If plants are going to stay, blasting cone will *need* better animation

Zero Skill Tank··89 votes·3,404 views

I'm not one of plant-haters, I'm not sure about them, but pretty much willing to give them a chance.

But if they are going to stay, in-flight champions can't be left looking that silly. Walking animation mid-air looks really bad on most champions.

I get that making animations for all champions would take a lot of resources, but that again it could be re-used to make all the push-backs in the game look smoother, like Gragas barrel or so.

TL;DR

Rito pls

Zac I see no issue?

Yeah lol I've just meant to post him there. I don't own him but saw him in few ARAM games just jumping on us from fog of war with animation of him walking in air. Hard to take that seriously.

I've seen one where he flops around like a dead fish in mid air. Boy is zac funny or what?

Zac Everyone's a critic.

Considering they had the resources to do animations for capturing points on Dominion they can definitely take their time to make knockbacks look smoother on all champions.

I hope so.

Well Dominion was considered a permanent game mode with objectives that take about 5 seconds to capture so..yeah no choice there really.

You misunderstood me, I meant that its funny how things go from permanent to not. My writing is worse than my reading

Fair enough.

Bear in mind, the "Capture beams" look like something someone just starting in animation could do. We have basic tools now that can make that effect and better too.

Id be more worried about a tank fest meta coming back than about plants tbh lel

Hrd2H1t12 votes

is tank meta really a bad thing, though? it promotes teamwork and good team composition as opposed to, for example, marksmen meta which promotes getting one lane hella fed

Penns3 votes

As someone that pretty much exclusively plays assassins, hell yeah lol. But a "meta" like the Iceborn/Sunfire/Grasp on everything is bad in general imo.

The Governer7 votes

Tank meta doesn't promote teamwork. It only promotes brawling among tanks, which is very uninteractive and disables many champions in the game. It does nothing to fix the game and is never the best meta to begin with.

The best meta is every single class being viable and prominent under different specific circumstances, not tank meta or marksman meta or mage meta or assassin meta.

Will such a meta ever be possible?

They are going to be removed the next season anyway. Why bother?

I said the samething about Poppy's ultimate. It looks like they just skitdaddle away in the sky.

I agree with this. My xin looks like he is doing the running man mid air and not actually flying like he is.

you think xin looks ridiculous? try Cassiopeia...

I think it looks hilarious, just too slow.

Most champions already have proper animations or poses! Riot can simply reuse the animations that are used when champions are sprinting most of them look like a champion is dashing/flying anyway!

I think we need to focus on the direction blast mechanic, it goes off when you auto attack it instead of just going off when you walk in a general direction on it, I get that it was built that way so you could save them for later, but sometimes due to this mechanic you blast in a completely different direction than what you wanted.

Epicanian4 votes

you do realize it blasts you in the opposite direction of the way you are facing when you auto attack it? it's really easy to aim, you just turn your back to where you want to go. FURTHERMORE, they give you a nice red indicator of where you will land when you mouse over the plant. If it exploded when you walked over it, you would constantly accidentally blast yourself back when trying to walk past it, or accidentally blow your allies into the enemy team. This system is much, much better.

Yeah but in the heat of the moment you're not gonna aim very well, It should just blast you in the direction of you mouse.

No, it's a skill thing, it's meant to be something you learn how to work around, instead of being extremely easy to use.

It requires you to position in a way where the enemy is less confused about where you may have gone, instead of you just choosing one random direction they may have to guess if you were in Fog for a split second, even if you could only have feasibly went to a certain side of the cone.

Tis a nice day1 votes

There's going to be a good deal of unintentional blasting if they trigger automatically from proximity.

Epicanian1 votes

I agree it looks so stupid and clunky

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

i think its funny but the plants are a little buggy

xxxDogmanxxx1 votes

Lol, you should see XinZhao flying because of the blasting cone. He looks like he's moonwalking in midair while flailing his spear.

Captain Aishi1 votes

don't change the actual animation, but just rotate the 3d models head over heels as if they were doing a cartwheel in midair :P

Yαmi1 votes

I'm ok with the plant that gives you vision and the one which gives you health (i don't even know the names).. but about the "blast cone" i'm confused. i would like riot to remove blast cone honestly.

WinTheWarOnPants1 votes

i agree with OP. we should remove all the plants.

NeverLost1 votes

Plants are fine. They actually feel like a pretty natural addition. You just haven't adapted yet.

To be fair, trying to get smooth knockback animations for every champ is going to be hard. Especially when this game doesn't work on any ragdoll physics. A game like Overwatch for example can do that because the models are easily manipulated through ragdoll physics. It's still going to look awkward when a champ gets pushed away because it would look like they're being pushed the complete opposite direction due to potentially only having one knockback animation.
