Got to diamond with him in less than 60 wins, had a few oddball games and 41 of the games from my Veigar stats are pre-rework where I did terribly.

Also...
http://puu.sh/hoUtT/136c261885.jpg Ironic isn't it? anyways, so for everyone saying Veigar is bad, he ISN'T. 9/10 of you don't even play Veigar and if you do it's not in high competitive levels.

LUDENS ECHO IS AMAZING. VEIGAR IS AN AMAZING TEAMFIGHTER.

Riot, you did a good job with Veigar.

I'll agree with this.

In patch 5.4, he WAS utter garbage.

His Q was slow as fuck, his stun took as much time as his W to appear, no stopping dashes, not as much Q range, less passive regen, and most importantly, he had no ludens echo.

Do you still think that his W feels a little weird now? I feel that his old E W Q R combo was really broken, and I actually like the changes to his E, but I think his W needs a change.

Riot have tried to put a lot of his power into his ultimate. Funnily enough, I do wish it was dodge-able. It doesn't feel like you really earned any kills you get with it. You just pressed R on a target at around half health, and got the kill. Now you should wait until it comes off cooldown.

Riot basically cassiopiad veigar, instead of making his kit stick to its core theme, they just overloaded insane amounts of power on one ability. They fucked up his kit so bad its disgusting, even if he is powerful.

Loken Stoneheart12 votes

He's statistically strong.

Doesn't make his E and W feel like... not trash. Especially his W. At least his E works as zoning in teamfights.

This is just the Cassio rework all over again. Make a super-trash kit, overload a single skill, and then call it a done day once their winrate looks good, even if the champ doesn't play even close to the same and pretty much just mashes the same key the whole game because they have 2 other basic abilities that do nothing.

Riot, you did a good job with Veigar.

I still disagree, but it's not about power level for me. I'm fine with that. It's that they loaded everything into his Q as compensation for that famous "compensation" and now so much of his kit revolves around that stacking instead of the bonus AP being a bonus.

I'm rather shocked that someone who likes Veigar as much as you seem to, can stand to play him. I just can't anymore because he is now the most non-interactive champion I've played this side of a Heimerdinger vs. Singed lane.

lB2kGRlc8y3 votes

A heimerdinger lane is a godsend for veigar, never have to worry about being ganked, and theres plenty of last shots to get after lane minions are cleared.

A fully upgraded E is still one of the best stuns in the game. On a basic ability. I have the feeling he did more than his fair share of peel and cc.

But on such a huge delay, it isn't a stun. Its like a 15 second CD zoning tool. If you ever, ever stun anyone with it, they were either already stunned, or actually just not paying attention. Ziggs has the same kind of zoning pressure up every 6 seconds.

Oh, and that useless "Can't dash through his E" buff? Yeah, it also stops anybody on your team from using a knockback to knock whoever it is into your team. Blitz pull? Naw, it stops at the edge of the wall. Good old hyper nerfs disguised as buffs.

FirstSergeantBim2 votes

Well hey man, that's the beauty of mind games and timing. You don't need instant cast CC if you know your opponent's needs and can catch them by surprise. From your writing it seems like you're trying to argue against the ability, but I feel like you're only making an argument for it. Most of the player base wants healthy interaction and you can't find that without some kind of, wait for it... counter-play. Yes, there's that word again. If I can use an ability to screw my opponent over without them having a chance to react then what the hell kind of game am I playing and why haven't I moved on yet? That's stupid. Where is the fun in that?

You're criticizing the "Can't dash through his E" buff for prohibiting your allies from making plays, but doesn't that have just as much of a chance to make a better play by pulling the enemy into a stun? Since we all know Veigar's stun will stop an enemy in transit, Blitz can position himself to accommodate that feature and add another lock to his already robust combo of CC. Furthermore, since we all know where Blitz's victim is going to end up, it allows his allies to follow-up on Veigar and Blitz's play without any doubts. Adapt to these new changes and find a way to use them to your advantage, don't just QQ because you're too lazy to open your mind. Your arguments are all situational and you can theorycraft for days, but I'd rather have options full of counter-play than a one-way ticket to stomp town because that kind of fun isn't rewarding.

Counterplay is nice and dandy when everybody has it. But when some champions are built with counterplay on every key and others aren't, it isn't fair-- and that is the state of the game right now. So, no. No I don't want to see counterplay in his kit. Not until they give every single other bull**** champion the same kind of counterplay. I want to see 2 second delays on everyone's skillshots.

You could already pull the enemies through the stun. It would cause them to be stunned and still go to you. Now it causes them to not be pulled, but stuns them. Its distinctly worse because you lose the entire purpose of the Blitz pull or a knockback. It isn't a buff except in very bizarre situations like "oops, pulled Amumu through Veigar's stun." And we already knew where Blitz's target would end up, its always at Blitz. In fact, its just going to confuse people because only Veigar is gonna know about this weird interaction/bug that makes no sense.

