The autofill system was implemented to reduce queue time, but it did the opposite

AquariusGine··49 votes·2,695 views

Because people who get autofilled keep leaving mid champion selection. And therefore overall queue time is almost always extended.

Autofilled people do not enjoy their games, this makes the League of Legends experience poor+queue times are longer. Honestly from the way I see it, it's a lose-lose situation. [sg-lulu]

Let us wait so everyone gets their desired role, not only will people be happier but queue times will actually be overall shorter!

I agree , at least they could make it so that you can choose one role that you cant be autofilled into

since autofill protection has been bugged for a long time I always dodge when I get autofilled , prefer to take a 15 min time out over playing a boring game

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

Then everyone but us support mains says they don't want support and you might as well just remove autofill.

Woodakoodashooda5 votes

I ask to trade for jungle or top if I am filled. If the answer is no then I will dodge if my dodge timer is low enough.

If I get filled ADC, I dodge no matter the timer if no one wishes to trade. I'd even take support over ADC. You do NOT want me as your ADC...EVER! I suck at kiting and I am not very good at multi-tasking (farm lane by last hitting minions, keeping an eye on enemy support and adc so as to not die, keeping track of where allies are especially my support and jungle, and checking the mini map every 2 seconds just to make sure there are no MIA's that my allies neglected to ping). Seriously, I freaking HATE being ADC and I won't do it ever again!

Xonra1 votes

What's the point of dodging though? Don't you still get autofilled anyways? (I've literally never voluntarily dodged because I don't really care that much, which is why I'm asking).

If you get autofilled and dodge, then get autofilled and dodged etc, aren't you just pointlessly making the wait longer for you?

do u click on your target to auto attack? If so, that's probably why u r not good at

because you are forced to pay soo much attention on trying to accurately get ur cursor on the correct target more than any other role, and ur brain just simply cant afford to give those stuff more attention.

In [Settings]>>[In-game]>>[Hotkeys]>>[Player Movement], I simply use [Player Attack Move Click] (assigned on button A) which will aa the target nearest to cursor, instead of the default [Player Move Click] which requires the cursor to be precisely on your target. With bit more adjustments on both LoL settings and laptop settings, depending on in-game circumstances I can even kite at 2.0 attack speed as Vayne on laptop touchpad cuz i dont have to pay attention to cursor precision. i still suk at vayne mechanics tho due to not having enough games on her

Everytime this topic comes up I'll say the same: Queue times will go up drastically if they remove autofill. That's especially true the higher you climb.

Nobody wants to wait for an hour to get into a game that lasts 25 minutes. But that will happen simply because the numbers difference between supports and all other roles will create an insane backlog. Supports will get into a game the second they hit the queue, a midlane main might wait for a full hour.

Name one time the average queue timer was ever 60 minutes or more for any elo, including challenger. Go ahead. I'll wait.

EDIT: Here's a graph of the average wait timers for every elo. Before and after autofill.

He still hasn't given me a time where queue timers were above even 30 minutes on average. Much less 60 =| quite the claim he made.

"Nobody wants to wait for an hour to get into a game that lasts 25 minutes. "

"wait for an HOUR"

Does he believe the reddit meme where everyone is challenjour? Because even challenger players weren't waiting an hour unless maybe during the slowest possible part of the day/night.

Xonra3 votes

The ONLY people who have legitimate high queue times are in challenger. Below Diamond there is literally no point talking about queue times to be blunt, and I scratch my head at people claiming auto fill is needed for lower elos (seeing that all of them actually increased with auto fill).

Xonra3 votes

It shows that every elo below diamond went UP (which is the vast majority of players playing ranked).

Not sure wtf you are going on about anything ego related. Facts are facts. You however seem impervious to them and are spouting nonsense.

What is egoistic about wanting to have fun in a videogame you play for your enjoyment in your hard-earned free time? Our Western society is way too filled with work and other obligations as is already.

Lauchmelder1 votes

You know what, I'm done with you people.

