Bruiser Keystone on PBE

"[EXPERIMENTAL] After 4 seconds in combat, your first attack against an enemy champion grants you 10 - 60 AD, based on level, for 4s and converts 20% of your damage to champions to True damage for the duration. Melee Only: Damaging enemy champions refreshes this buff."

Refreshes it?

So potentially a Melee champion can keep doing this straight an entire fight? That’s nuts.

Ahristocats50 votes

Good if a melee happens to stand against kiting, he should be rewarded

Ralanr18 votes

It’s not against kiting I’m worried about.

Lil Homie busta13 votes

TBH, fevor used to gave more AD than this keystone (slightly), and almost all the new keystones are far superior - both in numbers and mechanics - than the old masteries, so no drama here.

Also, 4 melee attacks are much more faster than a 4 seconds delay. FoB was stacked much more faster than this one, is only natural that it gives a bigger reward.

RainbowIcee6 votes

yup, it's the champions that aren't vulnerable to kiting that will be a problem. Such as Fiora she is about to do some serious true damage. Honestly why is true damage even a thing outside of summoner 14 ? was it needed to counter something? seems like something that only causes balance problems.

giantZorg1 votes

True damage counters resistance stacking. Consider a tank getting ninja tabis and bramble vest, where true damage really helps as opposed to health stacking like bruisers do (at least partially).

RainbowIcee3 votes

but we have armor pen for that and item 3071 what ends up happening is a situation where the champion is not only armor shredded but takes true damage also. Bramble vest and tabi should counter fiora if she doesn't build against those with MR and amor pen/shred. Instead now we have a situation where the champion needs tabi, and bramble vest AND HP AND to try to survive her or flat out try to outdamage her.

RiotZenonTheStoic9 votes

We've not been able to make this work on Fiora at all! Both because she already does true damage (so she loses out on the effectiveness of the rune--part of the damage it "turns into" true damage is already true damage, so it does nothing for that damage, and partly because the 4s ramp up are WAY too long for Fiora--by the time this rune kicks in, it's already too late. It's a good laning rune for her though!)

The champions this does best on right now are the likes of Darius and Renekton. They don't super love the attack speed in the precision tree, even though it's strictly good on them (Darius get his bleed stacks faster, Renekton gets his fury faster). It's like spinach for them--good for them, but they don't want it.

yZfYArlene2 votes

Darius can have it perma up because of bleed

AirKingNeo3 votes

Doesn't really matter. Everyone has it perma up in skirmishes. Only Darius thing is laning.

50000000000000005 votes

Anyone with item 3076 or item 3751 will probably have it permanently up anyway.

press the attack makes 5 people deal 12% increased damage against the affected target.

the new keystone converts 20% of the damage dealt by you to true damage. meaning its an effective selfish damage increase, but you dont deal 20% extra damage.

PTA is honestly crazier.

Glory ln Death6 votes

Actually, not including the increased AD you gain, you do deal 20% extra damage if the target has 100 Armor/MR. At 200 Armor/MR, you deal 40% increased damage, and at 300 Armor/MR, you deal 60% increased damage. It's a very anti-tank keystone, although the increased AD makes it strong against squishy targets, as well.

RiotZenonTheStoic3 votes

Yeah, as long as you can deal damage to an enemy champion at least once every 2s, you can keep it going indefinitely right now. We might cap this to a maximum duration if we find that's necessary, but we're currently not seeing any reason to do so.

Most fights, especially team fights, are over in 4 seconds. In a team fight you barely even get a keystone. This is very much a skirmish/lane/split push rune. The counterplay for the enemy is to disengage after the effect comes online, wait for it to fall off, and then engage again, giving them another 4s where you don't have a keystone.

Isn't that a bad thing?

This is going to go fantastically with my boy Darius

Ahristocats15 votes

It should make Darius's true damage even more true damage

unblockable by shields and immortality

[slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

yZfYArlene5 votes

This may be overboard on him tbh

Mid to late game getting 200 AD from passive then 40-60 with this and hes already doing half his damage in true damage to begin with. Make that 70 percent now?

Might get a little nutty

Ahristocats7 votes

it was a joke budy

yZfYArlene2 votes

OK... Either way my point still stands, and he can constantly refresh it because bleed last 5 seconds

Can't really blame the guy, you aren't exactly known for joking around

It's funny, so many champions that can use this already have some true damage in their kit, which makes the rune WORSE on them.

[garen-swing] thought on Garen ?

RiotZenonTheStoic4 votes

Oh yes. Grasp still does better in some matchups, I think, but he's a great user of the rune. Once we go into teamfights though it does next to nothing for him.

I'm glad they added the Melee only bonus.

Just wanna pop in and add we're watching this topic (and others) for your feedback! :)

We could still possibly tweak this rune a bit before it goes live and would love your opinions on it if you play it on PBE (helpful to know which champions you're trying it out on too!).

