Why the fuck are supports suddenly rushing homeguards?

I'm seeing this shit in every single match suddenly, what the fuck happened?

Like, I was just harassed by my entire team because I questioned why supports were rushing homeguards suddenly, like it was some obvious thing. Did some asshole rush it in LCS and now everybody is copying?

Makes them lose less EXP since they get to lane faster, and supports are the most experience starved class. Also reduces the amount of time they are away from their ADC. Reduces their weakness and increases their strength. It's a strong early buy.

Homeguards are the most fun enchant, people were probably wondering why you weren't fun

If they were just doing it for fun, I would not care. But I have seen this multiple times in multiple games within a couple days and they act as if it is REALLY good and a serious item pick.

So that leads me to believe it started SOMEWHERE.

I must be a bad player because I have never understood why people buy Homeguards at all.

Yes, I see how it's a good purchase when you need to defend your base, and I see how it's a good purchase when you are someone with teleport (especially Hecarim or Rengar or someone like that), but I don't understand why people buy it early in the game as other champions. Is getting back to lane a little faster really worth 475 instant gold, considering how many instant stats (AD, AP, health, armour, regen, etc.) you could buy for that gold?

Just about everyone gets homeguard. It's the most useful enchant: near instantaneous HP/MP regeneration and a speed steroid that gets one back into the fight quicker. I used to be a fan of alacrity enchant until I realized it takes that much longer to regenerate extended mana pools and returning to the front lines. A few seconds late often means the difference between a loss and a win; many will agree with that.

Captain enchant is useful if one's a tank on the front line, but since most champions already have a dash/blink/speed steroid anyway there's no point in getting it outside of ARAM or TTL.

Distortion Enchant is useful if running a combination of summoner 4summoner 6summoner 12 but I've never seen anybody take it except for me and some extremely fed enemy Xerath back in S4.

Furor Enchant used to be to go for Eve and some bruisers, but since the % speed nerfs I don't really see anybody taking it neither.

Alacrity Enchant falls into the same category as furor. Made less useful after movement speed stacking nerfs and so many other items now having %/flat movement speed modifiers.

A lot of supports build item 3069 that already has 20+ms speed plus the 40% active. There's really no point in any of them getting a boot enchant other than Homeguard.

Sure, but I'm seeing supports rushing it directly after sightstone, if they get sightstone at all.

I haven't seen this yet. I've seen a rush to tier 2 boots after sightstone for some reason but not homeguards.

Personally I only get homeguards if the base is threatened or I have nothing else to purchase.

Then they're just being dumb and wasting gold on something when they don't need it. Probably because walking to lane is "boring".

it's probably because it's an item that has a tangible impact on the pace of the game, and since it's an item that directly affects gameplay, not just a stat boost, the earlier they're bought the more times the speedboost is used and the more efficient the purchase becomes.

I only buy homeguards if I need to defend my base, lol.

For most of the champions I play I go alacrity or furor. Captain if I'm playing a hard initiate tank. Distortion occasionally.

distortion was fun in urf mode...made travel spells have like 15 second cooldowns XD

I haven't seen this happen at all. I buy homeguards if my base is pressured or I have the extra money for it.
