Can smite prioritize Baron and Dragon instead of champions?

Visigoth··91 votes·3,949 views

Nothing more frustrating than smite hitting a champion because they dashed or blinked onto baron, so your fucking smite hits them and they get a free steal.

Even if they aren't on it, some hitboxes are so bad that it still hits the champion. Please Riot, counterplay shouldn't be just standing over something (see: Thresh Lantern). Also, shouldn't it prioritize the Dragon and Baron anyways? I mean, the original intent of smite is to smite the objective.

It is counterplay to obstruct enemies though.

They are putting themselves in further danger to prevent you from doing something, it's a risk they are taking, having it focus buffs or objectives would just take counterplay away.

Especially if you can pick smite that doesn't work on champions. Problem solved.

That would be stupid to have. Cause what if somone wanted to smite a adc next to baron that was on 20 health instead he would smite baron. (<just a example)

Traxinator8 votes

Actually, baron would attack that adc that is running away from you, and then you get the kill. >:D

WildJester2 votes

Not if baron wasnt focusing the adc

Virgin Ray1 votes

Well I mean doesn't baron focus the closest champion, friend or foe?

WildJester1 votes

They focus the one who started fighting him but depending if that players move he can switch targets. He also has attacks that or aoe and can hit more then 1 target but you can dodge.

Traxinator1 votes

Baron doesn't focus the person that attacked him, I've done the trick of attacking baron to finish off a kill before. :)

If you're in the Baron pit with an ADC on 20 HP, they're going to get hit by an AOE of some sort. Or you know, a Sona auto, since they're on 20 god damn HP.

You can dodge baron AOE

You have my upvote. Easy fix that is pretty gamechanging.

I'd extend it to all monsters, because the same thing could also happen at buffs or even crab in some situations.

Although there seems to be a contingent here that thinks that standing on something is an awesome skill that should be rewarded. I don't really understand the logic behind that, if any.

If you had a skirmishers, for example, and the enemy jungler tried to counterjungle you while you were doing the wraith camp, for example, smiting wraiths would give you no advantage but smiting their jungler could turn it around and potentially get a kill.

Sona Ping2 votes

Where's the logic in changing things that work appropriately for the sake of some small contingent whose problems stem from not be able to use a mouse appropriately?

Mecha MaIphite3 votes

This is why I take ranger's on most junglers, even if my clear speed is already good enough.

No.

Obstruction is legitimate counter play, this board clearly has a massive problem with anything which requires mechanical skill.

Trias0005 votes

Abusing game weaknesses is a legitimate counterplay? Maybe I should spam ctrl+2 on Lissandra just to make my lane opponent go crazy. It's just as "legitimate counterplay".

Standing in place takes mechanical skill?

Dear lord the problems people come up with on these forums.

The only reason why smite does not lock onto Baron or Drag is because if it did there would be no skill in smiting them when trying to steal, or avoiding the enemy team to steal. So if it did lock onto Baron or Drag it would make the game to easy in a sense.

Paletongue1 votes

I don't think the OP wants smite to lock on to baron, just that if two targets are standing so close to each other that smite could target either, it would prefer baron

It wouldn't 'lock on', but simply prioritize. So if you had your mouse over Baron or Dragon and somebody dashed over it to block you, you would still smite Baron or Dragon rather than the champion and lose it.

Actually this is a fundamental rule of LoL. Standing on /in front of thigns and making it hard to target. This is why all tanks are larger forms (some even getting larger as they get tankier) and dps have smaller forms (ie teemo)

lDontLiftIcarry2 votes

Its an old mechanic started by cho and should be removed from the game. Alistar is a fine example of how tanks should be in size.

MarhsallLee673 votes

Still salty over Ziggs's Q?

Bethor Kookalian2 votes

Cho doing this for normal abilities is fine, because that's actually a generic balance system that's SUPER common in the game. Smite, otoh, I think this is a fair change.

Prospekts1 votes

It's supposed to make it harder to hit skill shots past tanks so that you have to flank or position obscurely to hit them.

DrathTurtle3141 votes

Amumu ? I'm sure there are exceptions to every rule, but amumu is tiny and needs to build enough defence to follow bandage toss into a fight and sit on a carry with despair on...

Bethor Kookalian2 votes

Except smite is a new case that traditionally did not work that way and on base, purple and grey smites, still doesn't. Only red and blue smites suffer this problem, and the question is: should they? Personally, I don't think they should.

The Bearded Bard2 votes

Yes please. With blue and red too. Was going for a steal in their jungle, planned to just nab blue and be out, but it was hecarim so he was inside the blue and I ended up smiting him.

Transgressor2 votes

Remove a mechanic that's core to the game? Why? Because you can't smite properly, or for the extremely slim chance someone runs through baron?

Or is it because you got outplayed by a really inteligent player?

Dunkrius2g2 votes

If only there was something where it can hit monsters only...similar to Target Champions only.

originary911 votes

It's a risk you take when you take a smite that can hit champions. Rangers doesn't have that risk because it's an objective/farming focused smite.

IMKR1 votes

why not just ask riot to make you autosmite on objectives for you? .....................................

Prospekts1 votes

To add on to this I think making the baron and towers only clickable at the base would solve many problems of not being able to target champions or baron with smite.

Catastrop1 votes

I don't jungle so feel free to disregard, but this might counter-productive. I mean the fact that players can be Smited opens up counter play if you want to steal Baron.

Laughing Fish1 votes

Nothing? What about when you are Cho'Gath, but you accidentally feast on a minion instead of the ADC with with 200 Heath, and then the ADC manages to kill you.
