Doesn't look like it's that bad. Does place a bit more into his late and out of his early, which I think was what Riot always wanted.

60% of the old damage in lane and dramatically reduced window to use the proc at all stages? that's pretty dramatic for a passive that felt like a bigger part of lucian than his damage spells.

Kuroi864 votes

If it's that bad then Riot will buff it back up a little. The best way to make them see is to keep playing him and show them the problem.

Work is still under way. :P

it's not like lucian often waited more than 2 seconds to use his passive. He gets in range rotattes and 100-0s you with impunity once he has a few items and can do it again

I think Riot is doing a better job hitting healthy nerfs (unless they really need to gut a champion and look at them later)

Alpharite1 votes

This nerf isn't "healthy". Lucian's winrate is already sub-50%. All of rhe complaints are just QQ.

when will the day come when people realize that winrate means nothing.

49.97% last I checked, hardly alarming.

Besides, Lucian didn't need a nerf because he was winning too many games. He needed a nerf because he is, at the highest levels of play, just flat out good at everything. He's a lane bully, he's got a super powerful mid game, and he's still very strong late game (very bursty with how his spells and passive work). Top that off with the fact that he's got insane wave clear (his passive and ult do extra damage to minions) and high mobility makes a lot of picks obsolete (Sivir: High waveclear, low mobility. Ezreal: High mobility, low waveclear). Essentially, Lucian crowds out other picks and is just a jack of all trades, end all sort of champion; if you look back at competitive play for the past year or so, Lucian's been there every single step of the way (also why Lee Sin, Kha'Zix, Orianna, Thresh, etc. are a bit problematic even though all of them have sub 50% win rates. There's been more support diversity and they're changing the jungle a lot to address the Lee/Kha problem; mid and ADC are the two roles where it's always been Ori/Lucian + whatever FOTM pick rises up before they get gutted by Riot. Heck, even mid lane has more diversity; basically any team composition that doesn't revolve around an ADC hypercarry, Lucian fits into).

I say the nerf is healthy because it shaves off some of Lucian's more oppressive power without gutting him completely; he's still going to be a lane bully, just not as oppressive. The time limit on his passive still fits in with how he'll use his passive, but limits abuse cases where he could do something like Q, wait for his cooldown, double shot + Q + doubleshot (he usually builds a little CDR and it has a 5 second cooldown at rank 5/lvl 9).

They need to reduce dmg on high mobility char overall, Lucian is a good start but there other char who need it.

Kuroi862 votes

Honestly, I think the utility ADC' need some tweaking to help them scale better. I mean that's the big thing with ADC is how well they can scale into the late game.

CaptnJakSparrow15 votes

I don't care what anyone says. I played two games with Lucian, and his passive made him way way way too strong. It's not even fair to play him.

Alpharite1 votes

Yes, because 2 games give you sufficient expertise to speak about the balance of a champion.

IT only took me 10 minutes to know release Zyra was broken. So, yes it kind of does, actually. The vast majority of issues people were having with Lucian was them simply building wrong and not utilizing the combos properly. However, if you build correctly, and you combo correctly, no other ADC will EVER 1v1 him. Not even endgame Vayne, or Tristana. On top of that, you can actually get a triple kill off of just his ult if people are dumb and don't build any tankiness :|. Simply put, his passive needed toned down, a lot.

Alpharite1 votes

If you can't beat a Lucian as Vayne or Trist late game, then you're doing something very, very, very wrong.

Oh, really? Tell that to Doublelift back at Summer LCS lol. He tried doing the "vayne outplay dance" And got dunked and forced to retreat due to one q and auto. I'll summarize. Doublelift runs up top lane and pops ult. -Announcer- "OH DOUBLELIFT IS GOING FOR THE OUTPLAY!" -DoubleLift tumbles and gets in an auto.- -Lucian Q Plus auto and drops Vayne for 3/4s her life- -Doublelift freaks out and flashes.- -Lucian chases- -Doublelift runs back to base.- -commentators- "Well, that was short lived."- ((not exact words here.))

Everyone sure loves the words "gutted" and "unplayable", don't they?

FantasySniper7 votes

It's not gutted.

Surely harshly nerfed.

But not gutted.

Besides, will he really care all that much about losing 20/10% AD on his second shot while he still has Spellblade procs and the entirety of his kit left?

Dryditch2 votes

It's not just about the loss of AD. Lucian now has 2 seconds instead of 6 to use that passive. I'd prefer it to be 1 second or half a second, but whatever.

