Can we do one thing for Evelynn to allow her to be an assassin again?

Poptart Evelynn··54 votes·4,122 views

(If you want to skip their is a TL:TR)

The issue with Evelynn will come back after you buff her. I would really like to put out my opinion of the matter and how I really feel about this because I really enjoy Evelynn but she keeps getting booty raped over and over and over and over. Plz no more. Address the real issue. (I don't want to spoil the secret but Eve level 2 gank is going to make people cry irl, remember that first Tf jungle pick ever and the level 2 cheese gank? Yea imagine that but works on any lane and the opponent has no idea)

Cause? Invisibility from level 1. Proposed fix? Put the stealth passive on her ult scaling down the size radius per rank other players can see her and give her something else to work with for ganks early game.

Do you see how many issues this fixes? You can actually say to yourself. "Evelynn is about to hit 6 I'm going to need to invest in some pink wards". Wow and you will have gold to do so by that point in the game.

I love Evelynn and I'm an Evelynn player telling you to nerf/buff her properly. I know that when she receives some buffs soon she is just going to be a pain in the ass for everyone again. She needs to have her early game hit where the issue is. It's not the damage. It's the utility of her invis. It's not fun for the enemy.

Evelynn is fun when you can be an assassin. Evelynn is fun when you can run around doing damage. When you go tank route on Evelynn you just feel off. The feel/fantasy behind Evelynn is an invisible assassin that is dancing in the shadows waiting just behind her enemies for the right moment to strike. I don't want to build frozen heart on an assassin. Like what if you were Kat and everybody told you that you could only build warmogs/sunfire cape to be effective.(A "What If?" example, not for real.) Like wtf is that?

TL:TR, Eve is just going to be an issue again and my proposed fix is to shift her stealth passive to her ultimate as a scaling passive. Offers more options for her opponents and allows you to buff her early game to allow her to become balanced as an assassin.\

Edit 1 - Now what I mean by this is just in general. Something needs to be done about her powerful stealth that is removing her ability to be allowed to do damage. The general direction of Eve currently is bruiser tank. That doesn't even fit the fantasy. I don't mean this as the only solution possible. I'm sure there is plenty of ways for Evelynn to obtain a slight tweak to her kit. This thread is just to bring these things out in the open. I'm absolutely hating the direction of where Eve is headed. It's not Evelynn.

That actually sounds like a good idea moving power from her passive to her actual kit.

TBH, her problem isn't as much her lack of counterplay or frustration of pink ward buying to negate her, it's more that she has so low health in the jungle before she even STARTS her second buff that if I see an eve on the other team as the jungler, I'm starting the topside buff because I know she will die if she doesn't get botlane leash, and then kill her at her second buff as she is killing it.

If you have watched any Esports at all you may remember eve jungle being picked and being almost killed at her second buff because of how the other jungler knew that she was going to be low since she wasn't going to get botlane leash (botlane took gromp so she started topside so botlane would have "advantage"). I don't remember who picked the eve, but I'm pretty sure they lost, and mostly because she could barely keep up throughout the game even with the pre-nerf trailblazer.

If you want proof, I'm pretty sure it was at IEM San Jose when Lyon Gaming played vs UOL. Kikis (UOL jungler) took kayle as jungler and went botside buff figuring eve would start topside so that botlane could take gromp, which is what happened, and he scared the eve off her buff and took it, burning her flash. I saw this game personally and I went as vi vs an eve and I took every single buff from her except for a red I missed out on. I killed her on her blue buff twice, and on her red once.

I'm talking about her future issue when she gets buffed and no longer has a jungle clear issue.

That is bullshit. I start at red buff every time, don't even need help, and don't die at blue buff. Red -> Wolves ->Blue - Riftscuttler -> Birds. Then i buy jungle item and flask, and have enough sustain for the entire game.

People should stop this stupid rework attempts. Evelynns kit is perfect. Her early game is maybe a bit too weak, but her mid and late game is very strong, if you build the right items. People should learn how powerful her Q is, if you build 700 AP and 40% CDR. It is the same DPS that Karthus and Cassiopeia have. Her E is physical now, but it has still an 100% AP ratio. It doesn't matter that much, because it does still good damage and the Q is extremly powerful. I think Riot wants Evelynn to make less Burst and more DPS. And that is a good way to balance a stealth champion. And if Evelynns E apply on hit effects next patch, she will get some more burst again, but only if she builds DPS Items like Nashors Tooth or Botrk. Her Early Game will still be difficult, but she will get a better reward, if she gets to the mid/late-game. No reason to complain.

If you want proof, I'm pretty sure it was at IEM San Jose when Lyon Gaming played vs UOL.

Pros can act like noobs, so it doesn't matter. Start red buff, muck around blue buff and it's fine.