Fine, remove autofill.

Then also remove pick preference and go back to season 4 matchmaking as compensation.

I'd like to see how much you will like that.

I can play all roles to a level of 'i don't feed'. You probably can't, that's why you guys hate autofill.

EkyonKun1 votes

Maybe our definition of fun isn't just "not feeding"

Has this thought crossed your mind, once? This is not a rhetorical question. I'd like to know.

Lauchmelder1 votes

Legit answer:

Yes I have thought of that and I call that mentality absolute crap. You don't need to be carrying every game, this is the kind of bullshit mindset that gets you stuck in your elo.

Play other roles, see what people do wrong from another perspective (don't flame them), figure out how YOU can avoid making those mistakes and get better.

Here's a question of my own: How often did you get autofilled in your last 100 ranked games?

For me it was 4 times. Autofill isn't the problem here , it's a garbage mindset that is. I queue mid + top.

Who said anything about carrying? Maybe I just DON'T feel like playing adc/jungle/support. Maybe I want to try out Brand, so I queue mid/support and them BAM autofilled straight to jungle.

Here's a question of my own: How often did you get autofilled in your last 100 ranked games?

Here's a better question. How many games have you played with an autofilled player in it? You don't have to BE autofilled for autofill to ruin the fun in the game. This is how we get support Yi's who don't buy sightstone.

And all that aside, we still don't have a proper reason to have autofill outside of Master and Challenger. Maybe diamond, that's debatable, but in bronze-platinum, it only hurts game quality while making you wait longer. That's it. That's all it's doing right now.

Lauchmelder1 votes

Don't bother. You're right. I should've ignored players who are too lazy to learn other roles from the beginning. I'll start now, BEK helps a lot there.

The hell does the old pick order system have to do with wanting to remove autofill? The point is that below diamond autofill literally serves no purpose, lowers the quality of the game for all players and is counterproductive to what it was intended to do, namely lowering queue times.

Leave it in place at the performance levels where it fulfills it's intended purpose and where one can reasonably expect people to play all roles somewhat competently and be competitive enough to be willing to autofill for the sake of winning the game (so diamond+) and just remove it from the more casual leagues where people play primarily to have fun with the champions and roles they enjoy (everything gold and lower at least. Platinum could be up for debate).

Also, yes, I can play most roles without feeding extremely hard (yes, even support. My worst role is actually mid). That doesn't mean I enjoy all of them however. And as a casual silver with a busy life outside of League I feel I should not be forced to spend my hard earned free time playing a role I didn't queue up for, especially if the system that does so has been proven to be counterproductive.

Xonra3 votes

That's funny cause I'm in SILVER and my queue times went up. Not down...up. There is no reason to have fucking autofill in no Diamond+ lol It's pointless.

I WAS a support main but I actually play it LESS now, cause I hate being FORCED to play it instead of wanting to. So I play anything else when I actually have a choice, then play support to get it over with. It makes queue times longer, not shorter, and anyone (including Riot) saying otherwise are flat out lying.

Xonra3 votes

No idea what you mean, cause I totally need Autofill for my 1:20 queue times in Silver. It is SUPER important to get people in games as fast as possible by forcing people to play roles they don't normally play, cause the queues are SO long in Silver that you need to rush people into bad roles. /s

I think it might help Silver-Diamond more. People in bronze do not want to play support and Challenger needs autofill because their queue times are really long

Tortunga7 votes

Nobody wants to play support in Silver-Diamond as well. They won't dodge but often play a champion from their main role as a support (Like Sion support for a top laner, Or Xerath/Velkoz from a mid laner).

In challenger autofill makes games feel a lot more one-sided. While i'm not a challenge player myself I have heared streamers say that some games are just flat out decided by how many autofillers you get.

Xonra2 votes

Well that's not true, I like playing support. However there is NO POINT to auto fill in silver. My queue times are just as long with or without autofill. It is just an arbitrary thing to have people play support for some reason. My Queue times went UP since auto fill in general compared to before, and I played a lot more support before I was forced to (I don't bother anymore to be fair cause I am forced to play it every third game now anyways).

