Is there any solid evidence that the game has gotten easier over time?

I'm seeing this claim made frequently, but I never see any real evidence for it.

No, anecdotes like "I went 7/0 on riven first time, game is ez now" do not count.

EDIT: or that it's less strategic?

I think maybe it's easier to snowball and get fed if you play it very well, but on average a smart player won't die more than once or twice in lane unless getting camped. I think those claims are pretty bogus tbh

skillshots are far more noobie-friendly in terms of playing vs

not so much to play as most of the time but that's mostly cuz Riot doesn't do it right

and the reverse of that is that so much point and click is gone

Evidence is in the patch notes

-More passive gold -Runes added to the game mean that % wise items matter less in overall champion's power level -Towers got buffed -Jungle got easier -Timers were added to the game -Dragon got nerfed , used to give a ton of gold / exp -Crutch cones and plants added everywhere to make the game easier to navigate -Minions are worth less gold, just focus on getting the cannons -Trinkets given free to everyone instead of having to purchase individual wards -Supports got super buffed -First blood got nerfed -Red potion cheese got removed -Red buff health regeneration added to the game -Smite healing when using it on jungle creeps -Smite cooldown lowered -Using smite correctly on jungle creeps removed -Smite can now be used on champions -Baron buff got stronger -Bounties stacking up to 1000 gold and then carrying over the rest -Ninja tabis got buffed -Mana costs were lowered, mana items made better / more abundant -Cooldown reduction was added to majority of the items -Complicated rune system removed making the game easier -Pretty much all the minion changes that ever happened (less damage, less gold, etc) -Removed the mastery tree -When you get executed you don't lose your buff anymore (LUL) -Death timers were reduced -Kill exp reduced -Doran shield buffed ridiculously -Catch up EXP added to jungle creeps to prevent counterjungling being too effective -Exp range increased

And lastly -Damage increased so high via the runes and god knows what else, to the point where the game became much less skill and strategy based instead it's very reaction based (whoever hits the buttons first wins)

I don't see how roughly 90% of those make the game easier to play

-Dragon got nerfed , used to give a ton of gold / exp

I don't see how you can see the changes to drakes doing anything BUT buffing dragon.

-Minions are worth less gold, just focus on getting the cannons

On the flipside, it's much easier to deny your enemy large amounts of gold by forcing them off of just one minion. In lane you have to intelligently fight around cannon minions.

-Red buff health regeneration added to the game

don't see how this made the game easier

-Mana costs were lowered, mana items made better / more abundant

you forgot that they changed Morellonomicon, AKA the "I never need to refill my mana bar" item.

-Complicated rune system removed making the game easier

there was nothing complex about the old rune system, other than learning to dodge noob trap runes. The current rune system is much more complex IMO because it forces you to think about what runes synergize with your champion effectively, which ones don't, and which runes fit your playstyle and which ones don't.

Back in my day Dragon gave 250 gold and and about 600 EXP globally, that was insane for snowballing so yeah, these "increased health regen" or "increased damage to towers" etc dragons are just a joke compared to that.

It's much harder to deny the enemy large amounts of gold by forcing them off of cannon because they will save their long range skill just to grab it or spend mana to take it

If you don't see how red buff healing you makes the jungling easier then that's on you

You forgot they added mana to Luden's Echo, and Morellonomicon now costs 1300g and is called Lost Chapter

Old rune system was pretty complex, I used to have 20 rune pages for different champions, and different situations, ranging from scaling runes, to defensive runes, to just pure damage runes etc, right now you pick your champion and mindlessly select his runes (with a few variations here and there) because every champion has runes best suited for him no matter what scenario

Btw the 5 points you listed are hardly 90% of however many points I wrote

Well, duh. That's because you listed like 25 points. I have shit to do in my life.

You did not convince me at all because very few of the things you listed made the game easier to play, they just changed the game. I can't convince you otherwise, though. you're going to have to try harder.
