Something should be done to put Syndra back in the meta

Visigoth··4 votes·1,362 views

Disclaimer: I'm not saying Syndra is underpowered, not saying she needs massive buffs. No, I do not play Syndra, never even have. I main jungle.

Syndra is pretty weak in the meta right now, mainly because she is just outclassed by other assassins. Personally, I always liked playing against Syndra. She felt like she needed a little more skill than other AP bursters like Annie and Leblanc. And there was more counter play to her CC and damage. She placing balls? Then leave. Not much you can do to escape Lissandra. I'm not saying I want old Syndra back where she basically just went up to someone popped them like a balloon, but she was a champion I actually didn't mind fighting.

Let's just say she could be so much more.

She's a prime example of the balance team making a decision based on community cry-outs. People complained about her stun and lane bully-ness so they decided to nerf her damage and more and then nerf athenes.

I still to this day cannot believe riot nerfs a champion thats single target and immobile.

yeah it was weird wasn't it, she was considered a lane bully who didn't scale fantastically, and then got her bullying nerfed without any compensation

Pretty much that exactly. She was considered a lane bully. So they turned her into a lane sissy. Now she currently has no identity and doesn't really excel at anything at any point in the game.

It's still not clear why she was nerfed. Her popularity had already tanked to the single digits prior to her nerfing.

I have a feeling that the changes to Athene's in 5.6 will see her and a number of mages return to mid lane including the single most annoying one of all - Ziggs...

I wouldn't mind having her damage nerfed if her utility was buffed as compensation. Shift her toward a support-ish mage like Orianna (she technically is, but it's rare to see a support Syndra lately) and Karma, instead of an outright lane bully.

One thing I could see happening is a slight change to her passive. Instead of adding damage to her Q when maxed rank, what if it had a slight slow effect like Ashe's Q toggle, but not as strong?

shrugs

Maybe that's unbalanced. I'm not sure. I love Syndra, but I don't want her to be one of those "OP or UP" every other patch.

Please, no. Syndra is a burst mage through and through. She has utility, sure, but her ultimate is not that of a support and nor is her Q. What they need is to decide on a point of the game for Syndra to be strong. She used to have an excellent early, strong mid and mediocre late. Now she has a crap early, moderate mid (if she's not fallen behind horribly) and mediocre late. She doesn't spike at any point in the game because her poor early feeds into a worse mid, and she can't catch up because her ratios mean she doesn't have a late game.

She needs a damage buff somewhere, whether it be back into her early or to her late. Basically anything that means she will feel good at some point in the game, because right now she never feels powerful.

Her Q's poke is support worthy, but I see what you mean.

Her passive suggests she scales into late-game, so I'd say that's where her power should lie. Kind of like Vayne, where early is weak but late damage is incredible.

Maybe lower the cooldown on her Q just a wee-bit so a full cdr Syndra can get the most out of her ult?

I think late game is the right thing to buff. Not sure about her Q, that's an interesting thing to buff but I'm not sure how much lower they can put the cooldown. I'd probably just increase the scaling on her E from 40% to 50% honestly, that's the weak link in her damage.

Q at max rank does 69%, W is 70%, ult will realistically be at least 80%, likely 100%, and then E is a measly 40%. Seems like an easy way to buff her late is to remove the weak link, or at least make it less noticeable.

I don't think encouraging people to try to get a max damage ult is a good idea. Her Ult is rather gimmicky. 40% CDR is nearly impossible to get thanks to the removal of DFG unless you build a non-optimal item on her. And even if you do get it, getting 7 spheres is a tedious task that way too many people concentrate on that leads to bad positioning, missing kills, running out of mana, dying, etc.

Her ult, while cool in theory, isn't really that healthy (for her) of an ability.

I really don't agree at all. Getting a 7 ball ult is not a thing anyone with sense strives for because the enemy team shouldn't allow it and frankly you have better things to be doing than setting up your balls if a fight breaks out. Personally I always aim for a 5 ball ult, 6 if I really have the time to plan it out. 5 balls is more than enough, it's 900 (+ 100% AP) damage which isn't quite 100-0 but if you've put out any damage while setting it up, you will get the kill.

Her ult is only gimmicky for people who don't know how to use it. You don't need the full power, 1260 (+ 140% AP) blast from it and generally getting it to be effective enough doesn't take anything special on your part. Just your standard team fight plan will set it up.

Maybe they could cap it at six and buff the base damage a bit?

It should never never never never never happen. Dont make another '' utility mage ''. So much unique so much utility yeah sure. Burst mage are rarer than utility mages.

Why do you even want syndra in the meta? She is horribly un fun to play against. Huge AOE cc abilities, ult that killed you even after she dies, and huge damage.

She really wasnt fun at all to go against when she was popular

I don't get what's unfun about her that other mages don't have. AOE CC is pretty standard for mages and her AOEs are actually pretty moderate. "huge damage" is also quite common for burst mages and an ult that kills you even if she dies after casting it doesn't mean much.

I guess im just annoyed at the fact that she is able to be played like a kite mage. Standing waaaay back stunning you then poking you even more. But then also at the same time be an assassin mage who pops you in a few hits and then nukes you with a point and click ability.

Not saying she is super easy to play or anything. but if she doesnt have heavy mana costs, and gets to do very good in laning she becomes un counterplayable.

Cindikle1 votes

Lower the Q's mana cost and she'd probably be OK. I've always felt she should always be dropping orbs. Mana changes changed this, but she would still fit the meta early in the season. Now that this has changed she could use a touch up.

Maybe the Athene changes coming will fix things.

How about no. Just leave her the hell alone and don't touch her. Part of the satisfaction of playing a 'weak early' game champion like Syndra is that when I do get ahead and win there's a sense of satisfaction considering everything was stacked against me from the moment I locked her in champion select.

She has one of the very lowest win rates in the game (among the bottom 5 for people who didn't just get buffed in today's patch) despite having a tiny play rate (3%). She needs buffs, no matter how satisfying you find it to do well with an underpowered champ.

I'd rather not go back to getting 100-0'd from 750 range with a point and click skill

DFG doesn't exist anymore. That doesn't happen.

It's still over 1000 damage with morello + deathcap + void and 5 spheres at level 11. If you're an ADC you basically aren't allowed to fight until Syndra has already ulted.

She's a mage assassin, what do you expect? You shouldn't put yourself in danger until any person with massive burst has used their combo. It's the same with Veigar, or mobile assassins like Akali, Zed and LeBlanc.

Akali has to come up to my face, giving my frontline and support ample opportunity to peel

Leblanc can have her chain body blocked or dodged, negating a huge portion of her burst from her standard assassination combo (WQRE or EQRW)

Zed has to come up to my face like Akali and he also has skill shots to hit.

I agree with you on Veigar, but his ult alone deals about half as much damage as Syndras to an AD champion at almost all stages of the game.
