So since Kalista is going to be 100% immune to melee champions

FalconPawwwwnch··102 votes·16,786 views

Just take a guess what lane she'll be abused in.

I like how Riot isn't even trying to hide it either, clip in Spotlight where Shyvana loses 3/4 health without even touching Kalista and Kalista didn't even have a red buff lol.

Seriously how did this go through testing? This would be like a melee champion's passive being "Takes 100% reduced damage from ranged autoattacks"

But I digress, Riot always avoids threads that calls out their blatant ranged bias

shes the LITERAL definition of mobility creep i can just picture a bunch of dumbasses at riot are having a contest to see who can design and get into the game a champ with the most mobility lets call them "dip" and "shit"

DIP: hey look shit i just got this guy kassadin he has a flash for a ult that has twice the range of flash and only a marginal CD.

SHIT: oh yea? i got this guy called lee sin where he has TWO sources of mobility both with short ass CD's and broken values,oh and hes a energy champion so he has 0 mana issues

DIP: OH YEA! i got this dumb bitch called kalista coming up and she can dash with her auto-attacks TOP THAT!

shit has yet to top dip as of yet

Having played her extensively on the PBE, I can assure you her auto attack animation at lvl 1 is INSANELY slow, and her dash is quite short.

With high attack speed and full boots she can jump around yes, but early game she's easy prey for the melee'est of champions.

Even late game with perfect mechanics, she doesn't move much faster than a vayne doing the same thing, since her auto attacks root her until they're done. In the end it evens out, but just changes her movement from run->run to stop->dash->stop->dash.

As someone who likes playing melee champs, I saw that spotlight and got sick to my stomach. There's no way you'd be able to touch her without targeted CC. Can you imagine someone trying to land a Lux Morgana snare on her in a fight? I hope Riot buffs Taric just to combat this bitch because she is WAY too mobile for a marksman.

Did you forget about Ryze, bro? He's everyone's favorite champ to complain about. Not saying he's not ridiculously strong, but people seem to complain about Ryze more than they do about Gnar.

Thank CertainlyT for his release abominations. He shouldn't have a job anymore, he has no idea what balance is.

Remlap122320 votes

As much as I think it's tasteless to bash a certain Rioter, history hasn't proven well for him. All 5 champions that he has released have been little more than a project to keep Morello busy.

Direwolfiez17 votes

I was one of the few people that defended RiotScruffy after the Skarner and Rengar reworks, yet I can't find it in myself to defend, or even sympathize with, CertainlyT. He's repeatedly shown himself incapable of adding champs to the game that make the game fun for everyone involved and don't ridiculously unbalance it at the same time. Every champ he's made requires ridiculously hard nerfs just to make it fair to play against them, and even then they're still pretty strong afterwards.

I don't think he actually balances the champs he makes...

Tempered Salute5 votes

This is true, but he doesn't consider how op the kit is. The numbers are put in based on projections based on the surroundings. He obviously don't use such philosophy when making kits and instead continues to push them forward to make other champs obscure.

RoyaiChaos12 votes

Well I'm pretty sure it goes through the balance team, who could have easily denied something they thought was too op. It's not fair for him to get the entire blame. His job is to create unique and cool champion kits (which he does), not to make sure they're balanced. Saying that he should lose his job is going to far.

Butthurt11 votes

I think he's a genius, he makes amazingly designed champions. What they need to do is take his ideas and SPLIT the champion concept in to two different things. Kalista? Could have been made into an amazing tank-support with her W and R being the focus of their kits, utilizing teamplay and whatnot. The other half of Kalistas kit could have been made into another spear throwing, rending champion focusing on the mobility passive, Q and E.

I just don't see why Riot lets him create full champions, all of her abilities have passives. There's absolutely no reason for that and that's what makes his champions too strong, they're just too overloaded. Look at Zed, why does his W give him bonus AD? Nobody knows... Yasuo? There's just too much to even list, the AS scaling on Q, W passive, Ult giving him his passive and all that free armor pen. Just flat out dumb.

