Top Lane is Just Volunteer Work Anymore

Top is where people volunteer to be as far away from anything significant going on in the game as physically possible. There is almost nothing to do in the lane. Farm and try not to die. If you can kill the enemy top, do so, but don't try too hard. Farm is more important. Also, ward entry points for ganks. That's all there is to playing top.

It doesn't really help anyone on the team though. Top just safeguards their turret and spends as much of the game as possible AFK farming.

If anyone on the team screws up elsewhere, top can't really do much about it because then enemy top gets a lead while allied top leaves lane to try and help out.

If the team does decent or even awesome then top is just there. They can get involved, but they don't have to, made almost irrelevant by the rest of their team.

It's sad to see what top has been reduced to becoming. An outpost..a lonely little outpost that requires one volunteer to sit there and twiddle their thumbs.