As you just said as well, autofill is terrible in higher elos cause if you are a jungle main or top main for example, being put in support I imagine makes games REALLY dumb. Support is really important, and putting someone in there that doesn't know how to play it (especially in a meta...still...where bot is super important) is such a bad idea.

Thta they are trash, and not good, every game is winnable, and carriable.

Yea, so I'm not going to treat the streamers, or challenge players any different. They should get good. If they are that high and can't work together.. maybe they dont deserve that elo.

And before anyone says "but they're challenger!" that's a copy pasted response by someone in plat who said the same thing the streamer in challenger did, and I simply copy pasted the response they got who everyone upvoted as correct.

So yea, challenger or not, they dont deserve the elo if that's their reasoning.

Xonra2 votes

It doesn't accomplish anything in Silver. I have just as long Queue times (comparitively) with or without autofill. It is completely pointless and just makes every 3rd game annoying. Diamond+ Yes. Silver, literally no point. It doesn't change queue times in a positive way, it just pointlessly adds a frustration point.

Sraeg20131 votes

Challenger requiring autofill is a solution to an artificially created problem.

Race My Jayce3 votes

Bruh im from Diamond 2. And literally autofill determines games.

You got the autofilled Support first timing a raka vs a taric 400 games this season support? Welp gg bot lane, mines well ff@15 because bot is just gonna get demolished and game will be over is no time due to how snowbally this game is.

I don't see what you're talking about, my queue times are much shorter. Sometimes Ill have a dodge or two but its somewhat uncommon.

Xonra2 votes

That's literally false, even by the statistics Riot shared with their fancy graphs. Bronze, silver, Gold, and Plat ALL went up with the introduction of auto fill. Diamond and masters went down an average of 3-5 minutes, and that was OFF PEAK.

So I call shenanigans, as that is factually false.

InfinitexMortal3 votes

I have actually done this very often last season and its a bad idea. Figured hey I can play every role in the game decently if i take autofilled teammates roles we will have a higher chance of winning. FALSE. The majority of the time the autofilled player does nothing but feed all game even though you swapped them and instead of YOU being in the role you gave them and actually winning it and carrying games, you are stuck support watching them lose the game for you. [zombie-brand-facepalm] If someone gets autofilled carry them in your main role. If the autofiller dodges decline queue and restart time or very often you will be thrown in their position. Never give your main role up to a crying autofilled person. It makes it harder for you to carry them when they flop. [poppy-wink] Also contrary to popular belief selecting FILL does not mean you will not get autofilled players. You will get filled and still possibly get autofilled players on your team putting you at a double disadvantage. [zombie-brand-mindblown]

I don't want to trade when I'm not autofilled, and I don't even bother asking when I play support cause exactly 2 people (maaaaybe 3) since auto fill has been implemented traded me, and 2 of them were a duo (this during DQ).

These days I very rarely see people even ask.

Xonra2 votes

I'll fully admit I am one of said people. No reason I want to trade a role I want to play a game after being forced to play one I don't.

InfinitexMortal1 votes

Cuz that always goes so well*[sg-lulu]*

Xonra1 votes

Yeah, as nice as this sounds, if I'm playing a role I finally want, especially a game after I just got auto filled, I'm not switching with a role I don't want to play. That is the majority of people.

You are delusional to believe otherwise.

Salron1 votes

While anecdotally I agree with you Riot probably has their own internal data on this and know which is faster

Still hate autofill though

HungryJack6191 votes

This is why I simply took the time to learn to support. To be honest, looking at it relative to other players, I'm probably a better supp than I am a jungler. Sure I'm good at jungle, but is every jungle main. So if I get filled supp against someone filled supp, I'm gonna stomp on them because I took the time to get good at support, because it is literally the only role I have ever or will ever be filled into.
