What if Top Lane Turrets Were Placed Closer to Each Other?

Top lane, like bot lane, is a wide curve, but, unlike top lane, bot lane is usually occupied by 4 champions, two from each team. Meanwhile, top is, in fact, an island, but it's become a lane in which ranged champions reign. It is their range and the safe distance they are allowed to use to their advantage that might be the cause of this.

A melee champion can be poked down trying to farm while a ranged champion was so much effective range against a melee champion during laning that they can use the expansive terrain to their advantage.

But, if the top turrets were placed closer together, it could effectively reduce that open field and make it so a ranged champion is forced into less comfortable and close quarters with that melee top they hoped to try and poke down.

If the ranged champion chose too farm under their turret then the melee champion could bring pressure onto the lane. If the ranged champion tried poking the melee down from a disstance, the melee champion would have less space in which to close the gap or to retreat back too safety.

That would be too awkward, since ganks in top lane would be harder to pull off, and strategy would be halved in terms of disengaging or kiting

Uhm no, then melee's would stand no chance as ranged champions could even more easily escape ganks and chases to the safety of their turret.

That would mean Mages have more incentive to go top lane. Which would be even safer for them because they can only be ganked from one side.

This literally is in favor of ranged champions not melee. Melee champions need a large lane so they have room to fight. If they tried fighting the ranged champion they could easily kite to their tower and the melee would probably take tower shots.
