Why can Galio deal so much damage going a semi -> mostly defensive build path?

Both his damage base stats and scaling of his abilities are fairly high. Yet he has built in damage reduction and a good amount of hard CC and AOE. I get it that he is melee, but come on. He builds just 2-3 average AP items, nothing with high AP stats or anything too (like item 3027 item 3102 item 3135 are all he needs}, and he can burst squishys about as well as most assassins can with a full build. If he had no mobility gap closer, or anything I could understand it a bit better, but that is not the case either.

It's not easy to dodge his whirlwind thing tbh. I feel like even if I'm not inside it, it does dmg still.

Same, maybe the visual is not very good to go upon as to its hit box range?

And for some reason he has 100% total AD too.

He has a 100% total AD ratio on his passive because it is an autoattack.

Passive: Colossal Smash Galio's next basic attack is periodically modified to deal 12 - 80 (based on level) (+ 100% AD) (+ 40% AP) (+ 40% bonus magic resistance) total magic damage to its target and all enemies around it.

The only real difference is that it converts his underlying autoattack to deal magic damage.

That's because it's not bonus damage, it replaces all damage the attack does. If it didn't have 100% AD ratio, it would deal less damage than a normal basic attack.

Got it.

"its ur fault all his attacks are soooo easy to dodge u have bad positioning get gud lel"

"buy magic resist noob"

"tanks NEED to deal heavy damage to be relevant"

Did I get all the typical replies to this kind of thread?

He has almost entirely AOE damage for his output, He has ranged poke, and great wave clear. Not to mention a gap closing dash and a taunt

buy magic resist noob

Agreed, you should have some MR. But he also should not be that big of a magic damage threat if he wants to have damage reduction and a passive shield, as well ranged poke and good wave clear, to the point where you need to have multiple MR items just to survive him.

tanks NEED to deal heavy damage to be relevant

Then they cant be classified as a tank really, if they have high damage... Tanks are suppose to have low-average damage for the trade-off of being able to fight for a longer amount of time, usually dealing a good amount of their damage as either AOE damage, or a DOT. But Galio has so many good scaling abilities that defensive items that have some AP buff his damage in 2 or more ways. He scales AD, AP, % Max Health, and Magic Resist.

Seriously, his passive deals 100% total AD, 40% AP and 40% bonus MR. His Q scales with 75%-120% AP. His E and ult are also 70% AP. His Q is 2%-6% target's Max health, and his W is 8%-20% of his own max health. Both his W and his Ult scale with 8% per 100 bonus MR.

Why does he need to scale so well, and with so many different stats?

Did I make it not obvious enough?

I was mocking people who say that stuff.

I think tanks are broken af and I upvoted your thread.

No, sorry. You made it seem like you were just giving the usual arguments like you said.

3 items is half a build though. Also, Void Staff is the best AP item for getting damage so there's that too.

JavelinJoe1 votes

Yes, but I have seen only 2 AP item Galios, where neither item is void, still deal considerable burst damage. And why does he only need half a builds worth of AP items to deal around the same amount of damage as some champions who need a full builds worth?

Meep Man1 votes

as some champions who need a full builds worth?

Can you name an example?
