If you can't carry your games, you don't deserve to be higher

However accurate this may be, it fails to paint the full picture, and it's a disservice to the low folks asking for advice to answer this way. So here's what they really mean, brought to you by someone who knows what they mean, and refuses to do it:

  1. If you don't play a champ that can carry, then you did this to yourself. Win rates of 53% or higher only. 50% and below is asking to lose.

  2. Your preferences are stupid. Enjoy tank support? Then enjoy bronze. You're not going anywhere.

  3. When we say Mute Everyone, there isn't room to negotiate. Mute everyone and play.

  4. Your ideas about what builds work best obviously do not work since you're bronze. See those Challenger Builds? Do that or stay bronze.

  5. Fun is for normals. Ranked isn't a game - it's hard math and tactics. You tilt because you think one loss means something. It doesn't. It's a game of big numbers. Stick to the tactics, shake off the losses that will come, you should be a machine.

  6. Everyone has trolls/feeders/AFKers. Ok? Everyone. We get that you have them, we know that it sucks and it's unfair, but reread #1 and #5 and recognize that this is why you're being told to play the broken/OP champs. You're supposed to be good enough to carry dead weight. Again, maybe not every game, but enough to neutralize their influence.

  7. The whole "they could have 5 trolls, you can only have 4" works like this: Don't look for someone to carry you. If someone does, great. Your job then becomes to A. not feed and B. make the other team have to care about you. If a Rengar can come over an delete you alone while your support can't save you, then they're going to 4 man the person who would carry you and then you're going to lose.

  8. Speaking of which, you die way too fucking much. Yeah, I see your 11 kills and I don't give a shit. You gave them 8 kills on top of what they already had. YOU did that. You gave them eight. Deaths matter more than kills.

  9. Grouping. If there's someone doing well, stick with them and give them a fighting chance. If some moron is splitting and getting killed, you have to work around them. Focus on the talent, not the deadweight. At least if that ponce is splitting their pulling one person away. And if that's their only contribution, great.

  10. Your map. If this were in order of importance, then this would be first. You don't look at it enough. No, no, shut up, this is why your bronze - look at it twice as often as you are right now. If you didn't hear pings because you put your garbage music on, then turn it off and reread #5. Fun is for normals. This is a job. It's not a game, it's not you hanging out with a friend, ranked is work and you should treat it like a job. No one wants to go to work, but everyone likes getting paid. Cut the shit.

Now, having said that, I'm going back to my Bard Control build for another ravishing season of Low Bronze.

Fun is for normals. Ranked isn't a game - it's hard math and tactics.

I agree with all points except this one. Video games are supposed to be fun, and different people find different things to be fun. Ranked is supposed to be for the people who find hard math and tactics fun.

The idea behind it I agree with, just not the way it was presented.

Yeah, I don't typically present it that way, but I'm attempting to cut to the chase. I have extensive experience in the low brackets and you can't mince words. People swear to god they have the best strat while actively feeding and think they're only feeding because you won't X.

At the start of this season, I wanted a blunt reminder that climbing to Gold is a matter of numbers and tactics.

That's all fair. Your post definitely felt like it had a cohesive message to give, and so you did get my upvote. Hopefully someone will be able to put it all to good use.

a lot of the OP is true... but even more is bullshit... and im not bronze.. i have proven that by climbing out of bronze 4 seasons in a row. And i say your post is BULLSHIT

lets start with the first 3

"if you didn't play a champ that can carry"

wut? excuse me? i dont give a damn if my champion can carry, i play what i have fun playing, the games are SUPPOSED to be evenly matched, therefore of i am better than my lane opponent i should win lane unless i got counterpicked

the whole "which ever team has a better adc wins".. is complete bullshit, the game is not supposed to be like that and it didnt USED to be like that.

i have carried more games as support than i have on my main... becuase i can 100% guarenetee that iuf my adc has half a live brain cell.. he is ganna get fed.

and right now w/e adc has more gold wins the game about 90% of the time. the other lanes don't matter. its stupid.. but true

"enjor tank support" enjoy bronze? again... this is you being a complete asshole. and that's as nice as I'm willing to say that.

"mute everyone"

if the first thing you do is remove team communication then your more likely going to lose, in 5 years of playing i have had to mute a grand total of about 10 people... if you honestly CARE what people say in chat.. THAT'S your issue, take the info and then either choose to use it. or choose to call it irrelevant .. but ignoring info is what makes people stupid.

  1. umm no.. you should look at challenger builds yes... but if you just try to copy them your goign to fail.. you need to be flexible if your champ can be.. obviously some champs only have 1 build that works and it hard to deviate much from it not mater the situation. (mages really don't have many options to deviate with) but until you lern to think for yourself.. you are going to fail

5.. this point is correct, however.. we are not machines.. and some of us don't have all day to play..

