The excuse for removing mana pots is just so weak

Our decision to remove mana pots goes along the same philosophy as starting items. 100 mana tends to benefit certain types of champions over others (with mana costs being balanced against individual champion kits) and can wildly shift from being a mediocre purchase to a very cost-efficient one. By removing mana pots, we can better balance champion ability costs with the mana regeneration stat while also streamlining the 'sustain game' of League.

Seriously? THAT'S your reason for removing them? Why don't we just remove Health Pots because 150 Health is ALWAYS cost effective no matter who you're playing. Oh wait never mind, they're upping the price by 15Gs. Oh well I suppose that's okay then.

Even with the mana and mana regen changes this is going to seriously gimp so many champion's lanes. I know there's the whole aspect of "Just don't spam" but consider someone like say, Pantheon who RELIES on spamming Q's to wittle down his victim before jumping on them for an early kill. Because that's what he does, he has a strong early like that. Consider Pantheon screwed among many others.

If a Red wants to make an attempt to further justify this change, then go crazy I'll just be here with some popcorn while I sharpen my scythe.

EDIT

So clearly some drones of the hivemind don't like me speaking out against the overlords that be so let me pin a response in here that gave to a commenter on the thread.

I can get why they're removing them but it's such a great example in phoning it in. By that same logic we should also remove health pots because they're TOO efficient. But as I said that argument falls flat because they're upping their price.

So, why not do that to Mana Pots? Up the price. If Riot truly wants buying diversity early then removing items will lessen that (I know they're putting more in but you get my point). Removing them removes one more option available.

So far the compensatory buffs really won't do much to make up for this (Though if they issue more mana compensation buffs/up the ones already in place then that statement will become moot). In fact the only champions that truly benefit from this are manaless champions which are already strong enough thanks to their gates already being limited by how little they can actually gate them. Take the truly resourceless champions, with item 3158 getting a buff to it's CDR they can run even more rampant. I know only a few of the resourceless champions actually take CDR boots but the point is there.

Regardless I still stand by what I think that their justification is weaker than an arthritic matchstick and that removing them is purely lazy.

Again, any Reds that want to make my day, go right ahead.

Well, I'm not dismissing what you're saying OR defending RITO.

But my opinion is that this is the correct way to go. This way, take Pantheon for example. He won't be able to spam his Q's as much without mana pots. So now, he can be balanced so his Q's hurt more early game. That way he can still have his presence.

I simply think it's the correct way to go and allow more buying diversity at the start of the game. That is, of course, assuming RIOT will look at every mana champion early game and balance them now depending how these changes affect their early game.

Not all forms of mana regen will be removed, pantheon will now just have to choose between better spamming to whittle down HP or better all in by having the choice of an expensive flask that refills or his normal start with health pots, faerie charms will also be a common start now.

That, and spam champions will probably have their mana regen amped up to ridiculous levels to compensate. I'd imagine 18-20 Mana per 5 at early levels would be the base for champions like Ryze or Ezreal.

The less there is in the game, the easier it is to balance. But this creates problems that aren't going to be noticed for a while. IMO mana pots were pretty good for snowballing, if you get ahead buying a mana pot can help a lot.

imo, Pantheon needs a rework on his Q anyway. It's so bull shit.
