Does anyone else get annoyed by Riot rewarding mechanically easy champions?

I am talking about the recent changes to Sona, a stupidly easy champion that requires little to no practice in order to play... and Riot is REWARDING HER!? Why exactly? If she was like Chan'ge in SMITE where you have to aim your Q and use your auras correctly, I could understand it but does Riot deliberately empower these champions in order the try and keep children interested in the game?

Its the same thing as Tryndamere and MasterYi, both brain-dead champions that require little-to-no mechanical skill and yet Riot even considers making them so powerful. This is exactly Leagues problem at the moment.

There is absolutely NO REASON to learn harder champions when the easy ones are so stupidly overpowered that nobody will ever play harder champions. As soon as a skill based champion like Syndra comes into the meta, Riot have to beat it out with repeated nerfs (Or in Syndra's case "reworks") in order to make the champion not worth playing.

Syndra is just one example but Riot has done this across multiple roles, promoting easier champions while harder ones collect dust.

I think I know why, Riot want people to feel that players have accomplished something instantly. That way, more people will remain playing the game. Nobody wants to practice, everyone wants instant power gratification and Riot is providing that. However this is simply not sustainable in the long term, Riot needs to put more effort into their dedicated fanbase that actually bothers to learn complicated champions.

I agree. I am always annoyed when they refuse to nerf brokenly overpowered faceroll champs like LeeSin Yasuo

The only reason they don't do this is purely profit based, champions nerfs and reworks are decided by PROFIT and POPULARITY and not through the desire to create a balanced experience.

Unfortunately, the LeeSin fanbase effectively has control over this game, that and other champions as Riot will not make changes to these champions or they will lose profit. But by doing that, its making other people leave the game just because how straight up ridiculous it is.

So Riot are in a catch 22. There is just no point being angry at them, its the players fault for wanting to keep these champions in an overpowered state.

Yasuo actually isn't very strong. He has an extremely weak early game and is vulnerable to champions that can get through his wall like Azir Syndra MissFortune

Yah why would I ever play Vayne when I can play Jhin and 2 shot people with zero skill?

implying vayne takes skill either

Yea its clear Riot is biased towards braindead champions like Sona and Yasuo.

Oooooh LEE SIN WAS MENTIONED! BETTER DOWNVOTE...

This community is so childish, its not even worth discussing. This is why League is failing and why it deserves to fail as a game. The playerbase are just so immature and really unworthy of any the time and effort that Riot puts in with them.

No wonder they ignored you with Dynamic Q, I would ignore this playerbase if they were my customers.

I don't feel that way and I feel that is just an excuse to keep champions like LeeSin at the top of the meta for years. People say "he takes skill", his ONLY skillshot has a low cooldown and the fastest missile speed in the game, so its easy to hit. Plus there are no resource restrictions (Energy cost is really low) and therefore he does not get punished for missing it.

That is honestly how I feel, I feel that Lee Sin players are so desperate to call themselves "skilled", they cannot even consider that their champion is a lot more rewarding and easier that most champions with traditional skillshots and mana problems.

Even Nidalee (a champion that Riot refuses to leave alone) has mana problems and cannot continually spam spears until late game)

I am sorry if you do not see the obvious advantages that Lee Sin has over traditional skillshots from a variety of different classes.

If he required difficult decision making, he would not build the same items every game, would he? But pretty much all Yi's do.

That Lee requires skill is a myth.

Mechanically easy champions does not equal brain-dead champions.... usually the more mechanically easy is the champion the harder is for them to grasp concepts like positioning since they have less tools available for them to correct their mistakes.

If sona misteps she is a dead sona.

If sona missteps she has a heal and a movement speed and can run away while spamming her auto targeting Q

Similarly to Udyr she has a global CD on her abilities so realistically she can't use more than one at a time (I believe the CD is 1 sec) so realistically she will have a heal and hope that is enough time bough so she can activate her MS so she can run away. Half of the times the follow up damage will be enough to kill her shield or not.

I agree, Champions like Syndra Velkoz Elise Leblanc (Especially Leblanc) require alot of skill and knowing your limits. Sure, it's fun to win with the no skill champions, but that's going to get old. Champions like Lux that need less skill in order to actually kill someone (Launch a bunch of stuns until it hits, use the slow move thingy, laserbeam, Dead.) are starting to pop up all over the place.

You could probably blame the Pro scene for this. Pro's abuse a mechanically intensive kit. They get balanced around their mechanics, getting abused. Meaning anyone who can't abuse their mechanics, gets jipped, until a point where the champ gets reworked into a simpler, (but still interesting) verson of itself. (See Ryze)

But presumably, they changed sona to make her less brain dead. It's not like they wanted to simply buff her. (They could have done that with a simple stats buff, but they wouldn't want to cause she already had a high win rate.) They wanted to add more skill into her kit, without actually doing anything to alienate her player base. (Though they continue to alienate Karma's player base, removing skill)

And with the changes in mind, they probably over shot the powercurve, to act as a sort of training wheel, while they curve her power back.

With respect, this game has been out 6 years and you would have thought they'd have enough experience now without using "training wheels" as you said.

Thing about that is, it's hard to find the exact place balance wise, for any champion. (otherwise, we'd have a lot more champs who were balanced on release.) But the big thing is player data. Riot needs player data to make an informed decision. (Data far greater than just the PBE.) And in order to collect this data, it's better for riot to Overshoot than Undershoot.

If a Champs OP, you have a pretty good idea why their OP. But if a champion's UP, it's harder to figure out where the problem is. And Knowing exactly how a champ is going to be played, is going to affect how effective certain buffs will be. Long time ago, I recall them reworking Maokai's ult, in hopes that he could return to the Jungle. But he went top lane instead, and his success skyrocketed. So Riot Overshot the buffs, because they didn't know how he would be used.

It's simply easier, more informed, and more accurate, to nerf a champ from OP than do the exact opposite.
