it uses too much bandwidth, it could cause problems with the game, if the latency is too long it will be worthless, and if everyone sounds like they are from the 40s, even with a good mic, everyone will ignore it. It isn't an easy task, but if Riot is serious on making League of Legends cohesive experience that doesn't require third party programs, they will need to implement it.

Counter Point: A possible reason Riot hasn't done this is because it will make the tribunal and reporting system exponentially harder since they would have to record the voice chat from every game and either play it back for the reviewer, taking up possibly the whole duration of the match, or try and convert it to text which can be often wrong.

i don't think VoIP's in this day and age have a problem with being efficient at consuming bandwidth. But yes, i do agree nothing should be crazy over the top, im talking about simple push to talk VoIP.

And to counter your counter point, they dont use the tribunal... if you get a certain amount of reports within a time frame you just get chat banned for X amount of games. So the same would be applied here.

Also id like to add that they wouldn't record voices during games in order to have information to go back to when someone gets reported simply because they haven't added replays to the game yet!

This is not true. A certain number of reports in a period of time triggers your account for riots review. This game does not automatically punish you for being toxic.

And before you say "Oh well my friend was reported and he instantly got punished" More likely what happened was riot flagged his account for previous grievances, and he continued to get reported.

Phife1 votes

Sorry to burstyour bubble but each and every report doesn't get filtered through by Riot personally. After a certain number of reports you just get chat banned, after you've been banned a certain # of times your account gets flagged then sent to Riot for review for a possible perma ban.

And those numbers are within the .05 percentile.

Sorry to burst your bubble but.. https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/203259670-Ranked-Restrictions

Specifically says "When a player meets the minimum threshold for number of reports and confirmed chat offenses in any game mode, the ranked queue will be locked for that player. The ranked queue will not be available again until the player wins a certain number of normal games without offenses. Once the number of required normal games have been completed, the player can continue playing ranked games as usual."

Chat Restrictions and Ranked Restrictions are both caused by the same thing – toxic tendencies that are detected through reports and confirmed chat offenses. However, Ranked Restrictions have a higher threshold for punishment. It takes more reports and more evidence of toxicity to be ranked restricted. A player can be chat restricted without being ranked restricted.

Bolded and italicized the important parts for you.

After a certain number of reports your account gets flagged for review. They then review the games you were toxic in and set another flag on your account that gives you "one last chance" before you're finally kicked to the curb. Be it chat ban or ranked ban.

Phife1 votes

It doesn't say anywhere that each report is being looked through for validation. Lmao, stop kidding your self.

Nilok1 votes

Actually, it says after you have been flagged, that is exactly what they do. Otherwise there would be no way to confirm it.

Secondly, the Tribunal is returning soon, so that needs to be taken into account, especially since it will be also used to give out rewards to honored players instead of just punishments.

I'm glad we agree on the rest of their process now. The Tribunal was just a fancy version of Riot's internal reporting system made public.

Dota2's voice chat was one of the reasons that I didn't enjoy it much. It felt too much like Cod lobbies all over again.

Phife1 votes

Did you play Dota 2 at a competitive level? Not just play ranked casually every now and then, did you take it seriously?

I can't take a game where you're free to quit as you please without consequences, seriously.

Also, if you play it competitivly then sure, but League is functioning extremly well enough without people with shitty mics and their chaotic households.

Phife1 votes

Like ive said in the post, the natural assumption is that if someone has a bad mic or a chaotic household, the feature would be push to talk so its selective, if the problem still persists then you can always tell the person in chat their mic is blocking communication and it would be better in their case to type it out.

I play a lot of CS:GO and i've played my fair share of HoN, I also used to play arenas in WoW at 2300PR, so i can say that communication can make the slightest difference and without it being a factor in ranked solo queue play, i cant see how Riot thinks the LP system is fair.

Sure it works, but time and time again problems rise at late game even more so now with a tank meta, games usually go for 50mins and at that point in the game, if 1 person steps out of line and the other team kills them there goes 3 inhibs and a baron... Do you understand what im saying?

Angry Monster2 votes

No, cause all those competitive scenes use 3rd party alternatives anyways. Sure their non public games have voice but that does not mean anything for competitive play. Riot assumes for organized 5s that you use a voice software.

Phife1 votes

Like I said, "I would like to know if Riot is serious about SOLO QUEUE"

Angry Monster1 votes

Your question does not mean voice is a must.

Phife1 votes

Seriousness = Voice comms

Angry Monster1 votes

False statement or opinionated, either way not relevent

The Queen Viper1 votes

yoloQ has never meant to be serious bro... that's not even what this game is about.

It's all about the ranked teams baby.

Phife1 votes

Sorry to let you down but Thats Esports, theres about 50 million other users who dont play ranked 5s.

The Queen Viper1 votes

Well that's their problem though... ranked teams is where the competitive scene is at.

Phife1 votes

I dont understand what you mean by "not competitive"....

Axests2 votes

If you give me the option to turn off voice chat outside of game so i don't have to deal with 10 year old kids (i realize they can't help their age but i just don't do well with them) and douchbags i'm fine with you having your...thing

Phife1 votes

Like i've said, It would be optional to talk, but you would be forced to HEAR people, UNLESS you mute them all.