Just going with the 1st paragraph here. In my mind, Eve's difficulty clearing the jungle and the relative lack of counterplay that exists against champs that use stealth to gank are linked together. Because it is so difficult to actually properly guard against Eve's ganks, it is difficult to actually buff Eve's clear to being decent or average without her just becoming a monster that would end up just getting nerfed.

Bears Dont Care5 votes

Her E needs to be magic instead of physical since it create really awkward design. AP favors burst damage, so you'd build it so her E hits stronger, but it needs armor pen such as last whisper and brutalizer which favor sustained damage output. So its...bad.

kitcat3003 votes

It used to be magic, but getting bursted with DFG and ravage in half a second from an enemy that wasn't there a second ago was considered toxic. (same principle with Rengars changes)

the thing is, eve has no instant gap closers like most all other assassins. so I don't see how it's a problem when eve can burst you from 100 to 0 but lb can do the same thing from a mile away and it's not considered toxic. (before you start, I am aware tha ppl have complained about lb in the past)

Positioning is an extremely powerful tool. Combine positioning/instagib together and you have a monster.

Even as a non-Eve player, I really like this idea. I think she would be allowed to actually assassinate once again if her passive stealth gets moved to the Ultimate, and the stealth could be even stronger lategame (from the reduced radius per rank) because of it.

Other games have fully invisible champions from level 1 and they're balanced.

Do not let Riot get away with being incapable of balancing something as simple as invisibility.

as long as her Q/E are not magic damage. AS long as her Q/E have 25%+ damage nerfs Eve will never be viable. never 1v1 anyone. Never be useful. I accepted this as a tank eve player from s1. Yeah you say you hate it? But I played AP tank eve with rylias like every game. her Q/E are shit and riot hates stealth champs that are viable because they threaten their LCS bigplays ZED/fizz/syndra/lucian/thresh/nami/corki/gnar

all you're saying is "lets gut eve some more, that'll help her!" you know nothing of evelynn or what makes her fun. You actually consider removing stealth from one of the SQUISHEST CHAMPIONS in the entire game. What the actual fuck are you thinking? Lets be honest.

Imagine shaco without a jump on his Q.(no ground flash just a shitty old 3 second stealth) thats the amount of gutting you're doing to this champion

I think another option would be changeing the pasive to have the visionrange scale with lvls and give wards the same vision vs eve as champs have. This should free enough power to buff eve in a way that actually makes her viable as a laner again.

Evelynn Is pretty ok right now, the problem I find is that she has no sustain. I think adding hp on hit against monsters for her q would fix this a lot.

She doesn't have mana problems and her stealth lets her gank early because without it, she would be pretty useless pre-6 as she has no engage.

I don't find Evelynn ok in any sort of way currently. The work around Evelynn players have found is extremely anti-fun for the opponent. This "why jungle" strategy is funny but the amount of rage must be hilarious. Only a few of us have figured it out but once it's popular oh my... The qq will be here and this next buff is going to make that strategy work so well.

u mean heavy taxing on every gank? Junglers already do that. Thank riot for s5 changes. No jungle wants to clear a camp worth 1/3 of the exp half a wave of lane minions gives.

I've played eve both in her assassin and her bruiser/tank state, and I have to say this is a wonderful suggestion. Alot of the problem with Eve is her immediate and unknown presence at level one, making her difficult to track let alone invest against (such as with pinkwards), and even the recent map vision buffs provide no solace against near perma-stealth.

Moving her stealth to her ult as a scaling passive would be a significant step forward to making her healthy for the game again (as other assassins, like talon, don't get their stealth 'till 6, as well as champions like twitch and khazix all unlock their stealth at 6) which gives players time to invest in the means to counter those said champions and not be totally blindsided by the invisible lvl 2 red buff gank straight up the lane. While I enjoy playing Evelynn as an assassin/bruiser its thematically difficult, and itemization is difficult as well, so optimizing counterplay to her kit will allow her to focus more on being a healthy addition to the league roster.

Great suggestion. I hope we get a red post on this.

I like the proposal however you have the problem of mana as her passive gave her massive mana regen when in stealth. If this were changed to when out of combat for X seconds then it could work. Also her Stealth is directly tied to her gank potential. As she is one of the very few junglers who can pull off a lane gank with exceptional ease which I feel needs to stay a part of her identity as the perfect hunter.

That said I think the stealth should still be available at level 1 with the detection range increased. That way good evenly players can still scout around and place deep wards where great ones will still be able to pull off level 2 or 3 lane ganks. To me it seems fair, and I hated Evelyn after the vision change. Though even still I think she needs to make a return to the jungle to shake things up a bit and cull a lot of the dominance of the current jungle kings.

Knight Devout1 votes

^ exactly the issue. When I'm level 2, I can't afford pinks. Or rather , I can afford pinks, but I can't afford Eve to remove them. Since they decided to make pinks visible, Eve had to go from the scene of viable assassins. Even when she fails to take kills, but clears wards, she puts the enemy 100 g behind.