Luden's is not mandatory imo. It is a luxury item, really. It's a fantastic item that a lot of people will want to have but mages already have the other two 120 AP items as core, a mana/mana regen item, boots and a likely Void Staff. That leaves one spare slot in a typical build and that won't always go to Luden's. Certain mages synergise amazingly with it so it's close to mandatory on them but others not so much.

I think it's really balanced. And it can't be compared to DFG - this is a damage-spreading waveclear-aiding item, DFG was just single target overkill burst.

LeeDark1 votes

No, it's pretty much core on everyone who used to use DFG. Either you get it, or you fail to kill people.

That's the point. Not every mage used DFG when it was around, so it being mandatory on previous DFG users does not make it a staple for all mages. There's good reason it's popular on previous DFG users and it isn't just "gives them lots of burst woo".

The second the meta shifts and you no longer have the peel necessary for veigar to be relevant, this post will feel like a mistake. Veigar only seems good now because most teems get at least 2 good front liners per game. The fact that veigar still can't duel anyone at all, or contribute much to ganks pre 6 aside from caging someone and using the one ability he can land, make him revolve around enemy mistakes, not personal skill. I can say the laning aspect of him is so much less terrifying, since you don't have to stand in harass range to get your last shots anymore, but he's basically a 2 skill champion during the lane phase. All he has for damage is his q, and his e is primarily for escape.

In the assassin meta he had an instant stun.

I don't know. I don't mind his Q, but It'd be nice if his E and W weren't trash. Just saying "oh he's good now because Riot overbuffed his Q, good job Riot!," is a rather terrible path. Nobody should be complimenting Riot for ruining a champion and then giving them such significant number buffs to their spammy move that they become strong (Cass and Veigar). There isn't any interesting gameplay to be had in having actually only one move. He's less engaging than he ever was before, all you do is sit in lane and spam Q. And then come teamfights, you just mash Q more, and hope someone is idiotic enough to stand still for 2 seconds to get stunned or hit by W.

FirstSergeantBim1 votes

What's wrong with his E and his W? Why do you feel like his Q is over-buffed? I mean, I think there's always room for improvement, but certainly you can concede that they put him in a better place. Can't you?

Isn't it more interesting for Veigar that he can check bushes without waiting an eternity? Isn't it more interesting for Veigar's enemies that they have a chance to react to one of the largest AoE stuns in the game? Isn't it more interesting to Veigar that he can rush straight damage items and doesn't have to mess around with mana regeneration? Isn't it more interesting to Veigar's enemies that they can dodge his Q damage now?

Why are you waiting for anyone to stand still in order to land his E or W? Instead, wouldn't it be more prudent to chain your W with you and your team's CC? It seems like that's a satisfying way to use that kind of an ability. Veigar's W is one-of-a-kind, he's saying that he'll do loads of damage to a bunch of people in one area as long as you can keep them there long enough. Not only that, but he doesn't ask you to pay much in the way of mana and he even gives you the tools to lock someone down long enough to land it. What is not to like about that?! Why is it trash?

I'm beginning to think you Veigar rework naysayers wouldn't be happy with anything even if it was the most brilliant design elements thrust right before your very eyes because none of your arguments hold any weight and none of them make any sense. Help me understand! Please, I beg of you.

Champion Skin3 votes

Well what if your team doesn't really have any CC or what about in lane? Do you need to have a support with Veigar in lane to for him to be able to use and land his W?

And his E while yes it gives the enemy time to react so much in fact that they should never be hit in laning phase unless they mess up... and even if you are somehow able to trap them inside the cage there is still enough room to doge his W

Isn't it more interesting for the enemy to have an opponent just sitting at tower farming minions from as far away as possible with his Q? No?

lB2kGRlc8y1 votes

yea, the Assassin meta was hard for him, but this was before his dueling capability was removed.

Castanean2 votes

Veigar isn't really supposed to be strong in the laning phase though. Though, he can be a pretty damn hard counter to Zed, if you know how to do it. He's also REALLY good at burning flashes. He's not bad, not at all.

Champion Skin1 votes

Hard counter to Zed? Well I can see how Veigar can mess up Zed ult... but I don't see how Veigar would win the poke war against Zed or win early laning against Zed and there is also the fact that Veigar ult's enemy AP scaling is wasted

Castanean2 votes

Well, sure, early Veigar isn't gonna win the early poke war, but if Veigar plays smart and farms until the early mid-game happens, Veigar is going to out-poke Zed by a mile and a half. Not to mention, since Veigar is AP, he can actually benefit from buying Zhonya's. Not that he needs it to kill a Zed, but it could be useful. As for Veigar's enemy AP scaling... Yeah, it's wasted, but you don't need that scaling to kill a champ. I mean, Veigar has TWO abilities with 100% AP scaling. I think that's plenty damage to deal with Zed.
