Old vs New [Discussion and Debate]

I don't know if this is something I need to bring to the public but I like playing the older champs. Now I do like playing the newer champs as well (Gnar Gnar, Yasuo Yasuo, etc.) but that is just that.

I play Veigar Veigar, Swain Swain, Teemo Teemo, Poppy Poppy, and more from the older generation because they seem to be fun to me. I like how they are.

The old and new champs are respectfully placed in the order as would follow the release on the LoL champion game sever. That is to me this is how they are ranked.

From Gnar Gnar to Shen Shen are the new champs.

From Kog'Maw KogMaw to Annie Annie are the old champs.

And yes I know that Swain is technically a new champ but I still prefer the old.

Old champs are more likely to be a single trick pony sort of a deal, with moments of INSANE power but less to do in the interim (Veigar's combo vs what he does between combos IE nothing) while new champs tend more to have a standard gameplay "style" of stuff they're usually doing. They may have "optional" big combos but it's not their whole purpose of being. A few exceptions exist (for example Old champion Ryze vs new champion Darius) but the trend is clear.

I tend to prefer the new style as while there are highs which may not reach as high as the extreme Annie one shots or Kat pentakills, they tend to feel more complex like Gnar or Yasuo.

I agree with MrScotty here, as League of Legend evolves so does its champions. Newer champs are more "skill-based", have more variation and more robust play styles instead of a straightforward way to play.

New champs are best champs.

For me personally, older champs retain their appeal for longer. I also (re)discover that I like old champions more often than I do newer champions. This might just be on the specifics of the champions, and how the meta shifts, but, for example, I have Yasuo and Braum, neither of them have the same appeal to me as they did upon release. Jinx, while I still love her, has kind of fallen to a third tier pick for me. On the other hand, I still play Tristana, and she was the first champion I had. I discovered that I actually like Ryze, Twisted Fate, Olaf, and Alistar, after initially not enjoying any of them. Maybe I'll come back around to Yasuo and Braum eventually, I don't know.

the new champs allow for more play, the old ones really aren't very fancy in my opinion