Like I said, I love CertainlyTs ideas, all of the champions he has made are amazingly fun and unique. It's just that his ideas are too big, too much for one character. They really should start splitting his ideas into multiple champions, it's a win-win situation. They'll be easier to balance, less complaining from the playerbase and they have more champions to release!

I use her on PBE, and agree its literally almost impossible to catch her if u know how to play her and have enuff attack speed

Ablogqwer11 votes

In the spotlight they were both level 13-14. Shyvana didn't use her ult, which she would have, then borked-speedboosted behind Kalista and killed her in seconds because the champ is all mobility and skillshots in teamfights or during a laning instead of outright dueling potential.

Kalista is Nidalee with slows, less mobility, and fewer dueling options. On the flipside she gets that interesting duo dynamic.

a Q jump away

Suddenly has minion position advantage so there is basically no counter play.

She will be an insane lane bully, but unlike Quinn, she has 100% control over her movement and it isn't impacted by her position.

itsWind8 votes

She is nothing special. i cant imagine her being anything more than a niche pick after the first week or so as she doesnt deal enough easy damage. She will be the equivalent of varus; people wont put in the time to learn her and will feed once or twice then drop her.

There are too many mobility mids/bruisers that can lock her down.

Ad Astra per Asp7 votes

Since boots help her mobility I hope to god slows will decrease it. Additionally silence better make it so she can't hop around and taunts better not make her jump either or allow her to jump.

Supposedly she sacrifices damage to have all this mobility and a summonable support. If that's true she better do like 70% the damage of other ADC's or it's not going to be balanced whatsoever.

Holy hell, I just realized something: blind her and she's utterly fucked. No damage, no maneuverability (aside from her Q), and every damaging part of her kit is useless aside from her Q and her ult. inb4 people start playing Quinn bot lane again.

Remlap122332 votes

So your chocies are Quinn and Teemo. Gee, that's refreshing. It's not like Teemo is the scum of the earth or anything, and Quinn isn't exactly making friends top lane either. So you counter toxic with toxic. That's just what League needed.

I think frozen heart's attack speed slow shoulld be useful vs her.

Yoella5 votes

She's going to break the game. Every match is going to be Kalista Top or ADC and no melee is ever going to touch her due to her constant leaping.

They need to change that passive. ADCs are supposed to deal huge damage, but are also supposed to die quickly when targeted. 75% of champions will probably have a hell of a time hitting even a Bronze 5 Kalista, let alone when somebody gets her to challenger.

On one hand if you're ranked you can usually just pick a counter, but on the other hand a lot of people play normals and you can't choose a counter if you can't see what the enemy picked. She's going to have like a 70% win rate if she's released as she is now.

I blame him because he consistently releases OP champs that quite obviously lack balancing in the slightest. Not every champ ever released was OP, yet almost every single CertainlyT champ has been OP on release. Coincidence? I think not.

I'm not saying he should be fired, just that he doesn't know what he's doing, and since Riot is supposed to employ people who do, I personally don't think he should have a job with Riot, or at least be moved somewhere where he can't ruin the balance of the game.

AbrahamBaconham6 votes

I think it's quite the opposite. CertainlyT knows EXACTLY what he's doing, much more so than the designers of other champions. Think about it; have any one of his champions ever been boring to play? Are their kits simple? Ordinary? Mundane? No they're not, they're wildly creative, interesting, and incredibly fun.

And he doesn't really have much do with balancing anyway, thats Morello's job. He merely designs the kits, he has very little to do with the actual numbers.

Direwolfiez6 votes

Most of the CertainlyT champs I've seen are released with overstuffed kits and too-high numbers. The kits seem to be left the same, but in return the numbers are heavily nerfed, which doesn't really fix the problems inherent in the champ's design. You can't design a champ and have no concept of game balance, it just doesn't work.

