@Riot Can Kassadin get his silence back? Null Sphere rework idea.
It has become a running joke for the old Void-bro since his rework with his joke referencing his ability to silence, but I'm hoping to can get his old bread and butter back in a more balanced design.
A big thing for me for the original three Void champs,
, is that all of them had the theme of being able to silence. This was the original linking theme for the Void when it was first released, and while the Void has splintered off more as the seasons have progressed, I feel it is important that the three original Void champs, The First, The Ward, and The Harbinger, all keep their silences.
"Nilok! Why do you want to make Kassadin OP again?!" I don't, while I do want Kassadin to have his silence again, I don't want him to have it on such a reliable ability that curbs his power too high and makes him impossible to balance again.
I suggest reworking Kassadin's Q, Null Sphere, to be a line skill shot that can damage through minions, and stops and silences the first champion it hits.
"But Nilok! That would mean that even if I stood behind minions to block, I would still be silenced too easily!" You make a fair point, so I also suggest that on top of having reduced damage for passing through minions, the silence duration would also be reduced, just say 50% efficiency just off the top of my head. This would discourage Kassadin from sitting back and toss his Q to get free harass, but to jump into his target to assure that he gets full effect of his damage and silence. This synergies well with his current kit as he already wants to jump in and be in melee range, even as a mage.
"But what happens to his spell shield?" I... honestly don't know. Kassadin's spell shield was a direct response to the removal of his silence to keep him as the League's anti-mage. I feel so long as the silence isn't too reliable or potent, it could still have a place in his kit, possibly in his maligned Nether Blade.
TLDR: Rework Kassadin's Q into a line skill shot with a silence on first champion, but has reduced damage and silence duration if shot through minions.