  1. if you play broken/ OP champs to climb.. then don't deserve that rank to begin with. that's pretty much abusing an exploit that riot hasn't fixed yet. its exploiting something broken. that doesn't make you good. that's make you a filthy cheater.

i can understand if a champion you already played got broken you wouldn't STOP playing it. but if you pick up a champion thats broken.. and you onmly play them while they are broken... and drop them after thier broken and then move on to the next broken champ.. i would honestly ban you. because that's the exact same thing as abusing exploits

sure if u pick a champ thats broken.. and you then realize you love playing that champ and even after they are nerfed you keep playing them.. then sure.. but that's different

7 is correct not feeding key in this game. but you also have to realize that thats sometimes you frankly have to die for your team.. and that if u don't die there the enemy team will get something much more valuable than just kill you. use your judgement

8 again correct, (wow two in a row, thats somthing now isn't it) but like i said at the other point. and to use your example if you have 11 kills but 8 deaths, but 2 of those death were securing infernal, 1 was stealing baron, and 3 where from holding an tower while your team got one in return.. then i wouldn't count those against you.

if you die though, you better have traded it for something with that death

9... honestly i find the opposite to me more true.. most of the time my team wants me to join needless fight they start for no reason over no objective with no one caught out at all, when i am splitting.. if we have a 1/3/1 going on... dont fucking force a 3v5... let the 2 splitpushers do thier job and we get free objectives..

10.. yes your map is important.. and yes... if u cant hear ping because of music you have issues.. but it is a game.. its not a job. so when the game stops being fun.. you stop playing it.

so overall.. you're 3.5/10... (ill give you half a point for 10)

not the best guide... and you sound like an asshole to boot

It would make sense if the whole enemy team was a bunch of potatoes, and then you are supposed to prove your strength by carrying your own sack of four potatoes over them.

That's never how it works, though. Matchmaking seems to think you have to prove that you don't belong in the potato bin by single-handedly defeating 5 players who are playing at roughly your level or slightly higher while the rest of your team rages, AFKs, and runs aimlessly around the map like the ghosts in Pac-Man.

H1 H0w are Ya2 votes

Mathematically this statement is incorrect. Assuming you yourself aren't a troll or feeder then the other team has a higher chance of having one themselves 5>4

Riot isnt singling people out. Stop

Have to disagree with this mindset. Sometimes there are games that just can't be carried. You can be the best Nami support in the world but if your teammates don't group or your ADC is too forward all the time even if you POLITELY ask them to avoid putting themselves in precarious situations, then you're gonna have a bad time. While assessing how you could've played better is very important, sometimes you need to accept that you played the best you could in your role. While all roles can carry to some extent either through damage, objective control, macro, or teamwork, League at the end of the day is a team game. Yes, I know I don't play a lot of ranked, but I know one thing and that's that I've seen way more friendly, relaxed teams make comebacks than toxic, cheeto dust sweating toxic teams. Also I watch waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much LCS, LCK and LPL.

Time to pick through each point because I have no fucking life.

  1. Currently, only 13 champions sit at above 53% win rate. Some of these have play rates of less than 1%, implying that it's probably a few one tricks who have mastered their champion at a high level of play. If you don't have great game knowledge or need a long time to get used to champions IE a lot of us chumps at low level play, then jumping from champion to champion each time they get nerfed might not be sustainable. By all means pick a strong champion to play, but try pick one you're certain won't be beaten into the ground with nerfs. Mastering a small pool is more effective at low level play than meta abuse.

  2. Braum main with 71% win rate over pre-season here. Having a preference providing it isn't too far-fetched isn't bad. If it encourages you to play a champion more often and you feel that you can play confidently on it then do it! If you have fun and want to master a champion, wider understanding of the game will follow naturally. When you learn the ins and outs of a champion, you spend less time thinking about your champion and more about the game as a whole. This is why you'll often see people playing a champ for the first time making so many mistakes. They're worried about learning the champion so much that they lose sight of the game.

  3. Kinda agree with. If a team is being extremely toxic or blaming without any advice, then mute them. If you think their flaming or poor attitude is going to out-weigh anything useful they can communicate to you, then mute them. It's one less thing to worry about and takes pressure off. Don't just mute willy nilly though just because a jungler politely asks you to engage earlier next time etc.

  4. Depends. Obviously, some builds you see are ridiculous IE tanks building a rapid-fire cannon etc. However, there are some things to consider. Even in the very fast meta we have at the moment, the lowest ranked games last longer than challenger games. Sure a lot of challenger adcs might build a GA third, but that's probably because they have a lead, know they can hold onto it, and can win before the other adc get's a better third item. Unless you're confident your team will group for objectives/ peel, it's better to think about the late game if people aren't grouping for an earlier win.