Ahristocats17 votes

I think it's a good rune because since a long time melees especially immobile ones had troubles to kill tanks as fast as things like marksmen, and this made them unable to teamfight

Darius for instance got buffed in 8.4, but i still do not see him being able to teamfight above d1 with this rune everything changes, he can focus the frontline as an immobile melee and do fine without being too afraid of not dealing damage to tanks and getting kited by the backline.

Mordekaiser will also use this rune, as a Mordekaiser main i will at least people are overlooking too much that his Q has 660% AD ratio since it has already 360% ad ratio, and it's bonus damage on top of 3 of your autoattacks 60 AD is really good and the convertion into true damage makes him just like Darius able to focus on the frontline

CyberBalt3 votes

How are you going to stick on the enemy champion for 4 seconds as Morde though? Kind of hard to do IMO.

if the % damage conversion doesnt work out, maybe try a burn effect similar to elder dragon buff.

DragonShea12 votes

Tried it out on my boy Yorick The moment you melee someone you're ghouls and maiden is gonna fuck shit up.

Pro: It's gonna fuck shit up good, adc's can't use it well.

Con: Still too much damage in the game, the burst meta needs to go.

RiotZenonTheStoic6 votes

I don't think "sustained damage over time after a 4s rampup" counts as burst damage.

Swarovsko8 votes

So can Darius costantly refresh the buff thanks to his passive?

AmazoX5 votes

I am happy for Fighters and Juggernaut mains.

Turbanator13375 votes

Extremely smart from Riot IMO. It's an answer for fighters to pick vs. tanks that like to build straight resistances. Now tanks should actually have to beat fighters by doing what they were meant to do: teamfight and not 1v1 with Thornmail.

As much shit as Riot's been getting lately, I think they're making some good changes.

Verxint5 votes

Darius THIS ISNT EVEN MY FINAL FORM

Sasogwa4 votes

I'm kinda scared. Also I wonder how good this can get on tanks, even though they don't benefit that much from AD, this much true damage could just be outright better than grasp

Ahristocats8 votes

there is no way tanks go into the precision tree

there is no way tanks go into the precision tree

why the f not though? You lose on scorch+ manaflow band and a few ap/ad maybe, to gain a bit of attack speed, same HP (resolve secondary), you gain potentially triumph/AS or tenacity and a bunch of % damage from last stand or coup de grace and then it's grasp/aftershock VS this keystone. It's not optimal, I don't think it's gonna happen too much... But it's not crazy bad either. It's sorta decent imo. Probs better on bruisers, feasible on tanks. It really depends how strong it is, and for me 20% true damage is pretty fucking strong, but I might be wrong on that.

Ahristocats3 votes

did you see 8.4 changes to resolve? you're going to lose a lot of power from it if you go into precision that gives literally nothing to tanks

What I see happening is you literally can't fight another melee champ with this keystone if u dont have this keystone, it sounds pretty dumb balance wise

DragonShea3 votes

Just so people know in case of Tards causing shit.

It converts not adds 20% true damage. It's effect is similar to getting 20% armor and MR shed. Making Conqueror a strong Tank buster Item.

For example. Darius Ult doesn't gain 20% more damage but it will deal up to 5-15 to 18-90 more true damage based on his passive stacks.

MuffledGarbage3 votes

Welp... looks like I might be coming back to league if this goes through

Zelorxon3 votes

This looks broken as hell and i'm 100% sure it won't go through at least with the current numbers. I would love to have that rune as it is but if it comes out with those numbers the amount of REEEEE it will cause will be unbearable.

5050BS2 votes

BROKEN

Just what we need... More Yasuo craziness.

Another broken part of it is that its not adaptive so screw you AP melee.

Tho the 20% is just damage so could work just for that true damage.

Akali just got more scary.

AmenPerson6 votes

Champions like Akali and Yasuo aren't going to use this. For the reason of that amount of extra damage is too slow.

Yasuo and Akali are meant to kill in the time it takes to get this new keystone active.

Lil Homie busta1 votes

Not really... Bruiser/Mallet-suo can use it very well, and that AD has it's efficiency doubled for him due to his crits. Also, it's time in combat, meaning that while you're stacking Q or/and E, you're also charging the keystone. You can simply attack afterwards and get the bonus. Also, more resists ignore are never bad, sometimes there's so many tanks that even yasuo needs to build last whisper items.

AmenPerson4 votes

On Bruiser Yasuo yeah, considering it is a keystone meant for bruisers.

And I did say in another reply that it would seem a bit better to make it "after 4 second of combat with an enemy champion" that way it can't be as abused. Although then it would probably make it too weak.

This is really just a keystone I don't want to see on people that aren't meant to take it, because then they're gonna be the reason why this gets gutted.
