Help the silver pleb!!

Hello, needing some legit advice. Some small background, last season I started playing league. I started about June/July and i placed silver 5, i climbed to silver 1 by the end of pre-season.

Then season 5 i placed silver 2 so i wasnt too upset given how hard other ppl got hit with the "small" reset. I ended up droping from s2 to s5 in 1 night.. a huge tilt. I think it started when i Duo Q'd with a good friend who was bronze 1 at the time. After 3 losses with him in a row I realized i was getting less points when i finally won vs when i loss.

Currently i get 11-14 points a win and i lose 18-25 (usually 22) Going 3-2 is a loss of LP. I don't want to drop to bronze, and so i have been avoiding ranked games almost entirely.

I really want to play ranked again but fear dropping even lower. I know Im no diamond lvl player other wise I wouldnt have gotten into the hole im in, and even if i did i could easily climb out. But for the average silver player who was almost gold.. this is a real challenge.

Any real advice is great... I've invested a lot of time and money in this account and i feel like i need to finish lvling up my smurf just to get a fair chance at ranked points.

Thanks for reading. =]

It's purely determined by your win/loss ratio, so grinding through it is the only way to climb and balance it out so that you don't lose more points than you obtain from winning.

Last season, I hit level 30 and jumped straight into ranked, placing into Silver 4. I dropped down to Bronze 2 after getting my butt handed to me and had a nice, solid win rate of 34%. Needless to say, I lost more than I won.

My honest advice as a fellow silver player is to pick somebody you like, and play them. Over, and over, and over, and over, until you know them inside and out before taking them ranked.

What's often forgotten is how important it is to lose games. Yes, important. As in, necessary. I'll give you an example.

I just started playing Pantheon a little over a month ago. I took him top lane, and dominated my normal matches time and time again. My KDAs were always solid, and I felt like the champion simply clicked with my playstyle. But taking him straight into ranked caused me a bias; I had ONLY been playing Pantheon while super fed. I ONLY knew how to make him work when I was up in farm and kills. When I got behind the enemy laner, I fed like hell.

Carrying is nice. But what's even MORE important than knowing how to get ahead with a champion is knowing how to handle your champion even when you're behind. That is one of the key faults with people in our elo, and lower, and even higher. Getting behind happens sometimes, and when you are behind, the dynamic of your game changes drastically.

It's incredibly important to be able to know how to use your champion when you're fed, even, and behind. They're all incredibly different experiences, and honestly, I feel like when you're behind, when you're losing and any mistake can cost you your life, that's when you begin to learn best how to play the champion.

Thanks for the advice, I'm still wondering tho.. how far am i going to drop before i start getting even in points. For example. Im 0LP @ silver 5 now.. if i keep grinding going 3-2 losing ranks.. @what rank do I start getting points for going 3-2... If im Bronze 5... will i still lose points 3-2?

Basically when you hit 50% win ratio, you should be earning and losing the same number of points. So at the end of the ranked game, those two numbers below the IP bar should match. If the second is higher, then you'll lose a few more than you earn. But at this level, games are determined by who knows the champions better. It's not necessarily about which champion is stronger.

First of all, let me forward by saying that you will find no added benefit from playilng on a smurf in ranked at level 30. You might luck out and get placed decently high and maybe even get a good winning streak, but, in the long run, playing at what is considered a lower ELO will only hurt you. There is a very common misconception that it's a good move to give up on your primary account and you'll fly past it on a smurf, and, while there certainly is some possibility of this, you are more likely to climb up on your first account if you do a couple of things.

First of all, let me look at your acc on lolking.

55 wins to 64 losses. 46% win rate. As a general rule, you need to be above 50% to increase your ELO Many challenger level accounts succeed by maintaining a 55% winrate.

Looking at your stats, of those 64 losses, a staggering 26 of 64 losses are on chamions you are either 0 and 1 on or 0 and 2. The thing to take away from this isn't, "you're Silver 5 because you're losing," but rather, "you're silver 5 because you are playing a wide variety of champions in a whimsical manner and just picking what you feel might work but in reality by spreading your champion pool thin you are hurting yourself."

For instance, you are 0 and 1 with Katarina with a 0/7/4 kda. You picked Kat because you think she's strong, but you probably went into the game with little to no Kat exp.

On the flip side, your LeBlanc has almost a 10/5/6 kda in over 12 games (which is still admittedly a small sample size). You clearly know your way around that champion.

The stat breakdowns are mostly to explain what I'm going to say next:

-You need to select a relatively small pool of champions that you have a lot of experience on and try to exclusively play those champions

typically, I recommend 15 champions, 3 per role.

Looking at your stats, a basic recommendation would be to only ever play:

Top: Nasus, Shen, PICKONE

Jungle: Jarvan, Reksai, Eve (assuming you are 3-0 in the jungle and not mid) [side note, you Lee is obviously under performing wherever you play him]

Mid: Leblanc, Talon, PICKONE

ADC: You don't really have many ADC games, and that's okay, it's easily my least played role too, but you should focus on being able to play one champion. Traditionally I recommend Caitlyn because she's super safe and, while you may not carry hard, you become less likely to feed and do poorly on. Plus she's off meta at the moment, and you dont have to worry about her being picked by the enemy usually.

Support: Blitz, Leona, Morgana. I know I picked a couple of champions you have quesionable winrates on, but you have to remember that we are dealing with relatively small sample sizes here. These are what I consider to be playmaking supports. Annie is unfortunately a bit odd in how she effects a game and many inexperienced supports actually end up flash Tibbering to their team's loss.

This is all speculation and should not be taken as law, but the important thing is to PHYSICALLY WRITE DOWN ON A STICKY NOTE OR SOMETHING your list of chamions that you will play and NEVER STRAY FROM THAT. It helps a butt-ton while climbing, because the number one rule in ranked is to

BE CONSISTENT

the second rule is to not play when you are on tilt and go play an ARAM or clean your dirty bedroom.

Great advice, although some of my 0-1 0-2 champs may seem to be a less than common pick .. they are generally champs i play in normals.. But overall i agree.. my winrate is shit right now.. i lost 11 games in a row when i dropped from s2 to s5. My normals winrate is above 50% and it was 40 wins over losses before. Obviously normals isn't a very convincing argument but at the very least I was winning.. As for lee sin, I love the champ i do good with the champ.. but as a general statement about low elo/mmr.. ppl dont know how to obtain a lead.. i could have all my lanes fed up 10-1 and we can still lose. This might be partially my fault though as I dont always know what to do when ahead with him. But again thanks for the advice.. For the most part I followed your advice as my own for awhile. I Should probably grind again and just take the hit.
