@Riot have you thought of making some channel spells drain the mana over the channel instead of on c

Basically when a champion has an ability that is channeled(typically ultimates) they have the same mana cost as live but drain the mana over the channel duration.

I'm talking champions skills such as Karthus R, Jhin R draining mana with each shot, Malzahar R, and Galio R.

I do not mean channels such as Fiddlesticks Drain or Velkoz R(maybe make Velkoz R work with the drain mana thing). If fiddle W could be draining the mana over time he would be god tier.

The big question, why? Well it would help those champs if their channels got interrupted almost immediately which would result in a huge amount of mana wasted for nothing. Karthus R is the best example.

But if we were to do this with Jhins R how it would work on him is half the mana cost on cast and the other half divided into his 4 shots.

I'm a VELKOZ main so I'm a bit bias but I think that it's a great idea. It would help save mana for the channeled abilities that are interrupted.

a interrupted ability is basically a "missed" ability. Next they will want the mana cost be effective once the spell hits something instead of in cast

You know, I always wanted to toy with the Idea of Mana costs being a lot more Variable. But I think the bigger issue is balance. In the argument with Velkoz. It could give him power in areas where he should theoretically be oom. And that can be a huge problem with game health.

I bring this up, because I recalled an iteration of Darius, where his Ult's mana cost scaled down with rank, all the way to 0. Never left the PBE, Riot realized that would give him significant power while OOM, they instead implemented a Mana Refund to his ult instead.

It may also be problematic with the new mana items, which can refund mana.