Now, imagine a champ whose passive is "everytime this jungler gets in your lane, you lose 100g, or you die". That what Eve was when she was viable.

As far as her jungle ability, giving her a shield on Q that would only proc when hitting jungle monsters might be a good change for her.

Or consider her weak early game due to taking lots of damage enough of a reason to buff her post-6. The jungle was in part changed to limit snowballing via frequent ganks early in the game, now Riot should be buffing champions that had previously been nerfed for being too good at that like Evelynn.

Stealth should only be moved back to later levels if her early game is going to be buffed very significantly.

Her damage is very good already if you build damage, what she needs is a defense that scales better than what her R provides currently.

No, the stealth defines Evelynn. And Evelynn does great damage, if you build damage. If you build Tank you do no damage of course.

The general direction of Eve currently is bruiser tank.

No, Riot has nerfed her base damage and has buffed her scalings. Bruiser Evelynn is very weak in comparison to Assassin Evelynn.

Eve's big problem is that she forces the enemy team to play differently. Don't want to get ganked by Eve? Spend your early levels hugging the turret and buy pink wards.

The problem with this is that it leads to missed CS, and more money spent on items which do not increase your champion's power level, causing your enemies to outscale you (something that used to be called the "Eve Tax")

The easiest way to balance Eve would be to make her visible to regular wards. Pink wards retain their role as countervision items, nobody has to pay an Eve tax, or get crushed by her traveling down conventional jungle paths, because those should be regular warded anyway.

The point of stealth is to go through normal wards and be "invisible". My proposed idea fixes most of your complaints. You don't have to do anything until the jungler is level 6. Simply picking Evelynn gives all your lanes an advantage atm and that is an issue that prevents her from being allowed to do damage.

Stealth is the problem though. It's the reason she forces a change in the playstyle of the entire enemy team. IMO perma-stealth should probably just be removed from the game, but barring that, letting regular wards see her would work.

You could apply this sentence to anything you dislike about League.

"Champions with Stuns/Anti-stuns force a change in the play style of the entire enemy team." See.

A kit with an extremely high utility built in has it's damage gated. Perma-stealth is one of the highest utilities you can throw in a kit. Nerf/buffing this in the right directions is what allows certain things to be okay. The point in transitioning Perma-stealth to level 6 is to allow her kit to have more damage. As is atm she isn't allowed to do damage early game. She has to do damage to clear better though so when she gets some changes the gate of her power will be overflowing.

I'm trying to give ideas on how to change a few simple things to not create more issues. I love Evelynn but I'm tired of seeing her get rekt by the nerf bat 24/7.

But you are generally supposed to buy wards and not push your lane. Eve doesn't make you play differently, she makes you play correctly if she were properly balanced and well played as she punishes early aggression.

I don't like the idea of a passive shield. I want her to be a risky pick and to have the ability to scale into power if she overcomes her risk/weakness. If she doesn't have stealth till level 6 she would be allowed to have actual damage early game to clear better.

Stealth is Evelynns unique strenght. If you want to have a champion, that has no stealth in the early game, but other strengths, PLAY ANOTHER CHAMPION, but don't turn Evelynn into a boring standard champion.

{quoted} Her remake kept her Fighter/Tank state (sort of) via the new Ult shield which is basically just a brain-dead version of her old Ult heal. The only time she has ever been a functional Assassin was right after her remake when Deathfire Eve caught on.

DFG is overrated as hell. Evelynn doesn't need it. If you build her as an Assassin she has the ability to kill isolated people she finds in her passive. That is not possible for Bruiser Evelynn. Bruiser Evelynn has the ability to initiate teamfights, but it is just not worth it 75% of the time imo.

Eve's issue right now is that Riot has no idea what they want her to be. Her crippling base damage nerfs preclude a heavily defensive build and her schizophrenic damage types prevent her from building penetration effectively, thus ruining any real Assassin build. That leaves her with a sorta-Bruisery build as her only option.

No, Riot has made clear, that they don't want Evelynn to be a Tank. They nerfed the Q base damage and buffed the Q scaling. that means they want Evelynn to be an squishy damage dealer. They also changed E and R and made DFG a bad item for Evelynn. That means they want Evelynn to be more an DPS Assassin, and less of an Burst Assassin. Riot wants Evelynn to be an DPS Assasin like Master Yi, and that is actually the best way to build Evelynn. The DFG-Build is weak, the tanky build is weak, but Nashors Tooth + Rabadons works beautifully. And now they are buffing on hit effect items for her. But will people ever find out?

Linna Excel1 votes

I don't think this'll work because if she's jungling, she needs to be able to make an early impact given her passive. Her invisibility loses value as the game goes on and people on the other side start grouping as a team.

