How to ask your jungler for help

Dediguise··11 votes·844 views

Yes your lane might be pushed and you might be pressured, but your jungler needs to hear it from you that you are in a position to make use of a gank. While it's his responsibility to have map awareness, he has to show presence everywhere and prevent his jungle from being stolen. And that's assuming he's not counterjungling as well. Every second that your jungle is traveling, he is losing gold and xp. Don't ask them to do something that is going to force them to burn everything to cross the map in time to help you. Especially if you are straight up losing lane. Frankly if you are getting stomped constantly in a 1v1 it's your fault, not the junglers. If you keep losing trades, stop trading.

Secondly if you are asking for a gank don't wait until you have 100 health to do it. Ideally ask while you are backing or if your opponent is very low and if your jungle is nearby. If you need a camp, specify a timeframe. Give them a chance to do what they need to do to set up for a camp. If you need help immediately then you probably waited to long to ask.

Finally if you are 0 and 3 don't expect a gank, at that point the enemy can generally 1v2 and your jungler is better off trying to snowball other lanes.

For the record junglers should be asking their team if they want a gank as well, but both parties are responsible for communication.

You forgot that if they constantly push the lane up, don't cry about not getting ganks.

That too.

My Bronze I duo partner once said, WHY DON'T YOU GANK when he was overextending Yasuo top, when enemy Talon is MIA because their Garen is afk and I'm in botside, getting Tristana and Ahri fed as f and he never asked beforehand. [zombie-brand-mindblown]

When I jungle, I tend prioritize my ganks based on likely hood of success. And Gank Assist is a big factor in that. Can you pin down an enemy to ensure a gank? And this is where I tend to look at ults, and summoner cooldowns. Also, health and mana are a good indicator of how well a gank would work. If your down to 10% HP and no mana. The best I could do is manage the minion wave so that the "team" doesn't lose the minion gold, or lose a tower.

I will probably say this to Junglers though. If the enemy escapes your gank by using their flash. You should probably return to that lane as soon as your ult's off cooldown. Knowing an enemies flash is down, is a big factor in whether a gank scores a kill.

Huge difference.

I can be pushed up in lane, 0/0 both sides, and I can ask for a gank.

It takes more than communication. If one party isn't willing to participate in helping an even lane then there is a huge problem there. Junglers SHOULD be aware of opportunities, even without being asked. Sometimes only one gank is needed to shift the pressure for that team.

EDIT; also, you're constantly burning EXP and Gold when you travel between camps, and with Riot's pathing being the way it is, might even be longer.

Yes they should be aware, BUT you as the laner have far more insights into the micromechanics of that lane. The jungler can't watch every trade and shouldn't have to keep track of YOUR cd's. Mostly though asking for a gank in a timely manner shows that you have the basic knowledge and skill to keep track of all of these mechanics and gives the jungler more confidence in your abilities, which results in more frequent and more successful ganks. The point of this post was not to displace blame, but rather to encourage players to be accountable for their own actions as well.

Yes the jungler could have communicated better, but so could you. As always, instead of blaming others, look at what you could have done better first.

As Jungle Nasus, I always look for ganking opportunities throughout the game (especially after level 3). Only thing that grinds my gears the most is when teammates push their lanes too hard early. Now I have to worry about which lane the enemy jungler is going to gank. :/

Plus I enjoy using wither xD.

Tl;dr: If YOU ask for a gank, it's YOUR responsibility to set up the gank so it is successful. Don't just say "I need a gank", then do nothing, then complain because your jungler is not a magician.

As an aside, I personally try to play this way: I consider that I won't have any gank, and I tell the jungler to not come into my lane (EDIT: which is Top) and waste time, to only come if they are sure it's an easy kill. There are a few exceptions for specific match-ups, and in that case, I give a time frame. For instance, Garen vs Teemo needs a gank level 4-5, or Garen vs Darius can make a useful gank around level 7-8. Say it early, and remind the jungler 2-3 waves before the time to gank.

Of course, when you're losing lane because of a few mistakes and you didn't plan it, it's harder to set up a gank and yet it's always appreciated to receive jungler's help to get you back on track. But keep in mind that he may be able to spend his time more efficiently somewhere else, and it's still your responsibility to at least not push + have enough HP when he comes to actually participate in the fight.

I think the top things that irk me the most when I'm jungling are when:

  1. I'm spam-pinged for ganks when I have no mana/low health.

  2. I'm not leashed and pinged EVERYWHERE on the map around 10-15 minutes in when I am at MINIMUM 3 levels below everyone else, including the enemy support.

  3. I am always on the literal opposite side of the map when they don't ask, nay, they DEMAND help NOW.

  4. I'm expected to gank when the enemy is at full health and they have freezed the lane to be HIGHLY in favour of the enemy's proximity to their tower.

  5. They adamantly refuse to engage first, expecting me to somehow 100-1 them so they can just stroll up at their leisure to auto-attack them for the kill credit. Until then, they continue farming as though nothing is happening.

By the way, my jungle main is Evelynn. Don't expect me to lock the enemy down with hard CC. Rylai's only does so much. Use your so-called "advanced human brain" to figure out I can't do -everything- for you.

Glad to see someone is trying to help out with the PSAs on getting your jungler involved in your lane.

I wrote this a while back, maybe it has some additional insights. Its a lot longer, and expands on the points mentioned by Dediguise. Think about looking it over if you want to see a longer explanation of getting the jungler to gank your lane.

Warning, it is long, and old, but still relevant.
