So, why do placements exist?

I spent all season improving, and climbing, and earning my rank; as did countless others. I was still going up divisions the night the season rolled over and ranks reset. So I'm wondering... why am I going to be forced to climb back up from low Silver all over again? I've had trolls and afks in every placement I've been in (thankfully not always on my team, but the point stands there's one in every placement) and I know for absolute fact these 10 games with a mish-mash of people from every rank and god knows how many people that don't actually care is not indicative of my, or any other players' skill level. Next to nobody is going to be placed correctly; and next to nobody is going to be satisfied once it's all done. So why do placements exist when they're so horridly inaccurate and frustrating; serving no purpose but to force players to re-climb to ranks they've already earned?

if you have the skill to climb, then why is it a problem? i didnt complete my placements yet but my soloQ skill level is diamond 2 so i will be diamond 2 within the next week easily, no matter where i get placed.

How do you think the pro players feel about getting placed in Plat. You rarely see them complaining. Grow a pair.

The point isn't "oh you'll just climb back up anyway." The point is you shouldn't have to. It's a waste of the player's time and effort to be told "hey that's great! Now we're gonna take that away from you so you have to do it again."