  5. Try harding or having fun? Why not both! I play my normals to win and have fun doing it. The first support to hit rank 1 in NA challenger is Olleh, and he's known for being extremely friendly and relaxed. Tilt is a game loser, and not having that positive barrier in yer head is a great way to feel worse about a game, thus make more mistakes.

  6. Again, league is a team game. Some comps just can't 4 v 5. Sure a Yasuo, Yi, Vayne and Orianna support comp could potentially 4 v 5 if the game went on long enough, or, if a very early game team like Lee, Zed, Cait and Blitz bot got a good advantage. A good team however, will take advantage of a missing player/troll to group and win, or to 1:3:1 push. Do your best to win, but don't beat yourself up if their Nasus got to free farm when Shen AFK'd, or if their Kat roamed because Azir decided to run down mid. It isn't always your fault.

  7. All together people, league is a team game. If you're an 0/3/1 Maokai but your Tristana is 6/0/1 you should probably stop building full AP and tank for them. There's also proxy carrying, in which you do everything in your power to spoon feed gold to the players on your team which is really what most good tanks should try to do.

  8. I kinda agree with this, but it needs context. If you got 11 kills and died 8 times but every death and collection of kills secured a major objective for your team, then it could be wurf. The opposite is true too, if you got a whole bunch of kills but didn't get anything out of them except gold, while you dying secured a turret for the enemy team then you done did a goof.

  9. Yup, mostly agree with this. If your fed hyper carry wants to take mid while the enemy jungler is bot, you join them. While defending other objectives should be considered, if grouping with a carry wins the game, then group. One exception to this though is a well-timed split push bot when your team is pretending to threaten baron. This creates a situation in which the other team has to either try teamfight, or protect the turret. Ideally you either get a free baron, or a free turret. There's also the good old 1:3:1 with baron, but that requires even more coordination. These need communication though, so another reason to not mute everyone without reason.

  10. While put harshly, yeh. Always keep checking your map. You can set up a timer online to go off every few seconds, prompting you to check the map. Warding is extremely important for every role, but it's useless if you don't look at the map. One thing you can do though is support your teammates by using pings effectively. Don't ping missing in your lane if they roam or are missing, ping right on top of the neighbouring lanes. Hell, even type it in chat. This is especially important against roaming champions like Talon, Katarina, Bard etc.

To clarify, as a player you do have responsibility for your actions and should try to improve. There's getting carried when you lose lane, but there's also getting carried by someone that you actively set up plays for. There are times where you could have perhaps played better, but there are other times where your teammates made poor calls you couldn't save or rectify. Self-assess, but don't get stressed. I also clarify this in no way justifies flaming. If your team is making mistakes, communicate politely and help them improve by offering salt-free advice (not commands). Discuss it, and you might even realise that perhaps you have a flaw in how you perceive the game yourself. It might not even help you this game, but next time your 0/7 Yasuo is agains a Singed, he'll know not to chase. You're then not just helping him, but his future teammates too.

What the!?

Ok first of all, if you think only high percentage builds and champs can help you climb you are obviously unaware of what the community is actually like. The upper eschelon of players is riddled with one tricks and niche builds. Think of Trick2G as an example, or that streamer who mains Annie. Annie for God's sake. They may play a gimp build or a gimp champ, but they become exceptionally good at it.

Secondly, you chose to play this game. No one made you play it. You chose to play a cerebral game with tons of different elements and win conditions to take into account. If you only want to focus on your favorite aspects and not on winning, that's fine. It's a free country have at it. But the reality of the situation is that ranked typically attracts students of the game and people looking not just to win, but get better at most or all aspects. If that's not what you're in to, then try out other game modes.

So play what you want and build what you want, but do not complain because your teammates are asking you to play the game correctly.

Let me use an analogy: Say I go down to the park like I do sometimes to play a game of pickup ball. Now one of my teammates insists on shooting 3's all the time. Like literally every other time he gets the ball, but the thing is he is not great at shooting. Despite him missing a bunch I'm like ok he's having fun, I'd like to win, but it's his game too. Now theoretically my homie could be really good at 3's and even though it's not my favorite style of play we could set him up and just spam perimeter shots all game. (Think of this as the off-meta champ or off-meta build. You are doing your own thing to have fun, but not actively trolling and trying to win in your own way. And it has potential to actually be really effective if you're good at it.)