Rebonack1 votes

For what it's worth, Eve's ideal build was always Fighter/Tank even before her remake.

Originally straight tank with sunfire stacking was (hilariously) one of the most effective ways to build her. Sunfire(s), mercs, and Force of Nature. Once her Ult gained the ability to be cast like a normal ability rather than requiring a kill/assist to trigger it and her E lost its facing requirement to shred defense, she gained a bunch of guaranteed damage and Trinity/Tanky was pretty much THE go-to build. Tanky was best because it took full advantage of her massive (650 HP) Ult heal and her low cooldown targeted two second stun that could nail two champions.

Her remake kept her Fighter/Tank state (sort of) via the new Ult shield which is basically just a brain-dead version of her old Ult heal. The only time she has ever been a functional Assassin was right after her remake when Deathfire Eve caught on.

Making Eve an Assassin (a real Assassin) is an awful idea.

A very awful idea. Of all the awful ideas, it's one of the worst.

Why?

Because burst out of stealth is awful to play against regardless of whether a champion is overtuned or not (See: Knifecat and Deathfire Eve). Regardless of what Riot does with Eve, they MUST keep her sustained-damage focused. Getting her a new Ult would be a good starting place.

Rebonack1 votes

DFG is overrated as hell. Evelynn doesn't need it.

I get the impression you didn't actually grasp the point I was making, so I'll restate.

DFG was amazing on Eve. DFG is now very gimpy on Eve and generally a poor investment.

If you build her as an Assassin she has the ability to kill isolated people she finds in her passive.

Assuming your target knows what Magic Resist does, no. You won't be out-dueling anyone.

The DFG-Build is weak, the tanky build is weak, but Nashors Tooth + Rabadons works beautifully. And now they are buffing on hit effect items for her. But will people ever find out?

Again, assuming your target knows what Magic Resist does, this will fall flat. Eve can't itemize for penetration effectively because she deals mixed damage. And that's a death-sentence for any would-be assassin since Void/Whisper are the most flagrantly broken sources of damage amplification in the game If all of Eve's damage were swapped over to physical she might be able to cut it as a Fighter/Assassin akin to Yi or Fiora. Might.

Yes, DFG was good and is bad now. But Rabadons was good too and is still good. It doesn't hurt to buy a Rabadons instead of DFG. DFGs CD is long, and the Rabadons passive increases the Q and E damage by ~20% without any CD. Evelynn has endless DPS, she does not need a short combo with DFG or Ignite to kill something.

Assuming your target knows what Magic Resist does, no. You won't be out-dueling anyone.

An Adc that buys MR will not have the damage to fight Evelynn most of the time. It depends on snowballing of course. If the enemy Adc is 15-5 and Eve is 5-15, she will loose of course, but if both are 5-5 Evelynn will win.

AP Evelynn does 2/3 magic damage. So Sorcerer shoes and an Abysall are still worth. I don't think Void Staff is worth, because Abysall has MR. But Evelynn want to fight the squishys and not the tanks anyway.

Because AP Evelynn does 1/3 physical damage, it is not that bad if the enemys buy MR. GA is the best defensive item against Evelynn, because the team can come to help after Evelynn has killed the target the first time.

Again, assuming your target knows what Magic Resist does, this will fall flat. Eve can't itemize for penetration effectively because she deals mixed damage.

Evelynn has tons of DPS, as long as she has more DPS as her target, she can fight and kill it. Other assassins need a spell combo to kill a target. If the target buys the resistance and the assassin can't buy penetration, that could be the death sentence for the combo and for assassination attempts. But Evelynn has endless DPS, so she doesn't need a combo, and as long as she does more DPS than her target she can fight and kill it. I buy Sorcerers and Abysall, and that is enough. In Dominion I buy CDR-Boots and it is still enough.

And that's a death-sentence for any would-be assassin since Void/Whisper are the most flagrantly broken sources of damage amplification in the game

Abysall is better for damage output than Void if the target has less than 57 MR. And for a duel of two meele mages Abysall is better than Void until 150 MR (The Voidstaffs purchasers MR gets lowered to 130 MR from 150 and the Abysalls purchasers MR gets penetrated to 130 from 200).

What is the ideal way to multiplicate Eves damage?

  • Q is spammable - > 40% CDR is effective -> item 3724 item 3115
  • Q has a very high AP scaling -> flat AP is effective -> item 3089 item 3157
  • Q doesn't cancel AAs and E provides an AS Buff -> on hit effects are effective -> item 3115
  • Evelynn does 2/3 magic damage and fights squshys -> some rather flat Magic penetration is good, but not at the cost of other stats -> item 3020 item 3001
  • Evelynn puts herself in danger and R provides a shield -> resistances are effective -> item 3157 item 3001
