Full magic pen Elise is best Elise.

DISCLAIMER: PROBABLY LATE TO THE PARTY (Hypetrain?) BUT WHO CARES

Okay, maybe not best Elise but definitely the funniest. I'm NOT a very good Elise player and yet I could blow up Brand and MF with ease.

Try it out if you get the chance. It's super fun. The only quip is that Elise can't get out her rotation very fast. But it's still worth definitely worth trying if your team doesn't need a tank.

-> OP!

P.S. I don't actually know who/what popularized MP Elise, so I didn't check any build if there's an "Actual" one. :P

I find Liandry's Sorc Abyssal to be wonderful on her - that said, not as big a fan of Void Staff. When you have (essentially) 50 flat magic pen, the 35% magic pen on Void Staff is totally overkill unless you're going up against very bulky targets. If you want to kill the enemy ADC or mage, it's completely unnecessary. I did the math and even an ADC with MR per level runes will have only 7 magic resist against flat magic pen Elise at level 18, at which point Void Staff really isn't contributing much. Better off with a flat AP option IMO.

EDIT: Didn't even take magic pen runes into account. You could pretty much be dealing true damage to the ADC with that build - Void Staff ends up being worthless.

Magic Pen is best on her. Now that Spiderling damage is magic, there is no reason to think otherwise, especially since her old build was MPen (Sorcs + Liandry was "core").