Phife1 votes

I wish people would just leave a simple comment, so i dont have to look like an ass

Phife1 votes

lmao, why am i being downvoted for asking about Riots intent behind solo queue?

Arcade Andrew1 votes

And what about systems in place to prevent losses for afks. trolls. feeders ect. (a system that would know the difference between a troll/ feeder and somebody just having a bad game, aswell as preventing losses for afks and would know if its being abused or not)

Phife1 votes

What does that have to do with a VoIP system?

The Queen Viper1 votes

{quoted}

I don't see why League doesn't have it?

Because we don't need it.

Firstly, we already have so many 3rd party programs which people can use if they want to, the most accessible being Curse Voice.

Secondly, there's no point whatsoever to develop a in-game voice chat just for the yoloQ, since you don't even need VOIP in yoloQ. Not to mention it would also be inconsistent there since there would be people who would use it and people who wouldn't.

Thirdly, it would be impossible to monitor.

{quoted} Is league of legends not serious enough about their competitive scene that they can neglect voice chat?

What do you mean exactly? You seriously think that yoloQ has something to do with the competitive scene? Plz no, just no bro. If you want to talk about competitive scene, it's all about the ranked 5vs5 teams where people are already using different VOIP programs, so your suggestion doesn't even concern them or competitive scene at all.

{quoted} Just mute / ignore them like you would to anyone. but at least you'll have 3 other people minus that one toxic guy to TALK to.

You don't need to talk to random yoloQ players, but if you really have to, we don't need a VOIP for that... we already have chat and pings. Muting people in VOIP and in chat would just add more nuisance to the game.

{quoted} ANYONE who doesn't think Voice chat is a necessity has me dumbfounded.

It definitely is NOT, when it comes to yoloQ ... in competitive scene, people already use VOIP. You suggestion is useless. Also, you should check these out before making posts like these:

The fact you keep calling it YoloQ to disassociate it with being a competitive ranked queue is the reason i won't reply to your comment in depth.

The Queen Viper1 votes

It's not competitive bro.

Phife1 votes

umm, you must be bronze.

The Queen Viper1 votes

Nope, look again.

Why do you think Ranked solo queue is a non competitive environment? Isn't everyone striving to do their best and get to the top?

5 people versus 5 people > competition?

Its like the old "Hardcore vs Softcore" in ARPG debate. To people in "Softcore" (EX: Solo que) it's very much competetive. To people who play 5v5 teams, or who are devout followers of the "pro scene", solo Q isnt competetive.

In a way it's true. This is a team game. When you que up solo you're literally rolling the dice to see whether or not the people on your team are actually good (or the enemy team is bad in some instances).

Facy1 votes

Rework the damn elo system Riot still has and just copy the 1 HotS has... there we go soloQ is much more enjoyable now and people will use hacks much less.

Seeing this community being the most toxic one i was ever a part from im totally against a voicechat, it simply wont work with this amount of shitty people.

Phife1 votes

I don't know what the hell you are talking about, for the 6 years i've played this game i have never seen a hacker...

I believe that with the right tools (VoIP) this community can be great.

For the longest time (and probably still) there were programs that would help you aim/predict skill shots.

Phife1 votes

I have never heard of those even being used. Im sure they exist but ive never experienced one in my games, ive played over 5000 games on 3 different accounts.

BringYourOwnPuma1 votes

A simple google search would bring up two different hacks in the first three search results. Granted this was a couple of years ago. They existed and it's pretty obvious when someone is using them. I've probably encountered it 3-4 times myself in the past

Phife1 votes

3 or 4 games out of how ever many games is so little, its completely irrelevant of what we're talking about.

Facy1 votes

There are a shitload of people that are using the new drophacks (i know drophacks beeing around for years but i meant the newer version of them). Its a real pain on EUW... way too easy to get those and people are more and more frustrated with the shitty ranked system so they use it.... and then people get mad at the people using it and use the hacks themselfes to make it ''fair'' in their eyes...

Just a EUW thing if u say u never encouterd scripts or drophacks....

BringYourOwnPuma1 votes

The last thing I need is some 13 year old child screaming at the team Call of Duty style because he thinks he's gods gift to league of legends.

You can say its "optional" but it really won't be. It'll become the defacto communication method. And people who want to preserve sanity will keep it muted, and thus miss out on tactical stuff (People -will- stop pinging even more than they already dont do. No one will read chat or bother typing once voice is put in).

Also - There already is a voice system designed for league of legends. It's called Curse Voice, and it's much more optional than something Riot would introduce.

And as mentioned in other posts, it'll become nearly impossible to report toxic players for being toxic if they're shouting at you over voice.

Phife1 votes

Its optional to speak in Dota2 and CS:GO... why would the nature of it be any different for league? If someones annoying just mute and move on, chances are that same guy would have trolled your game either way, even if you didnt have a voice chat going on.

Optional to SPEAK. Yet not optional to listen (unless i mute everyone.. Which would mean I would have ZERO communication with my team).

That way I can speak to the flamers who are flaming with only chat and see how tall they truly are! Yeah I think it would make me more toxic, that or laugh even more in ranked because people are funny lol I am the fire that will cure the worlds problems of humanit- OH a nickle! Brand
