We need more Leona/Braum-esque champs

Champions who do not deal tons of damage when going full tank with just a item 3071 for a damage item. We need more true tanks, those who can take a lot of hits without needing a loaded kit for damage. They have multiple forms of CC, not stupid high base stats. The could scale armor/mr, not AD/AP. They don't need to be the damage threat, just the threat from their amount of cc should be enough to make opponent question going into fights if they don't have 100% advantage.

not even close. He has high AD scalings and an exicute

Very few tanks care for Black Cleaver. Poppy is the only one who immediately comes to mind, but she generally doesn't even build it.

Quite frankly, you were probably thinking of juggernauts (or other fighters), who often love the item.

Garen Gnar Illaoi are some others. Without it they have pretty bad damage if they go 6 item tank. Not that they have CC per say though.

I hope you're not suggesting those are tanks?

They can be, they have a subclass of tank.

No. Something you need to understand sir is that there are three main classes and many sub classes.

ADC, Mage, Tank. Then you get sub classes.

Fighter (AD) Fighter (AP) Assassin Diver Support (tank) Support (poke) Support (heal) mADC rADC APC Juggernaut Vanguard True tank

EVERY sub class is a combination of two or more of the main classes to some degree, and the main classes are LOOSE broad terms referring to those who do physical damage, those who do magical damage, and those who are durable. There are even other sub classes within the sub classes that refer to specific intended combinations and kit designs. The last three are examples of sub classes which are named due to intended stats and kit.

Saying a juggernaut is a tank or that a diver is an assassin is like saying a fox is the same as a dog.

Right I meant role, not sub class. Garen is/was defined as a pri: Fighter and sec: Tank on the client and wiki. When in the store search for champions, Garen shows up under Fighter as well as Tank.

Garen is a juggernaut. His role is the same as a fighter, however he is a fighter who lacks any instant mobility. All juggernauts lack instant mobility outside of a summoner spell.

Again, saying a juggernaut is a tank is like saying a fox is a dog. Its a combination of, but is entirely different in both USE and PLAYSTYLE.

His Q is an instant movement speed buff you know

Instant mobility. Flashes, dashes, teleports.

A movement speed buff is still considered "immobile" unless its both strong and has 100% uptime. Its for this reason that udyr is considered mobile and volibear is not.

Hmm, I admit that when it comes to roles labels I am no expert. Usually if it has 4300+ health I just call it a tank and move on. Bit I still think that if it has built to have 4k+ health it should fall short in terms of damage, not mobility.

If its got 3500 health and a item 3071, its probably a juggernaut or fighter. Juggernauts have high base and scaling as per their class, which enables them to do a fragton of damage over the course of a long fight. Titanic hydra is also an item you could see with or instead of black cleaver, and it is also a fighter/juggs item. If you see titanic hydra as the only damage item on a regular tank like Braum or Malphite, its because they lack the waveclear needed to push/defend or want to catch people offguard with surprising damage and maybe win a 1v1 with another tank/support/squishywithlowerthanaveragedamage.

Exactly....i hate seeing people complain about tanks dealing damage..then when u see who they are talking about they are not even tanks....they are juggernausts and bruisers. Sure they might have tank as secondary role but most of the ones you see people bitching about are primarily fighters.

Shen is a true tank.......garen is not there is a difference

Those aren't tanks.

Class definititions here

List of champions in each class here

Mega Gnar is a vanguard while Mini Gnar is a marksmen.

Illaoi and Garen and Juggernauts (which is a subclass of fighter).

more champs like thresh: yes. more champs like braum? well... other people may relate to them.

I like your thresh addition.

For myself, I am less interested in simple-kit blunt object champions focused on defending allies (braum) or mindless ball-of-stats divers (leona).

More interested in complex, difficult, high mobility, high outplay potential play-makers.
