The reason why ad casters have overloaded kits...

(this is especially for zed) - it's that their itemization is trash! Most of the ad caster items are really either ad tanky or adc items. AD casters want pen, CDR, and AD. Take a look at an average zed build:

Hydra (lifesteal is meh) BORK (attackspeed???) BC (he usually wont get all 6 stacks) Youmuus (the active attackspeed??) And LW - this one is good.

Most champions have items that they can fully benefit from all the stats, however a lot of ad casters dont so they ket kits that are op on paper.

EDIT: This is about pure ad casters like zed, talon NOT riven/panth (who i would call more ad bruisers)

I think the bigger problem is that even if you're an ad caster you still have useful aa. Unlike a mage when your spells are on cd your autos do hurt. Not only that you get ad/as from leveling up further improving not only your scaling but your autos as well as opposed to mages. If ad caster itemization is to improve then they would probably have to find a way to separate improving your aa and spells simultaneously.

Sidenote BC speed boost and cd should not be over looked in addition to the pen even if you don't get all the stacks.

I think it would depend based on AD caster champion. Zed's passive encourages melee combat, so if they improved items for AD casters they'd have to nerf their ability to AA.

AD casters are in a really awkward spot. One buff or Nerf can make them broken in either way.

I honestly have no idea why Zed's build Botrk, but armor pen is the best way to scale AD caster damage early. But why they don't build, like, item 3134 item 1001 item 1038 -> item 3142 item 3047 item 3139

Zeds build Botrk because the active is amplified by his ult and it gives him lifesteal (infinite sustain), a bit of AD, plus Atkspeed and the on hit passive so that if you fuck everything up you can still kill your target with AAs.

Pantheon: You wot Mate?!

How is Pantheon an AD bruiser more so than an AD caster? Most of his damage comes from his abilities. The only benefit he has to autoattacking (besides autoattacks dealing decent damage) is that it activates his passive. Which casting spells does anyway!

Heck Riven is an AD caster because of her combos. But I'm more confused why you think Pantheon is more a AD bruiser than Caster.

I mean they benefit off of tank stats and have more dps rather than burst.

  1. I'm pretty sure anyone with the fighter category can benefit off tank stats. Talon is secondary fighter might I mention.
  2. Pantheon is burst. His combo of W-E-Q is basically burst. E deals double damage to champions and his spear hits really freaking hard, too much to be considered anything but burst to me.
  3. You forget his E passive, which is an automatic Crit at a target who is at 15% or below their max health

In my experience with Pantheon, he needs to end fights fast. The longer the fight goes, the more likely he is to lose the battle. He is not a duelist, not in this meta. He is not a bruiser automatically, he can benefit from some bruiser items, but to be honest his kit is really old and only a few items directly benefit him. item 3071 is the main item he benefits from, with item 3035 coming after. In my experience, his best hope is to stun his opponent, burst him with his E and Q. If that doesn't kill him but he's low, stab him to death (which Zed can also do since his passive starts at opponents below 50% of their health). If it's not and you pounced say, MasterYi or the ADC, pray you can kill them or hope you have flash to escape. In teamfights I usually look for the squishiest and lowest health enemy and spear them to death.

I don't know what DPS is defined as in league, but my experience doesn't feel like DPS. It feels like burst. He doesn't have an overloaded kit, his kit can be pretty unsatisfying though (I dislike his E active and his W. One second stun that can be knocked back and single targeted enemy only). Compare that to say, Ekko who has a longer stun that is an AoE IF he jumps into it. That's the difference, not that it's stronger, it's that it can be stronger with risk.

Pantheon is an AD caster. One with a normal (or possibly underloaded if we look at a lot of champions played) kit.
