One thing I notice that holds MANY players back (Safety nets)
Not a click bait title, an actual thing I began to notice as I met many new people this year. I noticed the people who are good players, but for some reason are hard stuck in a single elo when they should at least be climbing a division or two but arent. One thing that greatly holds them back, is something I like to call "Belief Safety Nets". I'm not saying this is the soul reason people are stuck, it is always a big bucket of many reasons, but I feel this is a topic that does not get discussed to much so I really want to bring some light on it.
So what is a Belief Safety Net? A belief Safety Net is when a player through a series of many games, losses and wins, has acquired a series of beliefs on what they feel is corect and it becomes a core piece of knowledge they rely on. Now some beliefs in your safety net are good, and may be a core reason in why you had the success that you did. But one thing that you must do. Is the moment you find yourself at a 50 50 percent win rate or lower, you need to challenge your beliefs. You need to say "their is a flaw in my beliefs and I need to find out where that flaw is".
For example I have a friend whom firmly believes that Electrocute is amazing on Ahri, despite many players preaching how strong Aery or Comet are. The cool downs are much shorter, they are very easy to apply, and it really helps out your lane phase. You can't really talk him out of electrocute and he fails to see the value in other rune pages than his own personal set up. I am not saying Electrocute is bad either, I am simply saying, ones options should always be open to change. Ive had a few discussions with him on a few things, and he is very hard to pull out of his beliefs.
He is resistant to change, resistant to leave his "safety net", people fear leaving the safety net, for they fear if they leave it, they will get even worse, they found something they think works and they want to stick with it. But my friends, unless you are acquiring a 55 percent win rate or higher, even if you have a 80 percent win rate, you should always challenge what you believe, and leave your eyes open to other strategies.
Don't tunnel on a single belief, the best players in this game are the ones who could adapt.