Butthurt4 votes

A champion can be fun without being overwhelmingly overloaded with stuff. Yasuo could still be fun and Yasuo if he didn't get the double crit chance. If his Q didn't scale off of attack speed, etc.

For example, look at Vel'Koz I personally think he's amazingly designed. Plenty of counterplay and very little amount of overloaded BS in his abilities. They're easy to understand, easy to use. Good design. Meanwhile CertainlyT champions are very hard to figure out. Zed? If you didn't research or play Zed before playing him you wouldn't know his W gives him free AD, that his E costs less (Or refunds?) energy if he hits a champion, etc. CertainlyT champions have TONS of free stats and weird passives that make them extremely hard to balance and whatnot.

Yeah, she'll be so immune to that Irelia or Talon who simply has to click her to dash in...

Have you noticed how in the spotlight, NO ONE made any real effort to catch Kalista? That Shyvanna? She didn't even use her own gap-closer to catch the ADC. All she did was get herself obviously kited non-stop.

Direwolfiez8 votes

That was an example of kiting using her passive. No shit the Shyv wasn't doing anything. Jesus, how do people not get that?

Velasan3 votes

So, yeah she's just been released. Played both with her and against her in 7 games.

Turned out you were all crazy lol. She's not at all impossible to catch. Her typical escape is she will try to hit you and use the slow.

I didn't have any trouble catching her on any champ I was using. Played xin shao and warwick and diana. Even when I had to actually catch her I used either the speed boost on tri force or the active on botrk.

The only actual annoying issue with her is if you are killing her supp she can ulti the supp to save them from certain death. Which IMO seems kind of unfair since there's no counterplay to it. Doesn't even need to be channeled.

Everything else about her though... yeah she's just a regular adc with some extra utility. Think vayne with moving wards. Also those wards don't actually spot you unless you are facing their vision radius from what I've noticed so far.

"Think vayne with a no cooldown tumble" is more like it. You're forgetting that every adc has SOME small cooldown on mobility. They also have mana costs (Not huge but still). Kalista's E stacking is horrid too; at level 1 she can really out-trade any other adc; and the best part is, is that she's the most mobile adc with some of the better CC/survivabilty.

Also the champions you listed have a (slow/snare/point to click CC) Try landing a leona ulti dead on when she's jumping around. Or try landing a rengar bola strike when she's jumping around. So what you're saying here is that she needs to be either counter picked by other lanes except bot lane?

Velasan4 votes

Really... this is your argument. Ok first she doesn't move as far as a dash and what no one on here mentions it's always after her attack. If she's mid attack she isn't moving. So she already has a motion delay even if she starts moving afterwards and it's not that far. Vaynes tumble is better than kalista's "hop" in range.

Also, warwick does not have a slow, just used his blood scent ability. Even if I listed other champs though there were plenty of other people in game who had no trouble with her either. Almost every melee champ has a gap closer. She got shredded by our yi during one game.

Strange as well that you go for rengar bolas strike as an example, as you have two gap closing options on him that only require bushes and his ulti gives him full energy for a stun bolas at point blank range which makes all this chasing discussion pretty irrelevant.

If you don't believe me go play against her in game. It's not really a problem. By need to counter pick it's the same as saying any champion that can blow her up or any melee champion with a gap closer ever (which leaves out like.. what.. morde?).

It Hertz When IP4 votes

The issue I found is that landing skillshots on her is retardedly difficult; the comparison of vayne-tumble-without-cd is probably the best summary I can think of. Keep in mind she's an ADC. Most of the balancing issues I'm seeing are in the laning phase. Outside of that, her kit is fine, if anything a little difficult to work. It's the early game, where the above champions that counter her are all top lane or jungling and the only ones facing her are another ADC and a support that she dominates way too much.

Also, any moron can land a skillshot on anyone at point blank range, the issue is using them a little further out than that.
