Observations of a Beta Player
Hey, guys!
How are we all today? While, over the years, I have come and gone from the game for months at a time (this last time I quit in July 2015, for example) I have always been around, reading the updates and seeing how things are going. Here are a few things I've noticed:
1: Community is the Same
What gives, guys? Y'all play in one of the most fast paced, fun to play, MOBAs that exists... the first MOBA to truly be a MOBA. Most of you joined a very long time after some of us, but you walk around like you're the king of the nest, most of the rest of the players are beneath dirt, because you came during a time where things like Quick Cast and Smart Cast had been introduced to the main stream, so when mommy bought you a 2000$ computer you found yourself at the top... well, for a bit, assuming you're not over the age of 25 and therefore denied professional play, which ultimately means your Ranking means nothing beyond having a shiny on your profile. Why be jerks to each other? Have fun, play the game, that's why it was made. You will never be paid money for your Challenger or Diamond rating, so chill with that junk, and just play to have fun.
2: Mechanics Have Been Turned To Flash
This one is more for RIOT. Really? Buff the towers three times, change their firing priority, make the towers harder to dive under at lower levels... only to negate all of those changes, because early tower dives, and towers dying fast, are more amusing to watch in a stream? Champions are now nerfed or buffed, based upon who is more entertaining to see in team fights? While I get that, just like any 'sport' you will have hero worship in your player base, your Player Base is what make your E-Sports possible. Why shrug them off so that them watching your streams is more entertaining. Go back to being League of Legends instead of a TV show that Netflix will never pick up.
3: Old Players Thrown Under The Bus
Some of us who are here from The Before Times in the Long Long Ago were the first players to be tossed aside. While I understand that my lousy 8,945$ in RIOT Point Purchases really amounts to closer to being zero now days, I rather helped fund the place's foundation stones. This isn't only me, as I was no where the biggest spender of people I've known over the years, many breaking 50-60,000$. You guys went off and started making millions in E-Sports. For the first time since Beta you've told us that we know nothing of the game, and we could go screw ourselves with a large metallic object because we were the old news. Have you noticed that most of us don't play any more? I still have over 500 people on my friends list, most of whom have not logged in in years. Most of your new players spend far less in RP, and many of us donated real early when you were literally just asking for donations. Soooo.... no real point here other than pointing this out.
4: Assassin Meta
I swear about four years ago it was stated that the Assassin Meta was a mistake, and precautions would be taken to ensure that this never happened again - as it rendered almost every other champion type in the game useless. Well...
5: Masteries
Really? You guys have always adjusted the mastery system for balancing, so as opposed to actually finding balance you attempted to re-write the mastery system. Now there is nearly no customization, you are relegated to one of three builds or people consider you to be trolling, and the trees are so intermingled now that if you are indeed using one of them you will be ignoring half of it. Granted, you do not have a choice, you will be ignoring half of a tree any way, as it would not be good to have both biscuits in the jungle AND longer neutral buffs. That is, of course, game breaking as we all know.
That's it so far, and I will likely add more to this thread as I am back longer than a couple weeks. You guys can comment what ever you like, I likely wont ever actually check the post again, as the opinions of most of you guys don't really matter. The LoL community hasn't changed in six years... fun to play with, pointless to talk to. Posting mostly for my own reasons.