FantasySniper2 votes

So? The average Lucian doesn't hold onto his Gunslinger unless it's to CS in a specific way, and I'm not sure anyone will miss that use.

Ale non è male3 votes

WHAT? Average/Good Lucian can use all day long Gunslinger to win in lane and in mid game and then keep rolling. Lucian late game is strong because of the damage and the fact that he is difficult to kill but this isn't a huge monster(especially cause his ult can miss a lot even when Lucian is put in the best hands)

Alpharite2 votes

People who actually play Lucian don't build triforce. It's a complete noobtrap.

Teridax686 votes

Didn't Riven get an even bigger nerf to her passive in 3.02 and still remain insanely strong?

Bouffon dAnglais2 votes

Again, rocks with water.

You can't compare Riven with Lucian. You just can't.

Dryditch1 votes

Except that they've got just about the same passive--with one stacking once, one stacking 3 times, one proccing on turrets, the other being melee range and only proccing on minions and champions.

Those things are pretty clear points of comparison.

Lucian needed nerfs, but I feel these nerfs go too far. I'd like to see his passive scale 40%/45%/50% at levels 1/7/13 and increase the duration of his passive from 2 seconds to 3.

ProfDrDeath7 votes

Hi, I am Riven. My passive does the same as Lucian's, except not applying on-hit effects and crits twice. Oh, yes, and I am melee ranged.

Hi, I'm RIven, I have 2 moves that give me mobility, hard cc, a shield that scales with my damage, a direct damage steroid, and a ranged execute. I'm also a completely different champ.

Also, Riven's passive duration is 3 seconds, Lucians will now be 2.. plus Riven can reapply and stack the passive 3 times, Luican loses the passive stack the moment he uses another ability. TLDR: Riven and Lucian, although have similar passives, are played MUCH differently.

hi im riven and im more annoying to play against than lucian will ever dream of being

Direwolfiez3 votes

lol Everyone is bitching about Riven, and they don't even remember pre-nerf Riven where she fucked everyone up because of her higher regen and her pre-nerf shield. Better hide your squishies, Riven be killin' errybody.

DayVGaming1 votes

She's broken now with almost no health regen at all, so if anyone tries to tell you she wasn't SUPER broken back then plz just ignore lol

Direwolfiez1 votes

The point is, she's nowhere near as big a problem now as she used to be. If she was truly broken, she'd be spammed every game for freelo, and since I haven't seen or heard of that happening, I'm going to assume that she's not really broken, just strong.

Melee champions atm need all these things just to deal with some ranged champs :/

I'm kind of confused on the passive duration. It says on surr@20 that it is down to 2 seconds from 6. What does this mean? 2 seconds is how long the passive takes to finish attacking? Or 2 seconds until you can use his passive again? Because I'm positive that his passive never lasted 6 seconds to complete or 6 seconds until he could use it again. Guess I'm just confused a little bit so some clarification would help. Thanks!

ora11 votes

If you don't use it within those 2 seconds it expires. The window during which the second proc is useable is smaller.

Inb4 compensation buff has champions considered minions for Lucian's ult.

Sohleks3 votes

At last the nerf Lucian needed. I didn't even realize he could hold his passive for 6 seconds before. That's BS

TBH though I don't think Lucian will be top tier anymore. That's good. He's had enough... I bet it's gonna be Corki every game now though, with a mixture of Graves and Dravens thrown in

All Lucian ever needed was to either have his early reduced, or his late. We're reducing his early/ mid... Didn't need to bother with all this range and mobility stuff. TBH though if Lucian is gonna be more fair early I wonder if he'd be better off as a 550 range champ again. As a 500 range champ I personally would have removed crit from Lucian passive so he's still his own kind of lane bully (this nerfs Lucian's late game)

Way to destroy the identity of a champion.

I demand my IP back. Riot should do what blizzard does in Hearthstone. When you nerf something this hard, let the people who bought it return it for a refund.

Auryiel7 votes

His identity was being overpowered and overbearing? Nothing's changed, really. He still has empowered AAs after using an ability, he's still the kind of champion who wants to all-in. The shorter passive duration actually cements his identity and makes his E-AA-Q-AA pattern even more core to his overall play pattern. At 6 seconds, it was making Lucian create a zone of great danger, which is pretty much what Cait does when her passive is up. It had no reason to be that long in the first place.