Now refusing to do things like ward, check your mini map, signal mia's, etc etc is a whole different scenario. That's like if in the pick up game of ball I pass the ball to my teammate and he only ever shoots it on the spot or passes it, no dribbling. I ask him what the deal is and he is just like, "Well I never thought dribbling was very fun so I never learned how, I just shoot and pass cuz that's what I thought was the most fun." Now again, it's a free country and if that's how he wants to play that's fine. But he can't really blame everyone else if no one wants to play with him whenever he is down at the park.

Summary: If you want to do your own champ picks and builds, that's great! Ignore those guys who flame you for going off meta, they are assholes. Just try to stay away from stuff that is absolute garbage in the context of your team comp or against their team comp. And actually try to win with whatever champ or items you are using. But please, if you are going to play ranked, you should at least attempt to learn the basics of the multiple facets of the game. It's going to take some losses to get good at your off meta pick/build and that's fine. But sandbagging your team because you don't care when they all do is not respectful. I play in Platinum tier and I always say pick whatever you want and build what you want, just don't troll. If you don't feel like approaching the game as a whole and just want to explore abusing a specific champ or build in game, maybe you should stick to normal out of respect for your teammates.

So, You are correct that its on players to climb. Some of your advice is not gonna help, and much of it is gonna be negative.

  1. A good deal of league players have the wrong idea about what a carry champion is. Its frequently used in lol for damage and kill potential. The ability to set up kills and prevent damage can make for a carry. You need impact on the match outcome, not just damage and kills.

  2. Impact matters. Champion GG search for bronze, lets look at that 53% your talking about. There 30 champions that qualify for that win rate. 3 of them are ADCs. 1/10 7 are supports, 3 of them are Tanks Leona , Alistar Blitzcrank Preferences are fine as long as your able to consistently create a positive impact.

  3. Don't mute everybody. Communications helpful. Its better to not tilt and ignore toxicity. If some ones really outta line or gets under your skin then mute that player. There's nothing mute everybody solves that is not fixed by just being hard to tilt. Embrace maturity and ignore the rage cases, (part of not being tilted means ya don't waste time communicating uselessly when there's in game actions that your missing.)

  4. Players in bronze are there because knowledge and mechanics. Builds are a part of that, but copy pasting items is a crutch to improvement. Knowing the items and their impact with champions, both yours and opponents is of much higher value to getting out of bronze then just I saw high elo do this so I has to be good right mentality. The meta and macro is different in various MMRs, Games in bronze fall apart randomly, lane might just end as 5 folks group and try to push to hibi. A challenger build that power spikes at 3rd item and boots, is gonna be of low use to a bronze player who cant CS that build in time to match the Item and exp power spike. Some one who copy pastes that will fail and fail harder if they don't have the required mechanics learned.

  5. Ranked is for what ever each person playing it wants out of the experience. A challenge, to play with peers and improve, competitive enviorment, and yes fun.

  6. Law of large numbers helps with bad luck but your screwed if your the issue. Playing OP or FOTM with out the mechanics to thrive is a mistake. You wont see champions who are OP go to long with out nerfs. Regardless of community's beliefs its not in riots best interests to let champs be broken. Its best to find what your good with and focus on your mechanics if your in bronze. Your individual skill as a player needs to improve, just changing your champion is pointless as that's only helpful if you happen to be more skilled playing them then you have been with your other picks.

  7. See first sentence of point 6.

  8. Trying to avoid bleeding gold is good advice. Learning how to play from behinds also a great skill.

  9. Theres time and place to group, Learn your macro!

  10. Awarness is fantastic, learn your macro!

Edit. Also try Botrk if your doing off meta AS bard builds. Meep AP scaling Is meh, investing into high AP for item 3115 has a negative effect on his dps as most the items don't interact with his AS or autoattacks. Not really of much relevance but weirdly Drain type life steal is also affected by heal power which is only available on support items. Also you get a nice active to round things out. Just saying the AD from Botrk adds as much damage or more to your autos as the on hit components from item 3091 or a item 3115 with less then 170 ish ap and that's not factoring the %damage on hit in.

Obliviously your wrong in one way and right challengers are most,y one tricks take yassuo for example he one tricked yasuo for 3 years. Now a very good player like dopa baned so but he litterly tells you that he played 2 sitting champs that scale, kassadin and twisted fate. If you look at when he plays certain champs he has a big chance of loosing. It’s basicaly the game of no victory without trajectory.

Hard to carry when everything does too much damage now. You can be 10/3 and still lose to a 1/6 enemy 1v1 because everyone does insane damage and has low cooldowns.

As someone who isn't really in a rush in climbing Ranked; for those who do want to climb, I recommend people to find their "Corki".

A champion that they know they are capable of carrying with - solo carrying if needed.
